  1. Thanks for posting that, Richard! It does make sense.... p.s. Is your avatar a picture of your beautiful Grace? Hugs. Karen
  2. Her doctor I think was the one mentioning he noticed a link between those malformations and celiac disease. Although, I was the one who mentioned spina bifida in my post (my mom's firstborn died from it). But I do find it interesting that these "birth defects" happen to run in my mom's side of the family - and it is this side of the family that I am certain...
  3. I've seen pizza dough, but I would have to check again in the freezer section of my grocery store to see if there is bread dough also..... Karen
  4. Wow! This really threw me for a loop! I have always had a bad back that "gives" out, and in my early 20's after an MRI, was diagnosed with spinal stenosis. I used to get steriod injections in my spine every six months before they stopped doing it up here (apparently, the doctors were frying their hands as you have to be on an x-ray table while they are...
  5. I've had two biopsies now, although this GI professor that I go to has only done the colonoscopy to find the collagenous colitis, he didn't do a biopsy, he's going by the results of previous biopsies..... No repair.... Karen
  6. Mine must have more holes than a sponge!!!! LOL! I got what she meant right away too! Lisa, to answer your question, you can go back and edit the body of your post, but you cannot change the title..... Hugs. Karen
  7. I'm still hoping I get a little devil smiley!!!! LOL! Karen
  8. If the window people are the ones who get the fries, then my first thought is YUCK! Do they put gloves on to get the fries? If not, you mean to tell me they are touching disgusting dirty money with germs all over it and then touching my fries? YUCK! Karen
  9. Carriefaith: Sorry you got a reaction from Swiss Chalet. Sending you {{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}} and hope you are feeling better. Hugs. Karen
  10. I think all we are doing is explaining in detail to anyone who is reading this thread exactly what "brain fog" is...... At least we are confirming what everybody already knows - celiac and brain fog to hand in hand..... Hugs. Karen
  11. Yes, it's 3:30 a.m. and I am up again, bowels fully active (as usual)......... Lisa, I fully agree that it is all vitamin related. Once your body starts healing and absorbing the vitamins and nutrients again, those brain cells that have gone to sleep will wake well rested and ready to go...... The problem with me is because I fail to heal even with...
  12. Hey Lisa, don't feel bad, I am 42 (well, will be 43 in April), and it happens to me more often than I wish to admit. Just today, I was booking an appointment for something, giving my address, phone number, and I ALMOST drew a blank at my house number, and I TOTALLY blanked out at my phone number....... Scary... Also, I am talking to Terry and in the...
  13. Koolaid crystals and Koolaid Jammers are gluten free. Karen
  14. Last year I saved every receipt for gluten free food. I logged everything. When it came tax time, the amount I had spent on gluten free food (which to me seemed astronomical!), didn't even come close to the minimum amount allowed to be claimed. Now I don't know whether the amount is determined based on family income (since both hubby and I had fairly good...
  15. But the McDonald fries in Canada are EXACTLY the same, same taste, same texture, size, etc. etc. yet McDonald's Canada uses an oil that does not contain any wheat/gluten. I think they could change the oil used without compromising their taste...... Karen
  16. Hi Kat! Welcome to our group! There's a bunch of really knowledgeable and supportive people here who are always willing to help out - we've all been there at the beginning where it is just sooo overwhelming but trust me, there is a light at the end of the tunnel and you will get through this. Once you see the improvements in your son (I love the name...
  17. He sounds like the old, old doctor mentality that you only look for celiac in children with bloated bellies..... Tell the guy he needs to get up to speed (or at least into this millenium!!!!) Hugs. Karen
  18. Cheliac? I can understand (maybe) people mistaking it for Keliac instead of Seliac (the same as some say Keltic instead of Seltic), but Cheliac? Sheesh! Karen
  19. Their chicken, dipping sauce, baked potato are gluten free along with their sour cream. When hubby goes to get me a 1/4 chicken, he makes sure they don't add any bun and makes sure they don't mistakenly put their gravy in there instead of the dipping sauce. Bon Apetite! Karen
  20. Hi Sarah! Welcome to the board! There's a bunch of really great people here with a vast amount of knowledge about celiac. It's a great resource! Karen
  21. Wow! That's cheap! I just bought two boxes today (berry and peanut butter) @$5.79/box! It is a very rare treat for me. I also bought two packages of El Peto's butter tarts - they are $6.79/pkg of 6 tarts, but they are to die for!!!! Karen
  22. What's POA? Karen
  23. It just had on a news channel here (CP24) that there have been at least three lawsuits filed in the U.S. due to McDonald's disclosure of wheat and dairy in their fries....... Sounds like they will be coming in fast and furious, but I hope not...... Is this just the beginning? I wish McDonald's would hurry up and come out with the "scientific facts...
  24. Hi Linda! I just happen to have a box right here since I went to the Great Canadian Superstore today and bought about 8 boxes (the boxes of 10 were on sale for $1.88) When you have four kids going to school, you go through alot of these!! Anyway, it is from Kraft, so we know that they would list anything we aren't supposed to have. The ingredients...
  25. I hope it doesn't have a ripple effect....... What if the companies who currently are supplying the gluten free market (foods, bread, etc.) decide it's just too risky. What if they think that as soon as they "slip up" accidentally (for instance a contamination issue), they are going to get their asses sued into next week. They just won't think it's worth...
