ARCHIVED Mcd's In Chicago Tribune
Canadian Karen replied to bluelotus's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I think this whole situation has just been very frustrating and trying for us all. It doesn't help that McDonald's has not come out with a detailed and definitive answer to explain their stance. Just stating "the gluten is removed during processing" just doesn't cut it for most of us. We're not a bunch of scientists here and we don't expect an overly scientific... -
ARCHIVED Mayonaise
Canadian Karen replied to Squall's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Squall! Don't beat yourself up about it! It is a major diet change and takes a lot of time to really get it under control...... As for mayonnaise and margarine, yes, gluten may be in some brands..... For margarine, I use Fleishmann's and for mayonnaise, I use Hellman's...... Hugs Karen -

ARCHIVED Why Am I In A Better Mood?
Canadian Karen replied to penguin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi ChelSe, I have read many, many posts here on this message board from women (including myself), who are totally different people gluten-free than they were when they were consuming gluten. When I get glutened, I turn into an angry, fly-off-the-handle-at-the-drop-of-a-hat person that I don't like very much!!! I become extremely quick tempered and generally... -
ARCHIVED Mcd's In Chicago Tribune
Canadian Karen replied to bluelotus's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Well, I think that's where the controversy is...... McDonald's stance is that through "processing" the wheat protein is removed, thereby making them gluten-free (my take on this is this is the "Covering Their Butts" aspect of their statement), yet, they go on to de-list the fries by taking them off the gluten-free list and officially adding wheat and dairy... -
ARCHIVED Mcd's In Chicago Tribune
Canadian Karen replied to bluelotus's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I have no idea where this defensiveness is coming from considering the fact that Peter's post was nothing more than an objective observation that McDonald's seems to continue to be silent on this "magic process". I saw not one hint of an argument in his post. Also, I think of all the people on this forum, I know for a fact that Peter has been doing... -

ARCHIVED Feeling Sorry For Myself...
Canadian Karen replied to Basha's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Basha! Nice to see another fellow Canadian! I so understand where you are at right now. It can really get to you sometimes, especially when there is a "special occasion" where you used to be able to partake without a second thought, and now it seems that our diet runs our lives. It does get easier as time goes on, and I take comfort in the fact that... -
ARCHIVED Newb Question, Plz No Flaming :)
Canadian Karen replied to awesomeame's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Matt, Why in the world would you think we would flame you for that question? We've all been there, standing there like a deer in headlights, totally lost in the gluten free world! We have a motto here: The only stupid question is the question that you DO NOT ASK!!!! Please feel comfortable to ask away! Karen -
ARCHIVED I Shouldn't Be Excited
Canadian Karen replied to Timber4est's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What a wonderful surprise! He's definitely a keeper! Happy Valentine's Day! Hugs. Karen -
I am not sure if this is the same thing as you guys are talking about, but my knees "pop" when I crunch down. And I mean POP! You can hear it clear across the street! And every once in awhile, they "give out" with a sharp pain, and I have to sit down for a few minutes for it to go away...... Ah, the joys of celiac..... Hugs. Karen

ARCHIVED Anyone Else Terrified Of V-day?!
Canadian Karen replied to penguin's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Hi! Just have to say that although is it scary eating out, it is sweet that your husband is trying to make this a wonderful, memorable, gluten-free Valentine's Day. You see, I wouldn't know I got the same as I get every year, a card (albeit he does say in the card that he thanks God every day for his wonderful family and "fantastic" wife)... -
Think I can coax them up to Canada? Sounds like an awesome alternative to McD's....... Maybe they would trust their family business to celiacs who know how important it is to keep up quality control..... Karen

ARCHIVED Celiac And Reflux
Canadian Karen replied to Kenster61's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Maalox is a definite no-no....... Maalox (Novartis) (800.452.0051) (vp=08/12/02) Liquid or Tablets (NOT gluten-free) contains gluten...... I know, it broke my heart. All through my pregnancies, I drank that stuff like mad for the heartburn. I have since learned it contains gluten. Hugs. Karen -

Canadian Karen replied to lemonade's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It is the most trusted list (by me, anyway, and lots of people here) of gluten free products. Here is a link, but you will have to register, but it is free: Open Original Shared Link The list is really convenient, especially when shopping, as it is broken down into convenient categories..... Hugs. Karen -

ARCHIVED I Can't Believe It!
Canadian Karen replied to 4tomorrow's topic in Publications & Publicity
Hi 4tomorrow....... I don't think Vydorscope meant to be rude, honestly.... It is hard sometimes to figure out how a post was meant to be taken, and knowing Vincent, I don't think he is being mean, it just came out wrong, I think..... We're actually losing control of the posts here on this message board regarding the Mcdonald's disclosure! It... -
