  1. Me, too, Alia. Except it was for my Narcolepsy. I saw soooo many doctors when I was 21 and I was almost always treated badly. I still am to this day, especially because I discovered gluten triggers most of my neurological problems and they still don't believe me. No, make that: now they really don't believe me. And this is despite the scientific evidence...
  2. Just wanted to post the results: I did not get sick from the Tabasco pickles.
  3. It makes me feel funny and puts me to sleep. I can't eat it but it's not a gluten thing. This always surprises people because everyone thinks rice is the ultimate hypoallergenic food and it's impossible to be allergic to it. It's just not true. The only grain I've successfully eaten without any problems (so far) is sorghum.
  4. The tiniest crumb of a sub-ingredient of an ingredient that contains gluten makes me sick and causes all sorts of neurological problems for me.
  5. OMG it was HOT! My mouth was soooo on fire. I am not one of those that likes super spicy foods. I'm too Irish, I guess. But my boyfriend thinks they're pretty good. lol Progress report: not sick yet. fingers crossed but it's still too early to tell.
  6. We got Vlasic pickles yesterday and I went to the fridge just now and got one. Two bites into it my mouth was on fire. I didn't read the label carefully and my boyfriend had purchased the Tabasco flavored spears by mistake! The Vlasic website just says Vlasic pickles are gluten-free. But does that mean ALL flavors? This kind has "spices" in it. Anyone...
  7. I like: Sake Wine (my favorite is a brand called Casarsa. It's Italian and very affordable.) Capt. Morgan Spiced Rum (in silk soy nog...yum!) potato vodka DO NOT drink irish cream. I made that mistake last week with O'Mara's, and I'm just now recovering. My boyfriend and I were big on single malt scotch over the past few years but...
  8. Not every Celiac has desperately dire reactions to gluten with bleeding intestines and pain so bad they want to die. Some Celiacs are asymptomatic. Your doctor is not too bright...the only way she'd know for sure is by doing a blood test and an intestinal biopsy. I'm amazed at how many stereotypes doctors strictly follow when it comes to Celiac. "You...
  9. Well, I know that the shelves are set up by reset crews that work for companies that are subcontracted by the chains (my partner does this for a living,) however, every Safeway in my town has a completely different setup. Some grocery stores in my town do a dedicated gluten-free section far away from the regular baking goods. Others mix it together. I...
  10. Thanks everyone. This makes me feel better.
  11. Sleep docs know NOTHING about celiac & sleep. But I can tell you I have Narcolepsy and I can be med-free when I'm gluten free. They're totally related. You WILL feel better as you heal. So, don't expect a lot from your sleep doc, but keep going with the gluten-free diet. It will help you a lot. I have a blog about food & sleep that you can...
  12. I agree...if your college has a website you can log into to access your grades, you can print an unofficial copy yourself. However, if you request an official copy, it might cost you money depending on how fast you want it shipped. Some colleges charge no matter what and don't offer overnight, other colleges will send it for free and only charge you for...
  13. Believe me when I say aspartame F's me up something awful! OMG it screws up my sleep so bad it's not even funny. It's definitely one of my "brain poisons" so don't you even think twice about avoiding it! If your "friend" doesn't understand, then that's his/her problem. Not yours.
  14. I was accidentally glutened on Wednesday night. I started getting acne on my face on Friday, which I know is from the gluten. Now on Sunday my right pinky is breaking out in little itchy water blisters. Again. It itches, I scratch, then it takes a week or more for the skin to heal. This happens a few days after I get glutened but it's relatively new...
  15. I was at my local Safeway this evening and noticed that they put the gluten free flours (in paper sacs) on the same shelves as the whole wheat "organic" flours (in paper sacs.) Is this safe??? What if both bags have holes and they mix? That would be deadly to me (well, not literally but pretty close!) Has anyone had experience with this? Should I contact...
  16. Well I got a couple of boxes last month that I desperately need to apply, so I'll try it this weekend and let you know how it goes.
  17. This happens to me, too, but it's Cataplexy from Narcolepsy. I think the gluten actually caused my Narcolepsy. When I eat it, I fall down spontaneously for 3 days. (I also become paralyzed form laughing at jokes, but it has nothing to do with food.) What paralyzes you?
  18. I've used Light Mountain for years with no problem at all. I add lots of honey (about 1/4 cup) to enhance the red color (it darkens it a bit) and make the protein stick to my hair better. It's super bright when I first do it, then the copper color fades and leaves a lovely natural looking red. I've never tried egg. Maybe next time try honey instead....
  19. Yes I do this too. I also bring my BlackBerry to the store with me so I can Google things on the fly. I usually end up at this forum every time. lol It's been a huge help! I just enter "[name of brand or product] gluten" and let 'er rip! It's great.
  20. Oh sorry! It was Safeway brand Salt Free Garlic & Herb Seasoning. It made me very very sick so I know it has a lot of gluten in it. But it's not listed anywhere on the label.
  21. Occipital migraines? I get visual disturbances too, and sometimes when I read, the center of my vision disappears (not just a dark hole...completely gone). My doctor said it's occipital migraines but without pain. I dunno, worth a guess.
  22. Yeah I did. My brother and niece were diagnosed w/biopsy in 1999 so I had a blood test. It was negative (as in, the results fell within the acceptable range. I don't know if I had any antibodies or no antibodies.) Just a couple years before, I had developed Narcolepsy. In 2002 I discovered that avoiding grains and sugars almost eliminated my symptoms...
  23. Oh my gosh me too. And they itch. They happen on the tops of my fingers, mostly on my pinky between the 2nd and 3rd knuckle, or on the top of my thumb in sort of the same place. Sometimes it swells up like a red welt with water blisters on the top. Like a raised coin on my finger. And I scratch and scratch ... I can't help it! Then I have dry peeling...
  24. I have naturally light brown hair, but I use henna to make it a lovely auburn. I add lots of honey to make it a nice autumn leaf color. I call it "burnt pumpkin".
  25. But that can't be true. Because I ate some Safeway seasoning that made me super sick and it didn't say "wheat" on it, but it did have "spices" in it and when I called they said it contained gluten. You can't get away from the hidden gluten in labeling where it's used as a thickener or binding agent. They should be required to specifically cite "gluten...
