That's a very good point, celiac3270. Better to be sick for a week over getting glutened than dead.

I have heart problems, a pacemaker, and celiac. Gee.....ya' think I need to get one???

Well....thanks for bursting my bubble!! And I thought I was keeping this weight on because I was now healthy. Heehee.....not really, I know it's not true. But in everyone else's eyes, it is! As long as I don't start to look rail thin again, people generally leave me alone about my weight. Well, I know carrot juice has lots of natural sugar. So I am...

I can't do dairy, with the exception of a little bit of mild cheddar cheese. Hardly enough to equal much carbs. With the gastroparesis, I can't hardly get over a thousand calories a day anyway. I have no idea how I'm not dropping weight. But I'm not. I'm steady. Not dropping, not gaining. I can't do fruit juices at all. Anything acidic is a BIG problem...

ARCHIVED Drug For Celiac/type 1 Dia. Being Tested On Humans

Call me blonde, but I don't get it. What's the drug? How does it "work"? I didn't see anything in the article that explained anything, other than they were starting the testing. I'm not blonde by the way. -
I have a question about SCD and carbs. I weigh around 117, and am 5'3" tall. How many carbs a day do you think I am suppose to have? I need to know so that I can determine how much carrot juice to drink if I start the SCD back up. It's the only carb I can tolerate. I would basically be eating all sorts of different meats, plus the carrot juice, and possible...

Yep. All those nut butters are really fattening. I can't tolerate the almond flour either. Too bad, cuz I think they're yummy! ~Brenda

Stephanie, When my doc tested my estrogen/progesterone, he found that my estrogen was a bit low, and my progesterone was TEN TIMES higher than it should be. So maybe there's something weird going on there...it's probably due to the polycystic ovarian disease....which is linked to insulin resistance. I know there's a link. I just don't know what to...

Anybody know if Kava is gluten-free? By the ingredients, it seems to be, but ya' never know. It's the instant coffee that has the acid removed. ~Brenda

Stephanie, I am going to order some more test strips, because I want to see what the readings are when I "think" my blood sugar is too high. I really do think I fluctuate, and it all depends on where I am in my cycle. The closer I get to my period, the more I struggle with the high end. After my period, I feel like I battle the low, until I start ovulating...

Brenda, since you are not taking any medication to lower blood sugar, the low readings you see should be a clear sign that you do NOT have diabetes. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I didn't buy the gummy vites, but I got some called Yummi Bears today at my HFS. They're really yummy and seem to agree with me. The only problem is that they don't have much calcium/magnesium. Those are two that I really need, so I guess I'll try and get that some other way. Anybody know if the Gummy Vites has the cal/mag? I'll sure look at the Boost...

Gosh, I don't even remember how long I tried it. I think it was only a couple of weeks. I had low energy even when I started. So for it to stoop so much lower just made life impossible. But, like I said, I may start trying again with having the veggie juice as my carbs. Sorry about the "panty" comment, guys. Guess I had a little built up bitterness...

No...I know they're not too high. I definitely felt a low all day. I never did get in the 90's today with my readings. That's what I thought was odd. The reading that was two hours after I ate (the 69) should have been a lot higher, shouldn't it? I found it odd that I dropped so much lower when it should have been higher. Keep in mind, that since I...

Thanks for the link, Stephanie. I'll be sure to check it out, because I'm already almost out of strips. I only had ten, and messed up a few times. :-( This morning, my fasting blood sugar was 82. Not bad, eh? But then, I ate breakfast, and I usually feel junky about an hour after I eat breakfast, so....I tested it, and it was only an 89. I thought I would...

Well, that's kinda my point though. I'm not able to eat healthy, because I can't tolerate the fruits and veggies. Hence the possible need for some type of supplemental nutrients. ~Brenda

LOL, Peter! I don't like wading through all the poltically correct jargon either. No offense to those of you that do. Anyway, I think it was only about 20 minutes after I ate...and I didn't eat all that much. But I never do, nor can I with the gastroparesis. It seems like I eat all the time, all throughout the day. I don't really have much of a set...

Hi, I wasn't able to read all of the pages on this thread, but I'm very familiar with SCD and have tried it before. I ran into the problem of not getting enough carbs. I can't handle ANY fruits or veggies, and honey makes me feel like I'm going to die...I even run a high fever when I eat it. So....I can't survive on meat and eggs. I gotta have some carbs...

Ok, I'm back from Walgreens. Guess what???? I got a Free Style model for only ten bucks!!! They were having a MAJOR sale!!! Yeah for me!!! They had another model for free, if you bought the strips....eek! I had no idea how expensive strips are!! So for now, I just have the strips that come with the unit itself. I tested twice now (first one didn't work...

Ok, Here's what I'm gonna do.... I had told Peter in an email that I was just going to call the doc, because I didn't have the $$ to go out and get the meter, etc. But....then I remembered that my insurance doesn't even pay for that doc anymore (I will still go to him on occasion, but that would be more $$ than just getting the strips). So....I...

Nope....nothing new at all. ~Brenda

Oh my goodness, Stephanie!!! I had no idea you could go out and buy that!! Are they really accurate? Has anyone else done this?? No need for me to keep a journal. I eat the same things every day! So they give you enough materials to test that much? Every 15 - 30 minutes is a lot. I am definitely a do it yourself person, especially since money is LOW...

Great!!! I will check next time I'm at WM. I wanna gummi bear!!!! ~Brenda

Uhhh...by "lost" an ovary, I mean that it was taken out surgically. HAHA!! That is what she says...."I lost an ovary"....so I was just relaying that. ~Brenda

Yeah....and I have mentioned the dry mouth feeling/guzzling water thing to a lot of docs and none of them even blinked. UGH!!! Well...I have a doctor in my old home town that I KNOW will test me. And I am going over there (it's six hours away) in October. So I will have him test me then....unless you guys think it's more urgent than that. Otherwise, I could...
