  1. I'm going to be trying out protein shakes soon. I bought a sample of a Biochem Sports chocolate fudge flavor and mixed it with milk and didn't like it much. If I can find one I like that mixes easily, it'll be easier for me to stick with it and watch for results. I'm a 100-lb weakling, but I've been this way all my life. I have only had celiac disease for...
  2. I've been stalking my local grocers for these...I'm going to see about submitting requests for these products if they don't start stocking them soon. With a Whole Foods thriving right across the street, I KNOW there are enough gluten-free customers to make carrying them profitable...maybe they just need a little nudge
  3. I drank the version that had Halo on the label back when it was out, and had no issues. I ended up discarding the label when I had to move at work, but I can say I'm a total Mountain Dew product fangirl and have never had any gluten issues with their drinks Hope this helps.
  4. I will have to try this out since I'm desperate for some bread. Have you tried halving the recipe? I just want to try one loaf to see how I like it.
  5. I might try the Envirokidz, but I haven't seen them in the Whole Foods near me so I might have a little trouble getting ahold of some. I love Soyjoy bars, I just need to buy them more often. I printed the recipe you linked. Thanks so much! I'll post when I get a chance to try it out
  6. Hehe. Well, that describes me pretty accurately, especially considering the fun I have with puns
  7. I agree with your decision to test out the diet. I don't have kids, but a year ago, I started having these horrible symptoms. My blood panel came back negative for celiac, but I had also been gluten free for 2 weeks already because I was absolutely miserable and finally something was working. I'm not going back anytime soon for testing because I would have...
  8. From what I've used so far in my cooking this past year, i haven't seen any canned veggies that have gluten in them, especially tomato stuff. I have only seen tomatoes and peppers or spices in even stewed tomatoes or seasoned sauce. There is an unsafe ingredients list on this site that can help you recognize whether any oddball ingredients are not okay. Hope...
  9. Yep. And I haven't seen a brand or generic that has seen fit to add anything at all to it, so I think we're safe
  10. Thai Kitchen is a brand line with a long list of gluten-free products and I have been able to find them at several major grocery stores (Allergy info here: Open Original Shared Link I just tried their Thai Peanut flavored stir-fry kit with the meat from a split chicken breast I had in the freezer and found it to be a little under-salted, but otherwise...
  11. The way I see it, they responded in such a way that lets a consumer know that if an ingredient list doesn't happen to mention any gluten ingredients, it's safe for us. I hate not knowing whether a company labels that stuff, so I know for sure what should be okay. As far as the dry, impersonal response, I pretty much expect that kind of carefully-worded jargon...
  12. I had similar issues when I decided to go gluten free and inquired about the inactive ingredients in my birth control pill. The pharmacist and I leaned in together to squint at the tiny writing to try to locate them and ended up finding nothing. I decided that since I have no symptoms when I'm gluten free (to my knowledge) and I take this pill every day,...
  13. Yeah, that looks really good, and a lot easier than the marshmallow popcorn. It's probably quite a bit healthier just because it yields a small amount, so it would be harder to keep snacking on it all day
  14. Well, I still haven't made it over to that store to try those bars, but I'm still open for suggestions. Does anyone have a good granola bar recipe or one for granola that could be made into bars? I still really miss them, and the few recipes I've found use a bunch of ingredients I can't easily find. *sigh*
  15. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll have to check into those and see if I like them.
  16. Hmm...seems a little dry, even with whatever juice may come with the tomato products. 1 cup of water and 1 cup of non-instant rice? I do believe only instant rice can be cooked properly with equal amounts of rice and water. Check the bag/box for the rice you used and make sure the liquid ratio is correct. If the finished dish had soaked up almost all of the...
  17. I'm aware of this option, but I'm trying to avoid having to make *so many* things. I'm especially irritated by this new exclusion from my diet because these granola bars are sold at so many places. Gas stations, Walgreens, sometimes even office supply stores that have a random assortment of candy bars at the front. My grab-and-go option is gone, and now I...
  18. I've had these waffles and they tasted pretty good (as gluten-free waffles go) but they are really holey. Syrup drips straight through them, which makes it hard to eat them my usual way of just picking the waffle up whole and taking bites. The banana flavor isn't very pronounced, so to solve that problem and the dripping problem, I would heat them in the...
  19. I can totally understand, which is why I have a note in my post and even my signature that I eat oats. [/jinx] I only bother with a limited number of things that I eat regularly that contain oat products. It's hard... (understatement of the decade)
  20. Oh, sweet! There is a location near me. Try this link to see if there's one close to you: Open Original Shared Link
  21. I'll have to look into that. I don't recall seeing their products at the Whole Foods Market where I usually get my gluten-free stuff, but I'll do a search and see what it turns up. If they're in my price range, I might do what others suggest and ask my local grocers if they can start carrying them Thanks!
  22. Thanks! I was trying to keep it light even though I really am pretty incensed about this. My favorite snack, gone!
  23. Figuring out that it was gluten that was causing me such digestive pain and discomfort starting almost a year ago sent me into a deep depression. Suddenly, I couldn't eat ANYTHING, and everything hurt. I racked up some doctor bills, maxed out my crappy health benefits, and didn't even get a diagnosis. Before all this mess, getting through the day was hard...
  24. Nope, I used to live in Lake County but have migrated closer to "the city" to be closer to school... I guess better wording in my original post would have been "suburban Illinois" (the HUGE area that is referred to as "Chicagoland" but is actually not conveniently located to Chicago) Psilly Illinoisians!
  25. Not sure what Romper Room is... I grew up in the suburbs of Illinois with no cable... Uh-oh, I should consult these rules too. Gotta mind my p's and q's in this new, faraway place. (I'm already a member of a forum for DJs and music lovers where I'm one of few cool girls with a brain, so I tend to spout off at them at will) Oh, and I'll (hopefully...
