Radman, What kind of gluten free bun was it? When I have hamburgers, I use Kinnikinnick, but not the buns, I use their english muffins. Believe it or not, they are delicious! Keep them frozen and just take one out when you need it. What you do is nuke it for 50 seconds, then cut it in half, then you can either toast it or put it in the toaster... -

ARCHIVED Sitting In My Office With Gas!
Canadian Karen replied to erin24's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm not really a good one to answer that debmidge, since I have many continued problems despite going gluten free. But I wanted to ask, has he cut out all of the "gas producers", i.e. beans, cabbage, etc.? I know for me cabbage is an absolute killer! Hugs. Karen -

Wow Radman! Thanks for doing that! The constipation is bang on - I have read several studies showing 30% of celiacs present with constipation, not diarrhea...... Alot of us also seem to be walking zombies with the brain fog, eh? LOL! Karen -
ARCHIVED Sitting In My Office With Gas!
Canadian Karen replied to erin24's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You know it smells bad when your dog has to leave the room!!!! (Been there, done that!)! Actually, when I was at work, the whole office knew about my gas problem. I used to go into the boardroom after lunch, close the door, lay down on the floor, lay on one side, then the other, then my back, working the gas out of my system. The whole office... -

That's one of the perplexing aspects of my case. With chronic malabsorption and chronic anemia, one of the first things the GI ordered was a bone density test for me, fully expecting to find osteoporosis (especially with my having been diagnosed with spinal stenosis at such an early age). To everyone's surprise, my results showed my bones to be stronger... -

Along with all that I have listed above that happens on a regular basis, the list below describes how I feel when I get accidentally glutened: - "locking" of shoulders/neck in the centre of my back. - I see "flashing light" in the corner of my eyes. - I see "flashes of things" i.e. something that looks like a bug crawling across the floor but thre... -

I forgot to mention a few, depression, bloating and really loud sounds in my stomach (I forget the medical name for it). My stomach sounds like a thunderstorm every day! Now, all of these are me on a day to day basis - gluten-free. If you were looking for what happens to me when I consume gluten, that's a whole different story!!! Karen -

I like the following article about refractory: https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-47104083536.c8 When I saw the specialist last week, he said he is scheduling the procedure to look for ulcerative jejunitis (I am pretty sure he said an upper GI series?) Anyway, I like the "positive spin" the above article puts on the outlook for... -

Denial, I guess Actually, I believe in refractory celiac, I just don't believe that I have it. I would love to go see Dr. Fasano. From what I have heard about him, I regard him highly. I just don't think that I would get that covered through our Canadian medical system and financially, it would be impossible for us to pay out of pocket for... -

Oh, and I forgot to mention another perplexing aspect of my case. When they did my bone density test, fully expecting it to show osteoporosis due to the malabsorption and the fact that I have spinal stenosis at such an early age, my bone density test came back that my bones were stronger than a bulls! I scored almost the highest you could score in bone... -
ARCHIVED How Strict Do We Need To Be?
Canadian Karen replied to radman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have chronic, permanent diarrhea. It has been nothing but water for over a decade now. I was sent to a professor at St. Michael's Hospital here in Toronto who specializes in celiac, he is the one handling my case now. He is also the one that discovered through colonoscopy that I had collagenous colitis. In his words, it is not a mild case, it... -
ARCHIVED How Strict Do We Need To Be?
Canadian Karen replied to radman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
To complicate matters even more, there is such a discrepency between not only the level of damage from one celiac to another, but the level of healing also. I have been religiously gluten-free, my antibody numbers have gone down from over 100 to 13, yet my villi are just as flat as they were on the first biopsy and I still have chronic malabsorption... -
It's the first thing I thought of (surprise, surprise ). Really, what worse punishment can you get then coming back as an Altoid? Hugs. Karen

It was during a full moon that the thread in question that brought up the subject of Altoids and their "unique" use, came about. So now, whenever it is a full moon, there are a few of us who put on a "straightjacket" to make sure we behave...... Karen -
