ARCHIVED Controlling Cc In My Kitchen
dbmamaz replied to dbmamaz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I remembered the other reason I stopped the gluten-free baking . .. after several mediocre attempts, my husband spoke somewhat sternly to me and said, you arent doing this baking for me, are you, because I am NOT going to go gluten-free. I explained that no, I was just trying to come up w a way I could make treats the whole family would like and I could... -
ARCHIVED Controlling Cc In My Kitchen
dbmamaz replied to dbmamaz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I used that at first, and loved it, but once i saw how many foods I reacted to, i decided to start with foods which were safe on both tests, and not ASSUME i could eat any food which WASNT on the tests. Quinioa was on neither test, but is something I will try fairly soon. I think I might try a probiotic before that, and i'm wanting to try another fruit... -
ARCHIVED Controlling Cc In My Kitchen
dbmamaz replied to dbmamaz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Its not that i can eat less and less foods - i just started by dropping wheat and diary (because I was "dx'd" as "allergic" in infancy (42 years ago) by food challenge. Then I did some testing (allergist and A.L.C.A.T) and reacted to SO many foods, that I decided to start by eating ONLY the foods on my safe list and adding things slowly. I always reacted... -
ARCHIVED Why Confirm With Biopsy
dbmamaz replied to bailey4's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Many people on this list say it is important to get dx'd for those reasons . . .but many other people say there is a high chance of false negatives, too. Its really got to be your decision - you have to decide how bad you feel on gluten and how good you feel off gluten, and if its worth it to YOU to feel this bad for 3 months just to get a piece of paper... -
ARCHIVED Do Allergies Mean It Can't Be Celiacs?
dbmamaz replied to 3groovygirls's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Barley has gluten and isnt wheat. Dont they make barley baby cereal? I thought they used to. You can also cook it really well and try feeding it to her I tested positive for allergy to wheat, barley, malt and yeast (among many others) and sensitive (on the A.L.C.A.T) to gluten. I stopped hanging out here for a while, but as others pointed out, i still... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Almost 2 Days Now
dbmamaz replied to Aleshia's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
From what I've read it seems like neuropathy (tingling) caused by celiac is often one of the last symptoms to go away, and can take years - tho usually they talk about it in extremeties, not in the head. When I quit gluten and diary (at the same time) my withdrawal symptoms were to feel kinda dizzy for over a week. Not quite dizzy, but like why you have... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free For A Week
dbmamaz replied to Melissa312's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Have you noticed any change in symptoms at all? For me, the tapioca flour in most gluten-free products acted just as bad as gluten on my stomach. Some people also need to cut out soy. My stomach issues improved in a few days. Did you go to a doctor at all for this? Get checked for parasites, perhaps? -
ARCHIVED Controlling Cc In My Kitchen

