  1. Hi, hope you don't mind a note. If you are in Richmond, you may want to look up the UVA. Dr. Sheila Crowe is a teaching Gastroenterologist, and supposedly the "expert" for the area. I traveled down to see her....and I admit that I got a LOT more from the dietician I saw there....Sherrei Walker. Something to consider....

  2. While that is what the lawyer implies, that doesnt mean it accureatly explains what happenned. While it may be that a filler wasnt included on an ingredient list, or a 'natural flavor' contained a gluten ingredient which McD's didnt catch, I suspect what really happenned was CC, but the lawyer is accusing McD's of lying about ingredients, because you cant...
  3. Look, from reading this board, it looks like the only foods which can be guarenteed to be 100% gluten-free are those which are grown, transported and processed in facilities which do not handle gluten. I agree that suing companies for CC makes it impossible for them to make any effort to support allergy-free eating. You cannot expect McDonalds to eliminate...
  4. Ok, warning, this is a sensitive subject for me right now First I took the A.L.C.A.T sensitivity test. I chose it because it tests the largest number of foods. Its kinda pricey and totally out of pocket. I reacted to at least a third of the 175 foods they tested me for. So, i'm looking at a huge food challenge test, because they are known for false...
  5. They no longer make baby wheat cereal, since its a high allergy food. I had allergies as a baby, so avoided all allergy foods early on - no milk or wheat until 11 mo (so they could have ice cream and cake lol). Peanuts and eggs are now being recomended to wait until 2, i think. Early foods for me - first rice cereal mixed w breastmilk. Puree whatever...
  6. Ok, it just got worse. All the foods I mentioned before were ones I CANT have (aside from the chicken and lamb). However, those were all 'sensitivities' from the A.L.C.A.T test . . . Today I went to the allergist and had scratch-tests plus interdermal (little shots). When the doctor looked at the results, he said, "well, you're allergic to your world...
  7. Hot peppers!! I took the A.L.C.A.T test and reacted to over a third of the foods they tested me for. I have chosen NOT to do the yeast diet at this point, because the other foods are stressing me out too much already, so I'm still eating sugar. But all in all, the hardest things to give up are the spices! The roast chicken and lamb just arent as good...
  8. I'm kinda struggling with similar questions. I took an AL.C.A.T test (if u leave out the dots, the text gets changed, long storY) which showed tons of food sensitivities for me, and I took the gluten panel which was negative, but i'd already been gluten free for 6 weeks. I'm wondering if I should get the gene test or not, but I want to get some testing...
  9. I'm thinking about all the people who know they're celiac but arent willing to do the diet - might help them, some at least. The bigger problem is that doctors (who so often say, oh, you dont want to go on that diet, its too hard or too expensive) will prescribe a pill and never give any information about the diet. On the other hand, with a drug to sell...
  10. That was a really cute post - glad your kids have their happy gluten-free snacks, it does make a difference!
  11. This site was recomended by somone here, and is very thorough Open Original Shared Link I'm not personally up for trying it yet
  12. I enjoyed the 360 brand rice milk (cheaper) and the blue diamond almond milk - the vanilla was a treat in my coffee! Now i'm off rice and almonds (grr), and i've started with the vance's darifree potato milk. Its not as good as rice and almond, but its not as strong as soy milk, which i could NOT find a brand I liked. i havent tried hemp milk yet, but...
  13. The vegan gourmet is the one I shred on tacos (in small quanitities). i did use it in a mac-n-cheese, which I could eat but my son didnt enjoy. I am very sensitive to tastes. Several of the cheese alts arent vegan. I tried one tofutti american slice and threw the whole package out immediately. The vegan goumet cheddar is in my health food store in the...
  14. I quit dairy and gluten at the same time, and now i'm trying to wean my 11 yo off of dairy. The milk was easy - even for his cereal, my son loves the rice and almond milk. I found a cheap rice milk (360 brand), and it was a fine sub in mashed potatos and gravy, baking, whatever. The almond milk I mostly saved for coffee Cheese is much harder. I...
  15. Just want to say, nowake, that I understand your frustration. I've been off wheat and milk since november, but every few weeks i remove a few more things lol .. and just yesterday I looked at my oven mits and my jaw dropped . . .years of greasy flour ground in to them lol ... but i couldnt find any decent ones at walmart. I havent even replaced my chipped...
  16. Yeah, I can relate too . . . I have an 11 yo who's been on celexa (ssri), and both risperdal and abilify (atypicals) for 2 years, and has been dx'd on the autism spectrum and probaby bipolar. After I started messing around with my foods, I noticed that milk products really seem to bother him. I'm tempted to take him off gluten too, but it just feels like...
  17. I'm not sure how much different it is in the UK than here - but it seems like a lot of the ppl on this forum dont have a dx - tho most that were really sick do, I think. Thats too bad that your doctor gave you bad advice about quitting gluten before the test! I think your best bet is just to say I believe i have celiac due to the blood test and I am not...
  18. My 4 yo loves rice crunch-ems (which come in a huge box) and rice cakes.
  19. I can relate - tho its me, not a kid. I was off wheat and milk as a kid for a few months due to intestinal reactions, but never dx'd with anything. I decided to quit 3 mo ago to see if i felt any better. I quickly noticed that most rice-based substitutes for baked good gave me the same problems - but it turned out it was the tapioca, which i react violently...
  20. Just wanted to say I was also off of wheat and milk as an infant due to D, and my ped said it was just an allergy and put me back on in a few months. I'm 4 inches shorter than my mother, and my sister is in between our hights, even tho my father isnt short - I really think theres a relationship there. I never had problems with rashes, but had a lot of...
  21. At my health food store, I found the Ancient Harvest Quinoa Garden Pagoda pasta - they are multi-colored funky spirally things, and they just looked irresistable so I picked some up without a plan for them. Last night, i thought about the pasta and the leftover grilled chicken I had - and suddenly, I wanted a pasta salad. In no time flat I threw it...
  22. So if you folks remember, I made it and it was . .. ok. Kid wouldnt eat it except on top of his hot dog, and i found it edible but not exciting. Well, this morning I was cooking up some new uncured turkey bacon and suddenly thought about how some people are now breading and deep-frying leftover mac-n-cheese . . . so I took my frozen leftover portion of...
  23. Just to differ slightly, many people who dont have celiac disease still are healthier without gluten. Raising kids without gluten is in no way abusive or mean. They can always make other choices when they leave your home. Your husband . . . wow, thats kinda funny that he thought pasta salad was good. Idea # 1 - dont let him go to parties alone! Idea...
  24. I know it sounds weird, but you might want to bring something for you to eat which is similar to what's being served. I havent tried it since I'm also off dairy, but Amy's apparently makes awesome gluten-free pizza. On the other hand, cutting out dairy too might help your symptoms ease up more quickly . ..
  25. Ok, that brings up another question i've been wanting to ask but not sure how . . .or where . .about hubby not being off gluten, and certain things we do . . . could I be glutened by him??
