  1. Yes, all of the gluten-free processed foods are very carby and empty.....a recipe for weight gain. You are better off foregoing the pre-made gluten-free stuff (or the once a week idea is good). And stick to real foods like meats, veggies, fruits, nuts, eggs, brown rice, etc. Whole grains only and in moderation (serving size).
  2. Anna the writer....another great story. I have discovered the yumminess of coconut milk and shredded coconut. It helps with the boredom. I can eat almond flour (meal) which is also good. Whole nuts are very hard to digest. But like you, I am mostly meats, eggs, veggies and fruits. Thank God for spices!!
  3. I think the first few times just let him try and not force it. Maybe rub his back, sing or read to him. Whatever relaxes him and then see if he will drink it.
  4. Sounds awesome.....too bad I am in FL. But I use almond meal to make a yummy pound cake that gets raves as well....no grains at all in it. Congratulations!!
  5. I didnt have to do it on purpose. It was done for me at Cheesecake factory and at Whole Foods.
  6. Vitiligo is common in Celiac along with other auto-immune diseases. Not everyone has digestive issues. And the blood tests are not very accurate. If I were you, I would ask for a genetic test to see if you even have the genes. It might make it easier for you to try the gluten free diet. If it were me, I would try it anyway. To see if it...
  7. I would try gluten free diet no matter what the tests show. What do you have to lose? It sounds like nothing. Also avoid dairy and soy for 3 - 4 months. Let your body heal. It can.
  8. Why not go and tell him your symptoms and just see what he suggests. Do you have a family history of Celiac? Family members with auto-immune diseases associated with Celiac like thyroid and/or diabetes? Any family members die of intestinal cancer or lymphoma? These could be valuable clues to give your doctor.
  9. Does your doctor know you are a med student? If not, dont tell him. If he does, go to a different doctor and dont tell them. Or if you dont want any bother with doctors and can afford it....order a Celiac panel yourself. Many online labs will order them for you without a doctor. I like directlabs.com but also use Healthcheckusa sometimes. You...
  10. So you feel better off gluten, felt worse loading up on it and according to your GI Doctor have a 20% chance of not having it with a POS blood test. That means you have an 80% chance of having it. Look at your results and the odds.....you gotta ask yourself......Do I feel lucky? Because if you choose to keep eating gluten and you are Celiac......you...
  11. Did you get your gallbladder out?
  12. Just some things to muddle over: Any new foods added to your diet? More soy to replace dairy? New toiletries? Are you married/dating someone who eats gluten and then you kiss them? Have you tried cutting out ALL dairy for at least a week to see? Are your salads prepared at home or at a restaurant? Salad bar? Dressing? Plain...
  13. ANA is indicative of auto-immune disease, but it is not specific. Celiac is auto-immune (which you have). Auto-immune diseases often come in multiples. Hashimotos Thyroid and Diabetes are common in Celiacs. But your symptoms could be RA (rheumatoid arthritis) which is also auto-immune. You should see a specialist in RA. Make extra sure you are not...

    ARCHIVED Weight Gain

Try using coconut oil for cooking and also for spreads. It revs up the metabolism and assists the thyroid. And.....have you had your thyroid tested? A low thyroid can keep you heavy no matter what you do. When I was heavy years ago....2 things kept me that way.....dairy and sugar. If I wanted to lose weight, I just cut those out and nothing else...
  15. Sure sounds like it to me. You might try some anti-fungals like Caprylic Acid, Pau d' Arco, Neem, Grapefruit Seed Extract PLUS add in probiotics (acidophilus and bifidum). These will help.
  16. Deb has a good point. Reactions to gluten are unpredictable sometimes. You might get a new symptom from eating it now. I wouldnt do it. Those little bits of gluten would mean a vacation filled with vertigo and migraines.....no thanks!!
  17. Congratulations on your vacation!! I Googled "gluten free" + Canada and found this: Open Original Shared Link There were tons more sites to help you. "gluten free" + "Canada" Looks like there are lots of options for you.
  18. I bought a bottle of Cellfood and took it till it was gone. I didnt notice anything at all. Nothing. I have tried many supplements in my day. Some have helped. Some have done nothing. And some made things worse. I rate this one a 0 on a scale of 1-10 because it did nothing.
  19. There are many theories about this. Some even believe it starts in the brain. The brain controls everything. We spend a good amount of our time beating ourselves up. We say things to ourselves like, "That was stupid.", "What's wrong with me.", "Im fat.", "Im ugly.", "Im getting old.", "I hate my body." and our cells "hear" this constant attack. So they...
  20. You can see my pups on my My Space page. terracegallery
  21. Yes, you can ask your doctor for it. That is our Bacchus...a harlequin Great Dane. A mixed media painting I did of him. We rescue. We had 3 plus a standard poodle. But the 2 senior dogs 13 and 10 passed away within the last 9 months. So we have 2 dogs now, but are expecting our next adoption within the next 2 weeks. A black girl.
  22. It isnt too long. I can understand why you are worried. Will he drink? Could try some ensure or a homemade smoothie to see if he will eat that. I would stay AWAY from dairy at least for a few months while his intestines heal. Use almond milk or gluten-free rice milk for the smoothie.
  23. Have you had a Total IgA test done to see if you are deficient or low? If you are then you will not be able to produce a lot of IgA antibodies and your tests will show negative when you could really be having a strong reaction. But ALWAYS the proof is in the diet. Remove dairy and see what happens. If you improve, you have your answer.
  24. I made turkey meatballs with 1/2 cup almond flour and they were delicious! You can use the recipes above, but sub out the polenta/oats with almond meal to conform to SCD. I put fennel seeds in mine. The are not on the SCD illegal list. I also use italian herbs, garlic powder, salt, pepper, onion powder on top of chopped onions and the almond meal.