I tried buckwheat breakfast cereal before I went on this major elimination diet, and I want to try buckwheat again soon, but the cereal did not appeal to me. I have made corn muffins - i'm also off eggs, of course, but I make them with corn meal, corn starch, potato starch flour and potato starch, flax seed/water, orange juice, baking powder, darifree soured... -
ARCHIVED Food Brands With gluten-free Items Clearly Listed On Their Websites
dbmamaz replied to maddycat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wellshire Farm has a specail chart they've created to put on their foods Open Original Shared Link It clearly identifies gluten free, soy free and dairy free, as well as how much protien, right on the label. They also have an allergen-safe product database search: Open Original Shared Link I believe they are sold at Whole Foods, my local upscale grocery... -
ARCHIVED Controlling Cc In My Kitchen
dbmamaz replied to dbmamaz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I really appreciate all the ideas. I'll keep turning them over in my mind and figure out what will work best for me. So far, the family has NOT liked the gluten-free pasta, but we never tried tinkydada (or wahtever it is) before i went off rice. I LOVE the glutino, but last time i put it in soup, my daughter complained about the texture. Part of the problem... -
ARCHIVED Controlling Cc In My Kitchen
dbmamaz replied to dbmamaz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I love that idea lol! Except hubby hates to walk outside due to severe sensitivity to biting insects (he seriouslly scratches himself raw in his sleep and takes weeks to heal) as well as asthma set off by environmental allergies. I cant even open the windows. Luckily i cant eat PB any more, and everyone knows to leave my sunbutter alone, and i dont... -
ARCHIVED Controlling Cc In My Kitchen
dbmamaz replied to dbmamaz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks, Kimmy. There are lots of different people who's minds work lots of different ways, and being clean was never a priority in the home i grew up in, or my own. Sometimes its hard to realize just how different people can be, and that its all good . . . except for cc lol -
ARCHIVED Controlling Cc In My Kitchen
dbmamaz replied to dbmamaz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've heard of other people doing it the other way, having a 'gluten station' in the house where they can make sandwhiches and stuff. After all, I do all the meal prep for all 5 of us, so I'm the one who needs the big kitchen. I could possibly re-work the breakfast nook . . i'll keep that thought in mind -
ARCHIVED Controlling Cc In My Kitchen
dbmamaz replied to dbmamaz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I guess I dont feel so strongly since i was never dx'd w celiac, just allergy to all gluten-containing grains and sensitivity to gluten. If my son tests sensitive to gluten (in process) i may get pushier about it . . . but hubby has made it clear that he's supportive as long as I dont unilatirally remove bread from his diet THANK YOU, yes -
So, I have every reason to believe I have adrenal fatigue. I'll list some triggers below, so you can skip it if you dont want to read my way-too-long writing. What I found on line, tho, was rather limited. I seem to remember it said to rest a lot and avoid any stimulating supplements (that was what first made me drop my sam-e, and i'm also off caffiene...

I am the only one in my family of 5 who is currently avoiding gluten. I'm actually only eating 25 foods right now - when it was just dairy and gluten, I tried to make more meals the whole family can eat, but I've just given up. So, CC in my kitchen . . . there was one time I made spaghetti and I know I handled the kids pasta with my hands and didnt wash...

Personally, I think its a good excuse to visit your doctor and ask to be screened for whichever health issue runs in the family (so you might want to call a family member to get the scoop before your apt)

ARCHIVED The Best Completely gluten-free Restaurant In Va
dbmamaz replied to Cynth's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
How funny, out in the middle of nowhere there . . . maybe if my other allergies ever clear up, my husband and i will drive 2 hours to go out to eat actually, i just checked out their website, Open Original Shared Link and it doesnt say anything about being gluten free - theres a section of pastas and a section of pastries. You arent telling me all that... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Baby Finger Foods?
dbmamaz replied to KimmyJ's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Rice crunch-ems, and now rice chex (check the box, they are in transition). I fed my kids rice cakes a lot when they were very young. There were babies for many, many years before anyone thought to market finger-food esp for babies. Honestly, i even let them have things like french fries and cheese curls fairly young . . . the folks that make pirate booty... -
Most doctors dont believe in the delayed reaction tests. I used the A.L.C.A.T, but on my own. I hear naturapaths are more in to this kind of thing, but may be harder to find (or labled as a flaky doctor) Have you tried regular allergy testing? Also, if you could get an allergist to 'oversee' diet challenge, and then dx the kids with allergies that way...

ARCHIVED Help! Gluten Free/dairy Free Chicken Parmigiana
dbmamaz replied to marisaerin's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
While vegan gourmet is the best vegan cheese i've seen, I stronly recomend you taste it before cooking with it. Taste it cold and melted. I've ruined otherwise good meals by adding one ingredient that I coulndt stand the taste of. I have liked the soy parmesan for adding some cheesy flavor, but . . . that gooey thing is just hard to replace. There are... -
ARCHIVED Candida Overgrowth
dbmamaz replied to holdthegluten's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
SBOs are soil based organisms, she posted about it elsewhere. Eating unwashed things from the soil is the primary way to get pinworms, which my kids and I have all had before and I dont particularly want again. I figure probiotics are a slightly safer way to get 'good germs' in me. -
ARCHIVED Candida Overgrowth
dbmamaz replied to holdthegluten's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I did a bunch of testing and reacted to almost everything, including Candida on the A.L.C.A.T test and yeast on the allergy test. I was a gourmet cook who loved variety, and now I can only eat 25 foods. I have struggled to reduce my sugar intake, but I cant eliminate it - i have always been a total addict, and now there are SO few foods I can eat at all...
