  1. Wikipedia is actually a great place to start... Open Original Shared Link The only "non-celiac" DQ alpha allele that starts with *05 belongs to one of the DQ7 subtypes... so I was right on! Take a look at DQ7.5 on the DQ7 page: Open Original Shared Link I'm also a DQ7 (DQ8 is my other gene)... there are lots of DQ7s on this forum.
  2. Wow... that really is confusing. Your diet looks quite good, although with malabsorption it's possible that you still have some vitamin and mineral deficiencies. One place you might try for help is this: Open Original Shared Link
  3. Since your TSH is well within range and you're negative for thyroid antibodies, but your free T3 is below normal... I would say your pituitary gland is not stimulating your thyroid enough. The MRI might help. A visit to a good endocrinologist might help too. The adrenal-pituitary-thyroid cortex regulates your reproductive hormones, so that could explain...
  4. Ahhhh.... yes. I looked at some websites and DE fits my symptoms better than anything I've seen before. Thank you for that suggestion!! My first outbreak was not too bad. Just a few blisters on my hands. This time it's also on my palms and my feet I took a couple of CC risks and now it looks like I'm paying the price. I'm trying not to scratch...
  5. That is SO heartbreaking. I pray that Dan and his beautiful new son will eventually find peace and acceptance. I know it will take a lot of soul-searching.
  6. OK... so the tiny red bumps on my hands started drying up about a week after I got glutened (on Thanksgiving ). I got glutened again on Monday (darn holidays!!) and the bumps are back... only this time, I'm also using some new shampoos that my dermatologist prescribed for yeast overgrowth on my scalp. My scalp is fine (I don't think the shampoos...
  7. Welcome to the group! I assume you don't have DQ2 or DQ8... do you know what genes you have? I suspect DQ7, which is associated with gluten intolerance, casein (milk protein) intolerance, grass and pollen allergies, and something called "oral allergy syndrome." What happens is that your immune system can confuse pollens (birch, ragweed, etc...) with...
  8. 400iu of vitamin D is better than nothing, but that's just the RDA (which really needs to be revised). You need at least 2,000iu per day to raise your blood levels... depending on your weight you could take even more. Anything under 10,000iu is considered safe for long-term use. Check out this website: Open Original Shared Link I'm glad...
  9. My hair is also very dark brown and turning gray around my face I'm only 32.
  10. Autoimmune hypothyroidism is one of the disorders that clusters with celiac disease (which is also an autoimmune disorder). I would be very surprised if levothyroxine contains iodine... in someone with Hashimoto's disease (autoimmune hypothyroidism) it can actually make things worse. It seems like a celiac panel would be a good idea too. If DH is confirmed...
  11. Corn seems to be a common IgG allergen (just like gluten, dairy, and soy)... probably because it's difficult for the body to digest. The corn we eat today is very different from the original plant. It's also one of the most heavily genetically-modified foods I'm checking into the candida thing too... I'm planning to try the SCD starting in January. ...
  12. Lyme and celiac are great ideas to check out. Even if the celiac test comes back negative, you might want to give the gluten-free diet a try to see how you feel. It can't hurt anything. Also... what about anemia? Deficiencies (iron, B-12, vitamin D, magnesium, etc...) are common in people with malabsorption problems and can definitely cause fatigue...
  13. The point of Betaine HCl is not the beets... it's the acid. Even if you could, you wouldn't want to sprinkle it on your food! Over time the acid would do horrible damage to your teeth. 250mg tablets are good to start with... take one with a meal and see how you feel. If you don't get any heartburn or reflux you might be able to take two tablets.
  14. DH = dear husband (unless you're talking about dermatitis herpitformis) DD = dear daughter
  15. I had another thought about the genetic issue... How about if we compare celiac disease to breast cancer for a moment? Like celiac, there is a gene that increases your risk of developing breast cancer (BRCA1). However, not everyone who has this gene gets breast cancer... and not everyone who gets breast cancer has the gene. There are lots of other...
  16. That's wonderful news! Even a few days of breastfeeding is much better than nothing. And if you can go longer... so much the better. I hope your baby has a beautiful and uncomplicated birth!
  17. Hi Amber, I'm sorry that you're feeling so bad! DQ7 is associated with gluten intolerance, casein intolerance, and grass/pollen allergies... Is there anything you started eating a lot more of when you went gluten-free? I noticed in your signature that you went soy-free 30 years ago... what about corn? You could also try things like dairy, nuts...
  18. All right... I thought of one. Gluten-free, dairy-free croissants. I am a croissant SNOB I haven't even dared to try the gluten-free breads because I just can't imagine they're going to be anything like the original. Croissants are the ultimate in gluteny goodness. So light and flaky. And with chocolate in the middle... Ohhhh... and baklava...
  19. I'm sorry to welcome you to this club! Like you, my halo nevi also started appearing after a traumatic event... losing a baby when I was 17 weeks pregnant and then going into a severe depression Hormonal changes and stress are common triggers for autoimmune disorders. I'm also a normal weight, don't drink, don't smoke, have a healthy diet... I...
  20. I agree about the lunch meat... scary stuff By the way... a glutening doesn't "restart" the process. Unless you have a perfectly gluten-free kitchen, never eat out, and never bring any CC food into your house, you're bound to get some gluten once in a while. Depending on how sensitive you are, you might notice the damage (I've started getting a rash...
  21. Hi Alexis, It sounds like you're asking a hypothetical question... but actually, you can already get just about anything you want in a gluten-free version. Chocolate cake, pizza crust, pasta... in some places there are even gluten-free bakeries for bread, pastries, etc... I've never ordered anything online. Some gluten-free processed foods are...
  22. A few thoughts for you... Rosacea is sometimes called "adult acne," but it's not the same thing. Acne is caused by oil and bacteria. Rosacea is caused by inflammation. I also have rosacea... the good news is that since I stopped eating gluten, dairy, and corn it's getting a LOT better. Rosacea can also affect your eyes (it's called "ocular rosacea...
  23. If you really want to add some high-quality calories, forget about the carbs... go for the healthy fats! Avocado, coconut, fatty fish, nuts, seeds, etc...
  24. You could be one of those rare people that has celiac disease without DQ2 or DQ8... check out the profile of ravenwoodglass. Also... you don't need to have celiac disease to have problems with malabsorption. Look at some websites about Chron's, for example. That's another autoimmune disorder that affects the intestines and interferes with proper...
  25. It's true that ttG (tissue transglutaminase) is more specific for celiac disease than anti-gliaden. BUT... make no mistake about it. Your immune system is definitely reacting to gluten. If you keep eating it your numbers will continue to rise and eventually go out of normal range. Or... you could stop now and save yourself from a lot of nasty complications...
