ARCHIVED Could Inheritance From Both Sides Of Family Affect Blood Test?Tallforagirl replied to Pegleg84's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms With the symptoms and all those relatives with celiac disease, I'd be pushing for a biopsy regardless of the blood test result. Did they do the full panel including total IGA? If you're IGA deficient this will affect some of the other tests. I've never heard of genes affecting blood test results. The blood tests look for antibodies, both to gliadin (the...

The genetic test for celiac disease will tell you whether you have the genetic markers that give you the potential to develop celiac disease. The test can rule out the disease, as you can't develop celiac disease if you don't have the right genetic markers for it. However, the genetic test can't confirm that you have celiac disease, as it's possible...

ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed - How Long To Stay Off Dairy?Tallforagirl replied to nw0528's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Well, sort of. The culprit is actually lactose, which is present in some, but not all dairy produce. Things like yoghurt and hard cheese are usually fine. The reason many Celiacs are lactose intolerant when first diagnosed is because the substance our body makes to digest the protein in lactose - lactase, is secreted from the tips of our villi, therefore...

ARCHIVED 95% Gluten Free Any Good?Tallforagirl replied to UnhappyCoeliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I second this. This is the primary reason why it's important to be in control of your diet 100 per cent of the time when you can control it. There will be times, for instance in restaurants or at a friends house, when no matter how hard you try to let peoplw know your needs, you are not in ultimate control, and you will get glutened, so in order to minimise...

ARCHIVED I Feel Like I'm On Mystery DiagnosisTallforagirl replied to fripp017's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Oh, that's something I didn't realise. What is the stool test from Enterolab that people keep referring to? And, thanks, I forgot to list the total IGA test, and that's important to validate the other IGA-based tests.

...however, most people who have been through an official diagnosis of celiac disease have had one, and this is the only instance I've heard of someone suffering permanent damage from one. You could have celiac disease and have something else going on as well, it's not impossible, or it may not be celiac disease and could be something else entirely,...

ARCHIVED I Feel Like I'm On Mystery DiagnosisTallforagirl replied to fripp017's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I think you'll find there are plenty of people on this forum who have had a frustrating time with their doctor trying to figure out what's wrong. At least you are finally getting the blood test, so hopefully that will confirm the diagnosis for you. I'm suprised they did a stool stample rather than the blood test first off. I know some people opt for...

RiceGuy, I would debate this, I for one don't ingest any of my shampoo. While I use it it is in my hair only, once it is rinsed it is down the plughole. Sorry, but it annoys me when people on this forum refer to "us", as in the Celiac Community, when we're all individuals and cannot all be said to behave or react the same way to something, just because...

ARCHIVED New Here - Anyone Had An Experience Like Mine?Tallforagirl replied to JPercy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Has a full blood count been done to check for anaemia? "Anemia goes undetected in many people, and symptoms can be small and vague. Most commonly, people with anemia report a feeling of weakness or fatigue in general or during exercise, general malaise and sometimes poor concentration. People with more severe anemia often report dyspnea (shortness of...

ARCHIVED Need Help Please-very High Anti Ttg False BiopsyTallforagirl replied to mikewtf's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I've had no neurological issues. My main issues were nausea and fatigue (like jet lag some days). The fatigue is still ongoing, but gradually improving.

ARCHIVED B12 And CeliacsTallforagirl replied to I hate gluten's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease It's not the most common vitamin deficiency amongst celiacs, but mine was on the low end of normal.

ARCHIVED Hot Chips? Whats The StoryTallforagirl replied to UnhappyCoeliac's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications Potato chips are my last resort in a bind (I mean the ones in a packet). As long as they're plain salted ones they're usually okay, most of the other flavours have wheat or gluten. Plain or salted nuts should be okay too (check ingredient panel). And mini Babybel, they're good as a savoury snack. A good clue as to whether hot chips will be okay is to check...

ARCHIVED Need Help Please-very High Anti Ttg False BiopsyTallforagirl replied to mikewtf's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I have a lot in common with you. When I was diagnosed with celiac disease four months ago my tTG was >200, then I had it measured again after just over three months gluten-free and it was down, but still very high (132). Advice from my doctor (and other reading I have done) is that it can take quite some time to normalise. When I was first tested for...

ARCHIVED How Long Till Intestine RecoversTallforagirl replied to UnhappyCoeliac's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Yeah, I also had to stop fitness training, and have only just started to get back into it after about 4 months off. I just didn't feel like I had an ounce of extra energy to spare, like all my energy was used up just doing basic daily tasks. I have found myself in the bathroom at work, in a cubicle, trying to take a nap in there on some days, that is how...

ARCHIVED Reactions To Cooking GlutenTallforagirl replied to bjn555's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I don't see how you could have ingested the gluten when you weren't even in the same room. Perhaps it was from CC earlier in the day (if there are gluten eaters in the house this is always a possibility). I think it's more likely that you are making yourself disproportionately anxious just by worrying that you may get glutened. Your mind can do funny...

ARCHIVED How Long Till Intestine RecoversTallforagirl replied to UnhappyCoeliac's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease I only just started feeling better after four months gluten-free. I had fatigue and nausea up until about two weeks ago. Nausea is now gone, fatigue still improving but gradually. At times I have felt disheartened because it seems like when I read reports about other peoples experiences, they usually said that they felt better almost overnight. Now...

ARCHIVED Nausea And Glutening QuestionTallforagirl replied to hadabaday2day's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I had almost constant nausea starting from September last year. I was diagnosed with celiac disease in October, but the nausea (and fatigue) continued and has only improved in the last week or so. I was convinced that I must have some sort of gastric bug but have been tested for everything under the sun, and there's nothing else wrong with me. My blood...

ARCHIVED Getting Family On Board With Gluten Free DietTallforagirl replied to rayandme's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease If the thread had been about small children with celiac disease, yes, I'd agree there are extra things to worry about that they may put in their mouth, but but we're talking about a grown woman here. I don't think she's gonna eat dogfood or art supplies. If you're not going to ingest it, and you don't have a topical reaction to it on your skin, then why...

ARCHIVED Getting Family On Board With Gluten Free DietTallforagirl replied to rayandme's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Personally (and backed by expert advice I have read), I think you only need to worry about the things you are going to ingest. IMO this does not include: - tape - art supplies - bandaids - lotions - any product you use for acne etc. - soaps - shampoos & conditioners - detergents - dog food - tissues with lotion in them - hand sanitiser Some...

I've used buckwheat flour for dredging fish/meat to pan-fry, but I don't think for that purpose it matters too much what type of gluten-free flour you use. Baking cakes and bread is where the type or mix of flour matters, at least that's my understanding. I've also used white rice crumbs for crumbing fish and meat which I actually like better than breadcrumbs...

ARCHIVED My Understnding Of Tests - Thoughts?Tallforagirl replied to pgrovetom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms What were the ranges for your tests? What was your total IGA? They should have tested your total IGA, and if it was low, this invalidates the tTG IGA. If you just have an allergy, it wouldn't cause damage to your intestine, so most likely any tTG test would be negative. As you were "gluten lite" before the tests, this may affect the results too, although...

ARCHIVED Confusing Lab ResultsTallforagirl replied to roshimaximom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs The tTG is the one that counts as far as diagnostic accuracy, and being positive it seems there's a good chance it's celiac disease. The endoscopy and biopsy is a very straightforward and quick procedure, as it's performed under sedation. He won't feel a thing.
