ARCHIVED Tips For Eating While Flying?
tgrahek replied to AKcollegestudent's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Pick up a packet or two of Tyson chicken. Bring along Minute Rice and chicken broth packets. You have the makings of a really good dinner that you can make even on the plane. We request a cup of hot water, add some rice and cover it for several minutes. Then add the broth and voila. We like the broth packets at Trader Joe's, if you have one near you... -
ARCHIVED Camping Food- What Kind Of Protein?
tgrahek replied to munchkinette's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
We camp up in the Boundary Waters near Canada where there are plenty of bears. We use packets of chicken and make meals like chicken tacos and chicken and rice. We also make grilled peanut butter sandwiches on Udi's bread and eat Gluten Freeda's gluten-free oatmeal packets for breakfast. We wrap the garbage up well and hang it from a tree in a 5 gallon paint... -
ARCHIVED New Orleans Help Needed, Quick! Gluten-Free Dining.
tgrahek replied to Lynayah's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
We were in New Orleans for a week in June and it was one of our more difficult trips for eating. We did find a few places: Bubba Gumps 429 Decatur Street- I realize it's a chain and that is usually off limits for us when we travel but after being given blank stares at several restaurants, and being so hungry, we were thrilled when Bubba Gumps not only... -

I haven't been to Italy yet but hope to go next summer. I found this book that I plan on ordering, maybe it will help you. Open Original Shared Link Good luck! -
That was beautiful! Thanks for sharing. We had a similar experience in Spain, there was nobody that served us in any restaurant that didn't know what Celiac meant. It was so discouraging the first time we ate out in an American restaurant after our return. I got that blank stare back from the server and felt like I could cry. It seems as though traveling...

ARCHIVED New Celiac And Have To Travel!
tgrahek replied to Frances03's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I am so sorry that you are having such a rough time! Taco Bell's red sauce does not have wheat, according to their website. We often get tostadas and pintos and cheese. Of course cross contamination is always a concern. In a pinch, we also get Arby's roast beef, no bun. It's very filling. You should put some lunch meat in your cooler. We carry mustard... -

Wow that is a big trip! Should be lots of fun. I am in Minnesota and I doubt you will be passing through so I can't help specifically. We do lots of road trips so I am familiar with which restaurants to watch for on the blue signs at the side of the road (example at Open Original Shared Link. For fast food you can stop at Wendy's (chili, baked potato...

Chicken packets (available in grocery stores in the tuna section) are good with crackers. Bring a few packets of mayo. Minute rice cooks up nicely with the hot water from the coffee pot. You can get broth packets (I get mine at Trader Joe's) to add to the rice for flavor. My kids like Spam in the single serve pouches but I know that is an aquired taste...

I made this cake last night and it was delicious!! Good enough to serve to guests who are not gluten-free. My 15 year old ate 3 pieces and she usually snubs her nose at anything gluten-free. Thanks for the recipe- it is a keeper! PS I used Bette's Gourmet Featherlite Rice Flour Blend which I keep in our flour canister so it came together quickly with...

ARCHIVED Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin
tgrahek replied to mcarbone's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
We love The Cheese Factory and eat there whenever we can. They do have odd hours so make sure you check before you go. When we are eating at a restaurant that we aren't sure about with our daughter, I always have a Spam single pack in my purse. If we don't need it, then we have it for another time. We can order steamed veggies or fruit and she can have... -
Sadly, Casamento's closes for the summer so we will miss it. Deep fried seafood would have been fantastic!! I only got responses back from a few restaurants so that is disappointing. I did find out from Lucky Dog that there hot dogs and chili are both gluten-free. They scanned the ingredients right off the boxes for me. We will try Landry's Seafood for...

I am planning a family trip to New Orleans next month with my 3 kids, 2 of whom cannot eat gluten, milk, or soy. I sent an email to our hotel (New Oleans Marriott) and this is the response that I got. I should mention that in my email I only asked them to check their bacon and sausage to make breakfast easier when we arrived. I was so happy when I read...

We are coming from Minneapolis and travel to Illinois and Indiana fairly regularly so I'd love to get some regular places to stop. This is our first trip since dx in March. -
ARCHIVED Driving Through Madison, Anywhere To Eat Off I90?
tgrahek posted a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I have found a good list of restaurants in the Madison area but can anyone tell me if any of them are off Interstate 90? We will just be passing through on our way to Illinois and it seems like this is a good place to stop for lunch. Here are some of the suggestions: My Triumph dining guide lists: Biaggi's Ristorante Italiano Bunky's Cafe Chautara...
