  1. Greetings! I am a career military person living with celiac. I'm in the Air Force but I can still share my story. I met a medical board after being diagnosed. They "C" coded me saying I can deploy however, the deployed location commander has to approve. Also, I can only deploy to locations with a fixed medical facility. That being said, I've talked...
  2. Hi Daniella, i've been trying to get a hold of you but i'm not sure how. I have a website that i use and i can find any military members email address. i looked you up and was certain that i found you so i sent an email but i never heard back. Did i email the right person? I'm in a similar situation and would like to talk to you.

  3. I LOVE the Arrowmills Rise n Shine breakfast (you can do the same thing with cream of rice cereal). I add a little brown sugar, slivered almonds and some type of frozen berries. It take about 5 mintues to prepare and it keeps me full all morning. Healthy and yummy!
  4. I got glutened over the weekend at my boss's BBQ (he promised me the hamburger meat was gluten free. Should have known better). I didn't feel the effects until the next day. Now it's going on Wednesday and I'm still sick. Before I went gluten-free I would feel the effects within a few hours. Now, it takes a day and lasts for at least 4 days.
  5. I love Jesus too! I went many years without relying on him. After being diagnosed with celiac and having other life issues I began to turn to him. It's been a long road but I'm getting back on track. Praise God!
  6. I am sitting here eating a gluten free chocolate chip cookie from Betty Crocker. These cookies are amazing! I will make the bronwies this weekend.
  7. I lost weight. I'm 5'2" and weighed 113lbs before going gluten free. I'm now 105 lbs. I am desperately trying to gain some weight back. I'm getting to skinny.
  8. I will keep you in my thoughts because I know exactly how you feel. I will have another medical board in a few months. This is going to be an annual occurance. I will be on pins and needles every year trying to keep my career in tact also. Please keep us informed with your status. Like I said before let me know if you want to chat. I'll give you my military...
  9. Hi! I am a diagnosed celiac in the Air Force. I was diagnosed about 7 months ago and went to a medical board to decide my fate. The Air Force decided to keep me in the military however, I am no longer able to deploy to war zones. That doesn't mean I can't deploy at all, it means I have to be more careful about the places they send me. I've been in...

    ARCHIVED Doc In Kansas City?

Greetings! I just recently moved to the Kansas City area. Can anybody recommend a good celiac doctor? Thanks!
  12. This is a good question. I had a celiac panel done 3 months after diangoses. I just received the results back and they said everything is within normal ranges. Is that normal to be within normal ranges so soon?
  13. I just got diagnosed 2 months ago so I'm very ignorant when it comes to vitamin supplements. How did you all know which vitamins to take?
  14. Hello! Johnsoniu gave you great info. I second all the information given. I would start off by weight training 3-4 days a week. Routating the exercises every 6 weeks. When I first started weight training I found a good friend to show me the ropes. After that I learned everything through reading and the internet. I would also eat 1 gram of...
  15. Hello! I understand your frustrations. Before I got diagnosed I played softball for my military team, ran half marathons, lifted 4 days a week and was thinking about doing a figure competition. This was with all my physical celiac issues (my symptoms aren't as severe as yours though). It was not without having to skip a few games and some runs. Let...
  16. Hello everyone! I have been gluten free for 2 months now. I am suffering from a cold for the first time since going gluten-free. Does anybody know which cold meds are gluten-free? Thanks!
  17. I'm currently in the Air Force and I can tell you to talk with a recruiter before you get your hopes dashed. Also, going into the military you will probably need to be deployable initially. Deploying with celiac will certainly be difficult and a huge issue. It's not like you can eat MRE's while out in the field. Good Luck! It's a great profession and...
  18. Hello! I wear Bare Minerals. I also contacted them when I was first diagnosed and they said their foundations and such are gluten free.
  19. Hello! I'm new to this celiac thing too. Tomorrow will be my 1 month anniversary. What an excellent question. I'm having the same problem. When I try to descibe my situation people either shut down or don't care. One of my co-workers yesterday asked me if I was still on the diet. UMMM YES! FOREVER! I've sort of decided not to mention it until...
