  1. Your letter to them was fabulous, and I am also impressed with their reply! Good for you!
  2. dksart, the cleaning of the kitchen and the switch to gluten-free would not have happened if I hadn't done it. I did all the shopping, all the cleaning, and all of the planning. I explained cross-contamination, and my husband said he would support me (even though he doesn't like that I have celiac disease and doesn't think it's "fair" for someone asymptomatic...
  3. In an effort to become gluten-free and avoid cross-contamination, I spent all day Tuesday and part of Wednesday of this week "decontaminating" my kitchen. I cleaned out the pantry; got rid of porous & scratched kitchenware; cleaned out the silverware tray; washed pretty much everything; wiped down all my shelving, cupboard doors, knobs, etc. Including...
  4. Wow - some great ideas here! THANKS!
  5. JenPen, the toaster bags might be an answer. I could thoroughly clean out my toaster and then also use the toaster bags. I wonder about the plastic bags leaching chemicals when it's heated, though. Might have to do some research about that.
  6. I am largely asymptomatic, but was diagnosed celiac on June 24. Four days later we left for a 2-week Europe vacation - I wasn't about to make any dietary changes prior to our trip, but now I'm getting my kitchen (and myself) ready to start the gluten-free diet on August 1. After reading advice on this site, I've decided to make my entire kitchen gluten...
  7. Thank you for the recent replies. I have an appointment with a nutritionist scheduled for July 30. In the meantime I am going to read all that I can, clean out my kitchen, and prepare for a start date of August 1. My daughter had her blood drawn today for a Celiac panel. We should get the results early next week. I was thinking, my dad has Barrett...
  8. Thanks Ursa, Cath and gfp for your replies. I ordered a few books last night which should arrive on Thursday, then I'll get started figuring out how to get started. Any suggestions on keeping my kitchen free from cross-contamination? As I said, I have two teenagers (my daughter is willing to get tested but my son refuses. He's going off to college in...
  9. No, I don't have horrible symptoms either. I was diagnosed on June 24 and haven't started the diet yet because I went on vacation 4 days later. Just got back, and am getting ready to start the diet but I'm none too happy about it. I had an endoscopy because of upper stomach pain. I thought I had an ulcer, but got the celiac disease Dx instead. I...
  10. I will also add that I have been hypothyroid for about 10 years. Not sure if that has anything to do with it, but thought I'd throw it out there. Also, I'm 42 years old. Hummingbird4
  11. Hello, I'm Hummingbird4. Here's my story: In April I was having upper stomach pain, and thought I might have an ulcer. My GP suggested I take Prilosec, so I did for 2 weeks. The pain didn't completely go away, so I called a gastroenterologist and scheduled an endoscopy, while continuing to take the Prilosec. By the time of my endoscopy on June 1...
