ARCHIVED Question About Coconut As An Antifungal
dbmamaz posted a topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Short version of my question: My stomach has been bad and my rx for antifungals (from my ob-gyn) ran out. Yesterday, craving sweets, I decided to eat the regular sweetened shredded coconut you buy in a bag at the grocery store, for baking, since i've read here that coconut is an antifungal. I probably ate about a cup of it, just plain. Well, this morning... -
ARCHIVED Buy Chebe Near Philly Or Wilmington?
dbmamaz replied to dbmamaz's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks! i'll send that to my mom and see if that works for her! I dont really want to order them in the mail, becuase I'll be there in a week, and i'm not sure it would get there before then anyways. -
Thats funny - the first 2 times I made the pasta salad, I chowed down on the leftover the first day and it was all gone. I made some 2 days ago and tried it today, and . . .it was all hard. I used the corn-quinoa pagodas.

ARCHIVED How To Deal With Holiday Cookin/baking?
dbmamaz replied to LuvMoosic4life's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You can put gluten-free corn bread in a corn bread stuffing and not notice the difference. My 4 yo, who is not off gluten, loves these roll-out cookies better than any other cookie, pretty much. Sugar cookies 1 -
ARCHIVED Vinegar Mystery Solved!
dbmamaz replied to Rebecca's mom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
When I was a child i used to drink red wine vinegar from a spoon, in little sips, i LOVED it. However, I ended up with chronic yeast infections most of my adult life, and now I'm off vinegar as it seemed to be causing serious stomach problems for me. -
ARCHIVED Buy Chebe Near Philly Or Wilmington?
dbmamaz posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm just hoping someone can help! I sent my son to my mom's with four packs of chebe, and she messed up the first pack, and she's having to ration his rolls! She has tried all the places she can think of and swears no one near her sells chebe. She lives in Chadds Ford (near Wilmington, DE) and her BF lives on the main line. If anyone knows where to... -
ARCHIVED Went To The Gi
dbmamaz replied to Krystens mummy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm not sure what you are looking for here. Do you want a celiac panel? Did you try asking your primary doctor to run or order one? Have you considered just quitting gluten? Or are you in england and you need the doctor to give you a prescription for food? -

dbmamaz replied to healthynewman's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
As a mom of three who is likely to have some combination of add/bipolarII/mild aspergers on top of brain fog . . . i cant deal with elimination diets and food diaries to figure out what foods are bothering me. I went straight for testing. I got a test from A.L.C.A.T (dont spell it w/out the dots cuz it will get changed). You can get a test for up to 2... -

ARCHIVED Dna Tests And/or Food Intolerance Tests
dbmamaz replied to jjc's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I used the A.L.C.A.T test (which you cant spell here without the dots because the text gets changed . . . i guess someone was spamming about the test on the boards). Anyways, the A.L.C.A.T test not only shows gluten sensitivity, it also tests for casien, yeast, and up to 200 foods, plus colors and additives, molds, etc. However, you usually have to pay... -
Most turkey burger recipes i've ever seen include eggs and breadcrumbs. I've been making turkey burgers from ground meat with gluten-free bread crumbs (from bread i've made or from gluten-free corn flakes).

My 4 yo loves rice cakes. I posted a recipe for home-made cereal bars here: Open Original Shared Link but m y 4-yo wont eat anything sugary or sticky. You could try making bread sticks out of chebe mixes (but i guess most chebe has milk in it, i think theres one without but i havent found it). My 4 yo also loved, for a while, puffed corn cereal I found... -
ARCHIVED Why The Food Intolerances?
dbmamaz replied to holdthegluten's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Its hard when you say that lots of doctors understand leaky gut but most of the ones many of us find dont even understand celiac or food intolerances, let alone leaky gut. I live in Richmond, VA, not that small a town, and I cant find anyone to recomend a good general practitioner. I dont believe that naturopaths are liscensed in VA, because the few I've... -
ARCHIVED Negative Tests But gluten-free Diet Works
dbmamaz replied to ginnym's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just remember, the doctors work for YOU. If you dont like the doctors, fire them and get new ones. They cant tell you what to eat . . they can tell you what they think they see. They dont know everything. If you want more diet proof, eat a full meal w gluten in it, three times a day for a day or two, and see if you believe it now. Then stay off the gluten... -
ARCHIVED Help! My Kids Are Going To Kill Each Other!
dbmamaz replied to celiac-mommy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
A long time ago i didnt have a tv in my house . . . now my kids spend most of their day watching tv, playing video games and on the computer. I gave in. However, I do try to emphasize the taking turns too - but for me, its more like, you pick one show and then you pick one. If you dont like this show, you can play in your room until its your turn. I... -

I actually have a lot of food allergies -- you can be allergic to almost anything. Also, you can cross-react to a food you arent allergic too if something related is currently blooming near you. I'm eating a very limited diet, which is very frustrating, but when i stick to it (not easy) i do feel much better -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Oyster Sauce?
dbmamaz replied to urbancowboy717's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I havent found anything. I have been flavoring stir fries with gluten-free soy sauce, honey, molassas, ginger and garlic (fresh), sesame oil and fish oil (I cant eat all those any more, tho). Perhaps you can mix some of those in a way which would be pleasing for you? Are you using it as a dip or in a stir fry or what? -
I also have tons of food allergies. Several foods will give me runny nose, or make me choke on snot in my throat. I definitely am suprised how much easier it is to breath . .. but dont get me wrong, hayfever season (which runs march thru november here in richmond, va) still gets to me . . as do the cats . . .but i'm not quite as snotty. Oh, i also second...

dbmamaz replied to ArtGirl's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Wow, trying to wrap my head around this . .. hubby wants to take us to canada to see his family this summer. Theres now 2 of us gluten-free, but my allergies are way more extensive than my son's. ARCHIVED Packing Gluten-free Lunches Wearing Me Down
dbmamaz replied to dbmamaz's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks for all the responses. I think Juliebove is right, it will get easier with time, as I develop a routine. I have been on this major allergy elimination diet for only about 2 mo and my foods are still extremely limited, and loosening that will help a lot. Furthermore, my son has only been off gluten about 3 weeks, so this has been a big adjustment... -
ARCHIVED Packing Gluten-free Lunches Wearing Me Down
dbmamaz posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I finally had my son tested by A.L.C.A.T, after celiac and blood draw allergy tests were both negative. He reacted strongly to gliadin (but not gluten), and after taking him off gluten, the D finally went away. BUt - he's in middle school. I'm making chebe rolls for lunch sandwhiches, white cake from the back of the tapioca box for lunch desserts, and... -
ARCHIVED Will An Allergy Test Give An Indication To Celiacs?
dbmamaz replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I tested negative for celiac (tho the test was after I'd been off gluten for about 6-8 weeks already). I took the A.L.C.A.T test, which cost more than that, and is a mail-order thing, for sensitivities and reacted to 1/3 of the 175 foods. I went to an allergist who specailizes in food allergies, and he did scratch tests and then did small injections for... -

I looked at Ians in the grocery store yesterday . . . wow, $6 for a tiny box of fish sticks? I was just trying to decide if it would be easier to buy fish sticks for my son's tacos, instead of making extra fish for dinner - i made extra fish! So simple, I just bought some haddock (its one we can both eat), dregged in corn meal, dregged in a potato flour...
