ARCHIVED Female Trouble
GFLisa replied to henny's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've been gluten free for the past 7-8 months and I am finally having a regular period for the first time in years. I went through phases where it was four days long every two weeks. I went through other phases that were 12-18 days long and then I'd get 3 weeks before it would start back up again. I saw several docs about it and none could figure it out... -
ARCHIVED Cosmetics
GFLisa replied to horsegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use the Burts Bees shimmers for a touch of color or the Kiss my Face balms when my lips are chapped. Both are gluten-free and I can find them at Kroger, Whole Foods, Earth Fare, and sometimes Target. Also, you can ask at Sephora and they will let you know. I was there with a Celiac friend this summer and she was double checking the hidden ingredients... -
ARCHIVED Not A Recipe But
GFLisa replied to gigantor98's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks! I did not know that and I shop at Kroger a lot. -
ARCHIVED Wheat Germ Oil In A Gluten Free Product?
GFLisa replied to MELINE's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Is it Floradix? Someone told me it was gluten-free and I was taking it for awhile. Eventually a friend pointed out to me that it had wheat germ oil. -
ARCHIVED Great Gluten Free Breads And Goodies--earth Fair
GFLisa replied to mustluvcats's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yep, they are based out of Asheville. If you go to the site you can see where all of their stores are. I have tried some of their gluten free bakery items and I haven't had a problem. I agree with Lizard though, the signage isn't great. I do a lot of shopping at the store here in Raleigh (on my way there in just a bit) and occasionally at a store down... -
I also have super long eyelashes. My glasses are plastic frames that slide easily off my nose. Annoying, but they tend to sit lower so that my lashes don't hit the lenses constantly.

Wow, I knew the Frosty was gluten-free, but I didn't realize they had so much other stuff that was okay. I tend to just avoid all fast food in general, but that's good to know if I need something in a pinch.

ARCHIVED Is Fondant Gluten Free
GFLisa replied to jennyj's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Slightly OT, but I wonder if their sprinkles are made in the same plant? I think I might have to contact them and find out. -
Congrats! I went through something similar with my DS, who is close in age to yours (Nov 2006). We've been gluten free for 9 months and he's grown 1.5" and gained 10lbs. When he was six months old and went on solid foods he stopped growing and started to lose weight.

ARCHIVED Energy Drinks And Toothpaste
GFLisa replied to MByrd's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Jason Natural's kids line of toothpastes are gluten-free, but I have not checked on their adult line yet. -
ARCHIVED Trader Joe's Pasta
GFLisa replied to Nic's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
What does the TJ's pasta package look like? I have never seen it before. I don't go to TJs often since I'm fortunate to have several stores much closer that carry gluten-free items. The kids and I like Tinkyada and Mrs. Leeper's, but DH prefers the Bionaturae gluten-free one. My kids also go nuts for the Annie's Mac n Cheese. -
Wow, where are you guys eating? lol Every single time I go to Chilis I have a reaction. I don't even try with them anymore.

ARCHIVED Glutino Bagels
GFLisa replied to GFqueen17's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Now that I finally tried the Enjoy Life bagels the Glutino ones don't seem so bad. I think I'm going to try those Le Garden ones though, they look delicious! -
I didn't see anywhere to edit, so I wanted to include that it wasn't actually the Raleigh PF Chang's that glutened us, it was the one in Durham at Southpoint Mall. I was mixing it up with a trip we took the following week to the Raleigh one.

ARCHIVED Keep Contacting Those Manufacturers
GFLisa replied to missy'smom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just found the Zesty Azteca Meatball the other day, but haven't tried it yet. Up until now I've just been avoiding Campbell's altogether because every can I ever picked up had gluten in it. -
My kitchen is completely gluten-free so that we don't have any issues. However when I cook away from home my general rule of thumb is to not use any pourus materials. I avoid teflon and other non-stick items, cast iron, clay, wood, and plastic. I try to use stainless and glass for everything. If I need to toast bread I'll put it on foil in the oven.

ARCHIVED Mother With Celiac And Anemia, Reactions To Iron?
GFLisa replied to dd4glutenfree's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would check and make sure the iron she's taking doesn't have gluten hidden in the filler. When I first went gluten-free I was taking Floradix and had no idea it had wheat in it until a friend told me. Now I take New Chapter iron which is gluten-free. I also just found out that Country Life Vitamins are all gluten-free, so there is no risk of cross contamination... -
ARCHIVED Estee Lauder Pure Color Gloss
GFLisa replied to tracy1617's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't know, I don't use it. Whenever I buy new lip gloss I go to Sephora and I ask them. They can look up anything and tell you if it contains gluten. Now I only wish they'd put the info on their website. -
ARCHIVED Need Oatmeal Help Fast!
GFLisa replied to blondebombshell's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I tried Open Original Shared Link (rolled oats) this summer and had a reaction to them. I didn't try them again until Christmas when I was craving my favorite child hood cookie, which called for oats, but no flour, so I figured I'd give them another shot. I used them again in the cookies and did not have a problem. -
We love Biaggi's! The wait staff is super nice and informed. We have never been disappointed there and my DH was actually impressed with how much the staff knew.

I had the Singapore Street noodles this summer when I was in San Diego and they were light in color. It was my first experience eating there since going gluten-free and I was with a friend, who is actually a member of this forum. I don't recall them being spicy at all. She had the same thing and we had double checked with the kitchen because we were curious...

Same here, but I noticed we are in the same town so we're probably going to the same location(s). One is slightly better than the other about it, but they recognize me when I come in.

ARCHIVED Glutino Bagels
GFLisa replied to GFqueen17's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't like them. :ducks: I have some Enjoy Life ones here that I can't bring myself to taste because I don't want to be disappointed again. -
ARCHIVED Target Sells Rice Chex For $1.68!
GFLisa replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Also keep your eye out for coupons. I snagged a bunch of boxes that had coupons for $3 off when you buy any 3 GM cereals. -
Flemings in McLean/Tysons Corner, VA is very accommodating. The waiter was fairly knowledgeable about wheat and I explained to him that it included barley and rye as well. He was pleasant and understanding and wasn't afraid to ask me questions back, which I appreciated.
