  1. Coconut milk is GREAT It also makes a pretty convincing substitute for ice cream in a "milk shake" with some frozen fruit. Another thing I've tried is coconut milk in pumpkin pie (minus the crust)... it was actually better than the regular version.
  2. I do have some info... sort of. I had a biopsy for DH and it came back negative. The dermatologist suggested that my rash was "acute dermatitis," which is caused by inflammation somewhere else in the body (gluten and corn cause inflammation in my body, so I still think this is food related!) Anyway... this week I'm going to get a copy of the report...
  3. OK... so your "evidence" is a TIME magazine article about a scientific study that has not yet been peer-reviewed or published. Only seven people were willing to stick with the sugar-free diet and two of them still died. Have the other five people gone into remission? It's probably too early to tell. I'm no statistician, but I have to tell you that this...
  4. I know this is your particular drumbeat... http://junkfoodscience.blogspot.com/2008/0...use-cancer.html I think yolo's suggestions are generally very healthy and consider the well-being of the whole person... physically, mentally, and spiritually. Stress causes autoimmune disorders to flare... freaking out could really set me back
  5. This is good advice I'm already doing some of the things you mentioned... vitamin D (4000iu per day), fish oil, digestive enzymes (plus Betaine HCl)... I'm adding more garlic and dark green vegetables to my diet and I've cut way, WAY back on all processed foods and sugars. I love the sauna... I wish I had time to go more often. What I'm wondering...
  6. There is a connection between celiac disease and lymphoma: https://www.celiac.com/articles/1007/1/Celi...homa/Page1.html Sjogren's Syndrome (an autoimmune disorder that clusters with celiac) also increases your risk of lymphoma. I've been reading about this lately because I've had a painless, swollen lymph node in my neck for more than two months...
  7. I just looked at your other thread... 25 is very young to have such low progesterone! That could definitely explain your infertility (and depression). Two suggestions... 1. Make an appointment with a Reproductive Endocrinologist if you haven't seen one already 2. Get a copy of the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Wechsler... this is...
  8. Overall, your labs look GREAT. You are creating some antibodies in response to gluten, but not enough to cause visible damage... have you tried the gluten-free diet yet? Some thoughts about your other numbers (keeping in mind that I'm not a medical doctor) Progesterone: kind of low... how old are you? Glucose: pretty high for a fasting level...
  9. Another person mentioned this... according the American Red Cross, here's the prevalence of each blood type in the US population: O pos - 38% O neg - 7% A pos - 34% A neg - 6% B pos - 9% B neg - 2% AB pos - 3% AB neg -1% Do celiacs have a higher percentage of any particular blood type? Unfortunately, this poll is not a random sample...
  10. Actually... let me amend that statement about testing. It's very important to get tested for Sjogren's antibodies if you could become pregnant. One of the common antibodies (found in many, but not all patients with Sjogren's) is "lupus anticoagulant" (LA), which can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, or neonatal lupus. Otherwise... you don't need to...
  11. Hi Alia, This is one of the best articles I've found about Sjogren's: Open Original Shared Link IMO, the only reason to get tested for antibodies is if there's a chance you could become pregnant. Otherwise, there's no cure... you just have to manage your symptoms. I'm using prescription eye drops to increase tear production (an opthamologist...
  12. I'm not a medical professional, but IMO it makes sense to pay attention to numbers that are at the high end of "normal" or somewhat out of range. Why wait until you have a crisis on your hands before taking action? Typically, if your lymphocytes are above 46% you have what's called "relative lymphocytosis." This can be caused by: - Being under the age...
  13. Nope! You can definitely leave out the garlic (and onions) if you like. Just heat up the oil for a few minutes and then skip ahead to the vegetables. I also make pizzas with just olive oil instead of sauce. My favorite is to top the crust with bits of bell pepper, black olives (kalamata), mushrooms, and goat cheese. If you add slices of fresh...
  14. Here's a great way to make a tomato-free (and dairy-free) pasta dish: 1. Saute 3-4 minced cloves of garlic in a generous amount of olive oil 2. Add bite-sized pieces of other vegetables (zucchini, bell peppers, mushrooms, fennel, kale, eggplant, green beans, cauliflower, carrots, etc...) and cook until tender [note - it helps to put the hardest vegetables...
  15. Makes sense to me... I started taking small doses of caprylic acid (I'm starting the SCD next week) and I had quite the herx reaction! Swollen lymph nodes, chills, nasty headache... like the flu, except I didn't have a fever. Interesting to know that candida absorbs mercury and probiotics convert it into the more dangerous methylmercury. I'm really stuck...
  16. Yeah... I still think my rash is food-related too. Gluten and corn cause terrible inflammation in my body! I know I also have candida overgrowth... put the two problems together and WHAM. I have been VERY careful with food for the last three weeks. The only thing I've had at a restaurant is a cup of soy chai (which felt so risky!)... the rash is no...
  17. Well... I got my biopsy results today. The dermatologist says it's not DH, it's "acute dermatitis." Here's one definition I found when I googled it... "An itchy rash that occurs in response to an intense inflammatory process somewhere else on the body, especially fungal infections." I want to get a copy of the pathologist's report, but this does...
  18. Sjogren's syndrome can also cause blepharitis, eye inflammation, and constipation... it can dry out everything in your body (eyes, mouth, nose, lungs, skin, genitals, digestive system, etc...). This is a good place to start for more information: Open Original Shared Link
  19. Hi MacKenzie, Pregnancy was definitely the trigger that sent my autoimmune problems into overdrive. I think they were always there to some degree, but after my daughter was born in April 2005 I went through a bout of (undiagnosed) postpartum thyroiditis. I got pregnant again in August 2006 and sadly, that ended in a loss at 17 weeks, followed by a...
  20. You need a new dermatologist! There are lots of rashes that look like DH and even a few that can be caused by gluten consumption (like keratosis pilaris and dyshidrotic eczema). You really need the biopsy to make a distinction. The Dapsone thing is just ridiculous. It's like saying to someone with migraine headaches... "Well, I don't want to give you...
  21. Good question, but yeah... I have tried that. He'll probably get used to it after a while though The first time I made whole wheat pasta he hated it. Now he thinks it's just fine.
  22. For me, the silver lining is that my diet is a LOT better without gluten, dairy, and corn. I think about everything that goes into my body before I eat it... how many people can say that? I always liked fruits and vegetables, but these days a lot more of my food dollars are going to local and organic farmers intead of the corporate factories that make processed...
  23. I sometimes make regular pasta for my husband while I'm making gluten-free pasta for myself. I wouldn't worry about the steam (splashing might be a concern), because steam is 100% pure water... but I would be VERY cautious about the spoons. Keep them on separate plates on different sides of the stove! It would be so easy to forget and contaminate your...
  24. Welcome to the group! I'm also waiting on biopsy results for DH, but from what I've read the only debilitating symptom is severe itching. Are you sure you don't have something like scleroderma instead? Open Original Shared Link Scleroderma is also an autoimmune disorder, so it's very possible that a gluten-free diet could help (whether or not your...
  25. Were you officially diagnosed with DH through a biopsy? My understanding is that the only treatment that works is Dapsone and a gluten-free diet.
