thanks! I havent heard of that. I'm definitly going to look into it! I'll wait till after the G.I doc and see whats going on before I use anything else though.

My doc recommended t for me for my constipation until I get to the G.I doc. The first time I took it I got horrible cramps about 8 hours later..almost like the type I would get with "D" accept i didnt have D. He wanted me to take one in the morning after a meal and one in the evening and of course drink plenty of water. I tried it for about a few days and it didnt seem to bother me again, but then I started getting sharp pains and cramps to follow... and when it happened at work I thought I was going to die trying to keep a striaght face dealing with the public and having pain!
So I went off of it and the cramps dissapearred, tried it again and they came back...I can't take the pills anymore...not worth it, I'd rather be "C"....but I'm not always C, it just seems to happen whenever it wants. If I eat nothing but cooked veggies, fruit and fish, I am fine, but I would like to be able to have more variety, I cant go on like this forever....
I've tried stool softeners and other fiber products, same reaction.
I was just seeing if anyone else else a problem tolerating pills like these, or if there is an underlying reason I can't take them.... it will be interesting to see what the g.i doc says, I've had so many problems up until now that his head will probably be spinning
-
hahaha I'll have to look for that.
another thing, beside dreams, I havent had any cravingd for gluten what so ever, especially not bread, but it bothers me that lately I've been craving Grape Nuts- AHHH! And this was one of the products that bothered me big time....wierd
-
yup yup! And I sat there thinking how many other celiacs saw this...as we are probably the only ones to notice something like this, especially since its shown in a split second!!!
-
has anyone actually had a reaction to hershey kisses? I've been eating them with no prob...but now I'm mad b/c I read this after buying a whole bag..
-
I know a lot of people have posted about dreams where they are eating gluten.
For th past couple weeks it seems I started having theses dreams where i am eating pizza, toast, or whatever and doing it purposley knowing it is bad for me and then worrying that I will get sick. I know part of the reason may be because i am seeing a g.i doc next week and I am afraid he is going to want me to go back on gluten for the test, but I DONT WANT TO! And they cant make me!!. I've gone so long without being sick, I swear this is a record for me in 7 years: over a 1/2 a year without a cold or sinus infection!!!!
For anyone else who has had dreams like this, when did you start having them? I never had them when first going gluten-free, but now, a few months in, it seems to be every other night almost!
-
if you were diagnosed with celiac disease, you have it, there is no false positive result. Even if you do not feel symptoms eating gluten, you are doing damage to your body, it will hit you hard in the long run.

So I've been staying away from nightshades as much as I can b/c I have found they make me feel icky. I ate a tomato the other day because a friend brought some over from his garden, it wasnt even appealing to me!!! and now just thinking of tomatoes make me feel naucious!
I read that sweet potatoes arent nightshades??? I never really ate them much before, but I've been having them quite regularly now. I cut them in strips, put them on a tray with olive oil and pepper and stick em in the toaster oven on broil untill they get crispy on the edges...mmm....
on the other hand, regular potaoes : the thought makes my stomach churn now! I dunno why, I used to love them, but sweet potatoes are way better. I hope they arent a nightshade...

I know what you mean about organic and gluten free being confused with each other. When my daughter was first dx, my mom called me to tell me she found organic oatmeal at stater bros. Don't get me started on how many people here gluten and then think she has to watch her sugar.
So I agree, the more people hear about it the better.
haha. I hear ya. I told people at work that I cant have gluten b/c they kept giving me snacks and homemade brownies ect...which I turned down of course......they all thought I was diabeic
well, actually a couple understood completley, but still.....glucose....gluten.....hmmm
-
you know, I was going to post about this also! I've been having allergy like symptoms much more lately since going gluten-free. I always get symptoms this time of year, but this is differant than usuaal...I almost thought I was getting a cold at first! itchy eyes, runny nose, itchy throat! normally I get sinus infections this time of year, but i guess I'd rather have this....

Just 3 ideas:
Bragg's apple cider vinegar(has the "mother" in it)- straight shots or in juice, or drink it with a straw at the back of the throat to avoid the taste. It helps my sister who only "goes" about 1 or 2 times a week for years until she got started on it. Good for lots of things!
www.bragg.com
Berries with seeds, extra benefit if you chew the seeds
Popcorn if you can tolerate it (never microwaved)- pop in coconut oil, use plenty and you don't need butter
wow, I will try that!
as far as the seeds and popcorn, those actually dont do much for me, but then I always buy smart balance microwave, so maybe I'll try what you said. It just seems that anything fiberous does exactly the opposite of what its suppose to do for most people, its almost like my body doesnt properly draw water into the intestinal tract.....but then I could stil;l be healing because most of the time my foods never seem to get digested or broken down, and then this causes them to just sit in my colon....
-
I was excited when I saw this! although it does bother me a bit that people combine the idea of Organic and healthy foods with allergies and Gluten free. The last thing I need is more people thinking that gluten free means organic or healthy.... its not neccesarrily a health CHOICE. it is, but it isnt depending on how much you care about yourself....
but still, at least gluten free is getting heard a bit more...

