    ARCHIVED Quote Of The Day

Oh man, thanks guys! I am TOTALLY HOWLING reading this thread!!! This is exactly what I needed after the last few days! You guys always pull me through when I hit rough spots...... "Dude! You TOTALLY have celiac disease" Oh, I'm dyin' here! That's gut-splitting!!!! Karen
  3. Radman, I hope you read the link I gave you earlier about how we are trying to get the word out. Those were the best ideas we could come up with so far, but if you have any other suggestions from a medical community point of view, they would be greatly appreciated! We have come a long way in the last 5 years (e.g. in the choices of gluten free food in...
  4. I agree, Armetta........ We need some of that "LOVE" from the end of the religion thread over here! LOL! Hugs. Karen
  5. I really do wish you would re-consider radman. Just read around, and learn. You'll see we are really a great bunch of people who lean on each other, love helping others, including those who are new and are trying to learn. Please do not let the posts of few deprive you of the wealth of information and encouragement you would get from all the rest of...
  6. Thank you, Mahee, My first thought also was that radman was putting it in layman's terms as not everyone understands the individual names of doctors. That being said, I hope radman continues to come to us to learn about this disease, not only to help himself, but to help untold others who in the future will learn about celiac from him due to the knowledge...
  7. I agree, gfp. We all agree that there is a lengthy process (i.e. grieving, denial, etc.) to go through before we get to the acceptance point. I am sure that doctors are no different. We all deserve time to let things sink in, and we all have to remember how difficult it was in the beginning to grasp the severity of this disease. Karen
  8. Radman, The first thing you need to do if you are going to consider weeding out all sources of gluten is to download the delphi list. This is a list of mainstream gluten free food items in the supermarket. The list is categorized into convenient categories to save time when you are in the middle of the aisle trying to read labels! (Picture this: ...
  9. Radman, You are very correct in your statement that the medical establishment needs to be more informed. My own family doctor (who is about the same age as me) herself has admitted (after decades of my unexplained gluten-related medical issues that finally were answered with the celiac diagnosis through bloodwork) that the only thing she was taught...
  10. I am really sorry if I sound close-minded in regards to this, but I have read those links and it seems to me that this is something that was thought up by someone who wanted an excuse for having extremely spoiled off-spring. Children of Oz. Well, I kinda have a few of those, because they sometimes think I am the Wicked Witch of the North! Hugs...
  11. I should also mention that celiac does present itself so differently in each individual. I myself am plagued by chronic diarrhea (for over a decade now), severe anemia, brain fog (I hate that stoned feeling!) and typical gastro-intestinal difficulties (pain, excessive gas, etc. etc.) My villi are as flat today as they were when diagnosed 4 years ago (for...
  12. Hi Radman! Welcome to the board! This is an interesting thread. It reminds us all that doctors are not the "walking medical encylopedias" we mistakenly think they should be. So many of us have the misconception that if you have become a doctor, you automatically should know EVERYTHING there is to know about EVERY single disease plaguing this world...
  13. After reading this, I wondered if you had been tested also for celiac. I am glad you found this board and there are lots of people here with lots of great info and great support for you. Welcome! Karen
  14. Well, the only thing that helps me is I take Pepto Bismol, stay REALLY close to my heating pad, sitting on my bed cross legged and rocking back and forth, humming. It kinda puts me into a trance where I can "put myself in a happy place". Also, when drinking water, make sure it's not ice cold. It's too much of a shock to your system. I usually fast for...
  15. If it turns out to be only a lactose problem, then I use Fleishmann's. They have a margarine that is both gluten free and lactose free. Happy baking! Karen
  16. I despise how a television season isn't a true season anymore! What happened to TV like it was in the 80's? You had a favourite TV show, and once the season started, you were guaranteed a new show EVERY week until the cliffhanger at the end of the season. Nowadays, you never know what you are going to get. Half the time, it is a rerun and the other half...
  17. Hi! I still use the hemp hearts. I sprinkle them on top of my Envirokids cereal in the morning. I didn't find they made any difference in the energy dept. but they are great for a supply of Omegas and they taste really great! They have a nice nutty taste that I am hooked on........ Spruces up my cereal! Collagenous colitis is different. It...
  18. My problem is that I just love the stuff so much. The closest I can get to Utopia (other than the obvious, of course, which involves Altoids..... ) is guzzling a huge ice cold glass of milk, not even coming up for air until it is all done. Nothing quenches my thirst better......... Karen
  19. I also improved greatly through my teens. As a child, I had severe constipation (impacted several times), would black out frequently and had unexplained anemia. As a teenager, health greatly improved, absolutely no problems through high school and early working years. Early 20's, I declined greatly and have been declining steadily ever since! ...
  20. That was from the American Delphi list, but they do add Canadian references in there also...... Hugs! Karen
  21. LOL! Sure, no pressure, eh? I'll have to work on it - going to my Moms and Nannys today with the boys..... Hugglees! Karen
  22. Hi Jennifer! Depending on how much damage is done inside your intestines strongly affects how long it will take you to recover. Some people (lucky them!) see an improvement almost immediately, some take up to a year. There have been reports that some people take a full two years to recover. Everyone is different. Be patient, it will happen. As long...
  23. Wow! Just got back into this thread and read about what is happening to you in this relationship. Your counsellor is a very wise person. I am glad you are taking their advice. When I read this thread, honest to God, you know what image I got? The guy from "Sleeping with the Enemy", ya know the movie with Julia Roberts? This guy sounds like a control...
  24. LOL! If I sang it to my husband, he WOULD die, but from my singing! not the song! LOL Karen
