ARCHIVED Dorms And Celiac Don't Mix
astyanax replied to Howdee08's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
i used to eat lipton powdered chicken soup, canned soups (made in a microwave), nuts, cereal, microwave meals (i didn't know about amy's kitchen back then!), pretty much lots of dry foods that could be microwaved. i was lucky though cos i was only an hour from home so i could go home and eat whenever and my mom would send me back to school with food. outside... -
ARCHIVED Ians Natural Foods
astyanax replied to sweetie101282's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
hey gluten-free nuggets are pretty easy to make.. just make a bread crumb mix (you can buy them, but i also enjoy a gluten-free rice or corn chex type cereal crushed up with some spices), crack an egg and scramble it, cut up the chicken, put some oil in a pan and then dip the chicken into the egg then the bread crumb mix then dump in the pan. you can make... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Smoker
astyanax replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
RIZLA rolling papers are gluten-free. i specifically emailed them about the blue, red and green label kind and they emailed back that there is no gluten in either the gum or the paper. (i use them to roll tobacco, not pot!) i'm not sure if pot would necessarily ever be laced with a wheat product but when it comes to lacing, anything is possible. unfortunately... -
don't forget to make sure the french fries are fried separately from the chicken nuggets

i was there for 4 nights this summer and i had a pretty tough time to be honest. my concierge printed out gluten free information for me in french (which unfortunately for me also included casein for some reason, i don't have trouble with milk but whatever). we went to a restaurant called Scossa, address: 8 pl. Victor Hugo (i happen to have a matchbox so...

maybe people can just ask for them to be lined in foil then? since it's already unlikely wheat would get into food anyway, adding tinfoil might make it definite

hmm i don't eat out often and if i do i never take home leftovers. i never get take out so i can't really think of the last time nor when in the future i'd end up using these. so no big deal to me, although i'm guessing i'm forgetting some part of my life where they are prevalent haha.

sometimes my friends ask me if i want gluten food cos they want me to know they want to share and they don't want me to feel left. i appreciate it, it makes me feel normal if a bunch of people are eating pizza and i can be offered some and decline instead of someone having to make deal out of me having celiac. one thing that really bugs me though is that...

astyanax replied to Alexolua's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
i hate to say this cos i'm sure every single thing can be an allergy but both my mom and my neighbor have severe reactions to garlic, even a small amount, so maybe you should cut that too? -

ARCHIVED My Diet Is Not Like Most Of Yours
astyanax replied to coin-op's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
different things work for different people. i think my quality of life would be much lower if i barely ate any variety in my diet (sorry but yours looks variety free!! heh) and if i never ate out with my friends/family or when travelling. out of curiousity, what fruits and vegetables do you avoid? -
yeah i hate to say it, but in college i just had to make my own food. i barely ate at the dining hall, they promised me gluten-free food and never produced, and in retrospect (i was diagnosed my freshman year) a lot of the food i ate then i never would now. there's too much cross contamination in those kinds of settings (if your dining hall is like mine was...

astyanax replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
does anyone not eat foods that would be considered gluten free by codex standards? like if you knew something definitely had gluten in it but was gluten free by codex standard would you still eat it? i've never avoided anything here or in europe that was labeled gluten-free or had any reactions to the best of my knowledge. -

i think i might have something similar to that. i get little almost invisible bumps, all over my palms and fingers, but only when i go through an extreme change in weather. this summer i went from 60 degree days to 90 degree days very suddenly and sure enough they broke out. then as they disappear my skins becomes very flaky and peels off. they aren't painful...

ARCHIVED College Student Question
astyanax replied to shlomo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