I am not ingesting gluten, although it is possible I may be getting VERY tiny amounts though CC in my environment. Unltil I get out of college and on my own, I will have to live with someone else. I wash my hands and do everything I can to avoid CC. I only got constipated when I was eating gluten when I would take in large amounts, especially the whole grain type, whole wheat breads, bran cerals ect.. ect.. but it was a differant type of constipation, more irritating and itchy.
Gas and bloating are my immedtiate reactions to gluten, then D will follow if i am continuing to consume it.. Even when I stick to nothing but fruits and veggies i still have this C. I will have to try eliminating meat, but then I dont know where to get my protien since nuts and dairy bother me, beans arent so great for me either.....this sucks sometimes!
-
About a month after going gluten free I started getting c. It would be off and on, but now a few months later it seems to be all the time. I get the urge to go, but it just does not want to come out. Sometimes I'm straining so hard my head starts pounding! the doc recommended "fiber con"...it gives me horrible cramps that just come whenever they please. I've tried stol softners, but i get gassy and bloated. I've tried elimiating differant things nad find find that nuts and corn make it worse, but not always..... If I eat an insane amount of veggies I go somewhat normal, but the initial "getting it to come out" is still a bit straining. The stool will be softer with certain foods, but it lately has been nothing but dry. I hate to say it but I've actually had to use my finger to get it out!!! It makes me want to vomit!!! (SORRY, but maybe someone else has gone through this???)
The only thing differant that I can think of in my dietis the probiotic I stared a month after going gluten-free. I am taking Schiff- acidophilus it is gluten free. I take it twice a day and maybe 3 if I know I eat something that will bother me a bit (non-gluten of course) and it definitly has helped my heart burn problem. I've been reading that probiotics help with C, but is it possible for them to make it worse? Or should I try a differant type of bacteria?
I'm seeing the G.I doc next week. At this point I definitly dont even want to be tested for celiac, I just want to go to the bathroom!!!!
I'm thinking I may have colitis....but the thought crossed my mind about the probiotics....
any feedback?

Could you put your dirty gluten-free dishes in a bag in your own dish pan/storage container, to protect them until you get back home to wash them after classes? My dd moved to an apt. and lives with a slob. She can't even make something b/c all the pans are in the sink and the dishes in the dish washer...dirty.
I cook food for her and freeze it, then get it to her (over an hour drive) so all she has to do is microwave it. Its fun cooking for her but its not fair b/c I bought all the kitchen stuff and she can't use it.
When her lease is up she WILL have a new roommate! 8 months to go
you know, I never though of that!!! thanks! so far my roomie is pretty clean with dishes, but I will definitly be doing that if there are dishes in the sink. She already took one of my spoons I brought with me here
but oh well, it's just a spoon, I'll make sure to put it them away next time immediatly after washing......grr
-
I'm moving back to my apt. at school this weekend. Unlike last semester I have a roomate this semester so I planned ahead. Obviously it will be impossible for me to have a gluten free kitchen so I am bringing a plasic storage container for all my food and keeping it out of the way. As far as pots and pans/silverware ect.. I'm using my own and washing it immediatly after I am done using it with my own sponge that will also be out of the way of all the gluten foods. I'm keeping a few plates, bowls and silverware for myself to use in a plastic container also. I think as long as I wash my hands before I eat and dont clean my roomate's gluten dishes I will be O.K. It will suck b/c a lot of times I'm in a hurry and leave stuff in the sink, wah it later... that is one thing I wont be able to do anymore with sharing a sink. On the positive side, I have a good excuse NOT to wash my roomates dishes!!! And she definitly doesnt have to worry about me eating her food. I'll just have to make sure she doesnt use my mayo/butter, I'll definitly be sharpie-ing it "gluten-free" haha- you never know who may just stop by and use something of mine

Hugs to you all.
I am stil so new to this..and its been 2 years at least. My moods were so bad, I was on 2 kinds of depression meds and still I wanted kill myself daily, and my rants and rages were bad. After celiac I am on nothing but I suffer from constipation I assume from al my protein intake and I am confused as hell about modifyed starchs...gawd! No one can give me an anwser there. Ugg..
I was tolds to start the Birth control pill which has MS in it...and I have been suffering bad mood swings....I am at a losss....
Rebecca
I cant take birth control. Thats what I did last time to start my periods back up. I gained 20 IBS on the pill. retained water so bad it hurt to touch my skin and my muscles would cramp up with charlie horses. I enede up in the ER with a hemoglobin of 8 and then had to go on iron, which made me sick also- blah! My gyno I have now said she wont put me on the pill since there are heart problems in my immediate family and conidering my reaction...

