  1. Sole (pronounced So-lay - as in 'sun') is salt saturated water - nothing to do with fish - which was why I suggested putting 'Sole salt' in Google as it would bring up the references to it. You put a tablespoon or so of salt granules or 'rocks' in a jar. Add two to three inches of water and leave for 24 hours. If all the salt has dissolved you need to...
  2. Glad you have figured out what was going on Bea. You might try making some Sole - you only need to take 1 teaspoon a day in water and it is so healing - well salt is so very, very healing anyway. I am kicking myself for not figuring it out a lot earlier - I might have healed a lot quicker had I been doing this. Things are really moving now - the weight...
  3. Bea, and anyone else that might be reading this, just to let you know that the water and salt regime is working. I am just flabbergasted to realise that all my health issues have been due to dehydration. We just don't realise that we are dehydrated. We think that because we are drinking ok and don't particularly feel thirsty that we are ok. Not true...
  4. Jason, if you look at this thread again, just to say that one thing you could try would be to drink more water. As I have mentioned on another thread, I have come to realise that a lot of the reason why we are having so many issues is because of extreme dehydration. We don't realise we are dehydrated - we think we are drinking enough, but in reality we...
  5. Hi robin. I am becoming more and more convinced that a lot of our health issues are actually down to dehydration. That may seem a strange thing to say as most people drink quite a bit of liquid during the day, but what most these days don't drink is water. Thirst is not always a good indicator - I suspect that the high ingestion of sugary drinks...
  6. Hi Donna & Ann. It's funny, but over the last few days I have turned my thoughts around somewhat. Someone on another thread triggered me into revisiting my books on alkalizing. What is interesting about that is the concept that it is not the bugs that are the cause of disease, but a result of it. Microbes/yeasts like Candida are clean...
  7. Hi Donna. There are pH strips available. I understand the 'proper' ones are more accurate than the Litmus type, and you test your urine and/or saliva. I know one lady said that her saliva had been about 5 which is very acid and at the time she had written the post it was 6.8 which is a lot better. I do think that certainly a lot of our issues are down...
  8. The pH Miracle Diet does run along similar lines to the SDC, except that it focuses heavily on raw fresh green veg and fish as pretty much the only animal protein. It doesn't include the yogurt or any dairy, no probiotics, no grains, starches or sugars except perhaps once you have been following it a while and your pH is more balanced, a little agave or...
  9. I think there is definitely something in this acid/alkaline thing. I have been revisiting Robert Young's pH Miracle books. I followed the diet for a few weeks about 3 years ago and it seemed pretty good. all my Candida symptoms went away, the IBS cleared up and my blood sugars were virtually normal. Unfortunately though by the fourth week I had developed...
  10. Thank Bea, yes, if I don't start getting results I will start stamping my feet! I have let it go too long - I suppose because I had manage to deal with it to a certain extent I just let it slide, but it's got ridiculous now. it just shows - if you are good and patient, nothing ever gets done. I suspect that those that do are the ones who can shout the...
  11. Hi Bea, I have had a moan at my local surgery today. In fact I got pretty narky with them. I rang the Hospital to find out how long the waiting should be for the ultrasound to be told 'four to five weeks'!!! The lady checked and there was no record of the referral from the surgery! Arrrggghh! Three times now i have been to the surgery to gee them up...
  12. What was your starter Katie? Are you sure it was ok when you started your journey? Did you use some from your original batch or did you buy some fresh starter yogurt? Elaine always suggested using new fresh yogurt or probiotic culture each time in case of contamination issues. Whilst we might not want to eat the commercial yogurt it is made under pretty...
  13. Hi Brian. Could be the starter that is the problem, but without knowing all the ingredients in either the crackers or the pepperoni it is difficult to know. Have you tried having the pepperoni without the crackers to rule that out? Sometimes people with gluten intolerance also have, or develop intolerances to other foods, usually carbohydrates, so, as...
  14. Hi Bea. I went back to the Doc this morning and she is going to chase up the ultrasound. I do think that somehow this is connected to my intestines somewhere. Maybe I have a blockage or something. I could do with a sink plunger to clear it all out! Purging only seems to knock it back temporarily. The ultrasound is supposed to be abdominal so whether...
  15. I don't know what is going on with me either. The diet has sorted out such a lot of things, but I just can't get to the bottom of this issue I have with everything swelling up inside. I am sure it is somehow connected to my intestines somewhere as, if I take some milk of magnesia or something that gives me a clear-out, the pressure goes down for a while...
  16. Hi Alisa. I have some issues with my upper left side too. Not sure what it is either. Soreness under and below my left armpit too - possibly to do with my lymph, but does seem much worse when I am 'bunged up'. I have been following the SCD for the last 18 months and have benefitted from it considerably, but I am still battling the 'beasties' at the moment...
  17. The SCD was initially set up by Elaine Gottschall to help people with Ulcerative Colitis (and other gut conditions) like her daughter, but along the way it was discovered to be beneficial for other health issues too. The intro part of the diet is only there for the benefit of those with such bad gut damage that they can't cope with much else, but the diet...
  18. This video, although quite long is well worth watching. It explains why processed fructose is fuelling the rise in issues like obesity and diabetes. As a Medical Professional he has picked up on that, but it is also possible that it is a big trigger for a lot of other health problems and diseases too - why stop at obesity and diabetes? The...
  19. Jason, if you eat anything in great quantity you are likely to become intolerant of it, especially carbs. You are constantly trying to 'replace' the carbs with other carbs and it is carbs that are the problem. It won't work. The bugs just adapt to your new and latest carb substitute and the cycle starts all over again. I see this over and over again...
  20. The extreme reaction I got to gluten was Diarrhea. As someone mentioned, it was like my body was trying to purge itself of the stuff, to get it out of my body as soon as possible. As I knew that I was also dairy intolerant I dropped that at the same time, however, here and there I would sneak a bit of cheese. To my surprise it bunged me up - not something...
  21. Hiya - we have been chatting about this at the end of the 'Specific Carb Diet' thread if you want to have a mooch at the last few pages. As Riceguy said, whilst Candida is certainly a good contender there are other microbes that could also be implicated. Antibiotics, in killing the 'goodies' let the 'baddies' that are not touched by, or that are resistant...
  22. I actually have a tiny olive tree in a pot in the garden and I went out to see what was on it. Apart from three or four tiny little branches with a few spindly leaves there isn't much there - and it is getting on for Winter here now so I don't expect to see any growth until the Spring! It's too cold for fruit here, but if I could at least get some leaves...
  23. Hi Jesse. Yes, well my opinion is that the gluten-intolerance is only given a named diagnosis of Celiac when the gut damage has got to a point that it shows up in tests and biopsy - bit like the fact that they only pick up and name it Addisons Disease when the adrenals have become so exhausted they hardly work any more, or Diabetes when the body fails...
  24. I agree with Bea. You need to start slowly, but it is worth persisting. I had the typical floaty stools to start with but gradually it all sorted itself out and I can eat plenty of fats now without any problem - helps to keep everything 'well oiled' too! Have you tried taking coconut oil? As it doesn't need bile for digestion it is a good way of getting...
  25. Well, mine were similar and I have to say that dumping gluten and dairy put paid to the awful stomach pain and raging diarrhea, but didn't address the underlying food intolerances and poor digestion. It has taken 18 months to rebuild my digestion from that point. There have been a few up and downs on the way, and it is still a work in progress, but I...
