  1. that just doesn't sound like a great idea, in my opinion. i wouldn't hesitate to speak with a manager.
  2. Tiffany, your dog is so cute trying to get your arm as you're trying to make a snow angel! and i love your hat...was that a hole in the back for your ponytail that i saw? we've had about 20 or so inches in the past week - 3 storms total. i'm not working right now so i can just sit inside and admire the pretty snow and not have to worry much about driving...
  3. me too...sometimes i was lucky to get a few decent hours of sleep. walking was tough and also long periods of sitting the same position (like at work, in a meeting).
  4. the employer will accept an unofficial one...i just don't know if the college will fax it or let a family member pick it up. i don't want to drive all the way there if i don't have to. i did check the account access on their website but it's only for current students so no luck there.
  5. just my personal experience.... for a year before i was diagnosed, i had pretty bad hip joint pain. finally, only after being gluten free for 3-4 months my leg pain subsided. in addition to the joint pain, i had that achy "growing pain" feeling. now it seems like it only flares up when i'm CC'd.
  6. i had a job interview on Friday and within 10 minutes of leaving, i got a call from the interviewer asking to provide a copy of my college transcript. i rushed home to call the college and find out what could be done on short notice but they had closed early due to snow. i've since faxed a request for them to fax my transcript to the employer but i'm not...
  7. thanks for that recipe elonwy...i might just get a little crazy and make it from scratch!
  8. is Pillsbury frosting still gluten-free? i've read a few older posts that indicate yes but Duncan Hines is not...is this still the case?
  9. i say it's probably best to just acknowledge the gesture rather than focusing on the fact that you couldn't enjoy the treat. they probably won't even notice you didn't say how yummy the cookies were. do you have a neighbor that you can pass the goodies on to? or a church or community center? the break room at work you can put the food out for your fellow...
  10. for Christmas Eve, i'm bringing a salad to my boyfriends parents house...i don't really feel like preparing a big meal just for me to have to reheat. oh and i'm going to make chocolate chip cookies so i'll have something to eat for dessert, too. my pumpkin choc chip ones were a hit at Thanksgiving! Christmas Day...we're staying home and having steak...
  11. i noticed a reaction to dairy when i first went gluten free so i tried to be as "dairy-light" as possible. typically i only had some milk with my cereal and a little cream in my coffee. anything more than that and i'd be running for the bathroom. i tried to integrate ice cream in every once in a while (it was summer!) but i always regretted it the next...
  12. this is so true. i used Prometheus Labs. i had to have my blood drawn at one specific hospital lab with a certain work order from my GI. i was in the process of moving at the time and had to plan everything around when i'd be in town and be able to make an appt at that hospital. the only thing i had to pay was my $25 co-pay to have the blood drawn. everything...
  13. i've been making my mac & cheese in the crockpot but it's so time intensive (about 3 hours) so i've been wanting to try an oven baked recipe! yay! and i love that it starts with dry, uncooked macaroni. but i have a question...what kind of pan/dish do you cook this in? I'm thinking a rectangle glass dish, like a pyrex? back in the day, i used...
  14. that's how i thought about it too. my diagnosis came relatively quickly after i initially suspected it but i did suffer for a year of pretty bad joint pain in my hips that no one could figure out. if not for my increasing GI issues, i'd probably still be hobbling around on a couple of bum hips! as other symptoms starting clearing up, i put it all together...
  15. i'm no expert but generally my opinion is, why not get tested? what's it going to hurt? they take some blood (make sure they run a full Celiac panel) and you'll know in a week or two. i say, call your doctor to order that test! many people have a lot of the same symptoms you have. it's important to point out that just because you don't have GI issues...
  16. hello and welcome to the board! it's a good idea for your kids to be tested if you have a positive diagnosis. it's certainly not uncommon for doctors to be less than knowledgeable about Celiac. sometimes you have to give them a little push in the right direction. just don't let them dismiss your concerns. that's when it's time for a new doctor...
  17. i live about an hour south of Montreal, in Plattsburgh. i used to live in the Saratoga/Lake George areas before my BF and i moved north a few months ago. oh and and i went to college in Brockport (just outside Rochester) for a few semesters but it wasn't my cup of tea so i moved back home. give me a shout if you make a trip to the Adirondacks!!
  18. yeah come visit me too and we can have cooking parties! do you happen to live in WAY upstate NY?? seriously though, i know what you mean. Thanksgiving was nothing short of a pain in my butt. cook an entire meal the night before just for me on a very limited budget...not exactly my idea of a good time. (plus, i think i glutened myself somehow -...
  19. ok, i guess i'll have to expand my shopping list next week! can someone elaborate on a rotation diet? is it just as simple as eating a particular food for a few days and then moving onto another? (seems like such a dumb question but i want to make sure i get it!)
  20. i'm on a very limited budget so i have been sticking to the same foods week after week. it's just easier because i know what i can eat and i have learned to budget myself pretty well. aside from being bored to tears with my diet, does it have any (positive or negative) effects on my body? will it promote weight loss or prevent it?
  21. i have a bowl of Rice Chex every morning followed by some coffee. that's been my breakfast nearly every day for 4+ months. i can't afford any of the speciality breakfast foods (Van's waffles are decent but pricey, Against the Grain bagels are great but about $8 for a package of 6) so i just stick with what i know is cheap! i didn't know Berry Berry Kix...
  22. what field of work are you in? was your summer job just for the summer, like an internship or something? it could be just the way that particular company was but not necessarily the norm. i started the diet the week i moved and began working from home. i've now been unemployed for a few months now so i've never had to take my gluten-free lifestyle...
  23. i wonder if they'll take a cue from the world of soap operas and make Izzie "crazy" and have her committed. it could happen if they're going if they keep up this ridiculous "i see dead people" (aka Denny) storyline. ugh. oh and i'm loving Christina and the new doc. she needs someone like him to keep her in line. i was never much of a Burke fan.
  24. i third the withdrawals...i was starting to worry that something major had happened and our beloved board would be down for a long, long time. so glad we're back up and running! life returns to normal...
  25. oh i'm so glad this thread popped back up! i have no one to talk to about Grey's...until now! i love Thursday nights...between Survivor, The Office and Grey's - ah, TV heaven i don't have an issue with a lesbian storyline but i cringed every time i saw Callie and Erica together. i was not sad at all to see b%$@#y Dr. Hahn leave town. i'm not so...