My "friend" went from 29 day cycle to 34 since gluten free. Weird. I dont understand how it messes with the hormones. Im at a loss.
I hope they get to the bottom of your issues soon. No pun intended.
I think it might be because wheat products have phytoestrogens ( they can mimic estrogen in the female reproductive system) so taking that out may throw the hormones off in some people.....but dont qoute me on that, I've only looked into the phytoestrogen thing a little bit becaue i have tried taking fennel in the past ( before going gluten-free) for my gas problem- (HA, the things I've tried........)

Please keep me updated as to what you find out! I would say that mine is either from the digestive stuff OR because I'm 25 years old, 5'5" and I went from about 125 lb to 117lb? Do you think? I started dieting in April. I'm so confused!!!! I wish it would just come...
I will definitly post back on hear after my appt.
it sounds like your problem is from wight loss, but probablyl that with a combination of other things.
Do you have any pms symptoms? When I lost my period @ 115 pounds I didnt have any pms symptoms what-so-ever. Right now I've been having constant pms symptoms since april, but no period since may! Most of my body wieght is muscle mass, but I can gain up to 10 ibs in water just in 2-3 days- so frustrating!!! and uncomfortable. BUt nobody ever takes me seriosly because I look thin, like 120, but I am really 140.... I know I have a good balance between fat and muscle, but I dont feel in balance, one day I'll be 135, the next 145!! so i am completely lost....it has to be gluten related....
-
I am in you EXACT boat. I have not had my "friend" since April. Since April I haven't consumed gluten, except for the few "messups." I am also in your same boat with the C. I went gluten-free and THEN had all the Celiac tests, which, were negative - no surprise. I had an endo and a colonoscopy. The dr did find a form a colitis - proctitis. This means that when I have a "flare up," I won't be able to get anything through me...not even a laxative, until the bottom of me is softened. So when I make mistakes I get severely backed up and have to do enemas. Have you had a colonoscopy?
My biggest frustration, though, is still that it's been since April with no friend! I'm getting married soon and am getting concerned about children....
OMG!! my mom mentioned colitis! well I'm glad I'm not going insane.
I havent had a colonoscopy or anything. I havent actualy been to the G.I. yet, or ever. I havent had my P since May, and like you I am more concerned about that than the digestive problems. I'v lost my period for being too thin when I was 16, but I wiegh 140 now and am 5'6.....I was 115 when I lost it last time! I'm mostly muscle mass, but I DEFINITLY have healthy fat on me...
thanks so much for responing
-
jewles.....what may be happening is Celiacs have a tendency to have insufficient pancreatic function, which will make it very hard for you to completely digest meat.
Would this be why I get a nawing, aching pain just to the right of my stomach after I eat too much or too much of something high in fat???? I'm not diagnosed celiac, but I am convinced I have it....
-
thanks!!! Yeah, my mom is thinking that my reproductive problems have been causing all my digestive problems this whole time....either way, I'm still avoiding gluten given the amazing changes I've seen! the positive definitly outwieghs the negatives.

So I saw my primary doc. He referred me to a G.I and a gyno because I have probs in both those ares since going gluten-free. Now my gyno ran some hormone tests on me and referred me to another place to get a transvaginal ultrasound to see why I lost my "friend" and am in discomfort/ horrible mood swings, and constipation.
My G.I appt. is before the ultrasound. I am not diagnosed celiac and I really at this point dont want to go back to eating gluten to find out...I'm REALLLY hoping the G.I doc is understanding of me b/c I still have digestive problems, just nothing like before!!.... I get the sensation to go to the bathroom, but it wont come out!!! it feels like there is something blocking it, even when I take a laxative.....and get to the point of D. I feel it right there, but it gets stuck at one point...... SO I'm wondering if all my problems are linked from reproductive problems (maybe something like endometrieosis growth???) or just strictly digestive.
This all started since going gluten-free. I would rather have the problems I have now than what I had before. lol. BUT STILL, I'm just going crazy trying to figure out whats going on.
Anyone else experience something like this??
it isnt helping that my family is still obbessing over the fact that I wont be able to eat all the same foods at holidays and gatherings....I keep reassring them I can make a gluten-free alternative to everything and anything, but they say "yah, its just not the same" GRRRR!!!!! I wonder sometimes if I am dealing with this better than them. They support me in the fact that I found what m problem is, but they arent supportive of the change...so this makes me feel like they arent really supportive AT ALL!!!!! I started crying trying to explain this to my mom, so I'm hoping she mmust realize I'm not joking around, but she didnt react emotionally to me crying, which makes me just want to move far FAR away from family and just start a new life, which is exactly what I have in mind for after college......
rant over n' out!!

If Stevia ever comes down in price, I would perfer that over Splenda (well assuming it tastes good, not tried it yet) but at OVER three times the cost of Splenda, and phemonily more expensive then raw sugar I am not willing to consider it yet.
Xiotol (how ever its spelled) is not carried in any of my local stores, so dunno how tis priced.
if you buy a bottle of clear liquid stevia by "sweet leaf" (some other brands add othe things like alcohol so I stay away from them) it goes a lot father than a box of splenda
its like $8 where I live. I would rather spend a couple extra bucks for something more natural....
