  1. Thanks for the info. Procedure done by G.I., using ultrasound. Previously both ultra sound and cat scan used. Next day,I started coughing up bloody mucous and had to go for a chest x-ray, which turned out OK, but the whole thing scared me.
  2. Anyone have a good recipe?
  3. Hi. OK. Maiden name; Seymour. Grandmother: Helen Long. Great-grandmother: Molly Ahearn. Any relatives out there? My question is this- I eat corned beef and cabbage every St. Pat's day, but is it authentic?? I have a feeling that people in Ireland don't. Anyone know?
  4. All the foods you mentioned are easy to convert to gluten-free. For meatballs or meatloaf, just use gluten-free bread or crackers in place. I have used leftover breading, biscuits or even mashed potatoes for the filler. You can buy good gluten-free pasta or, if you are an experienced cook, you can make your own. Recipezaar.com amd glutenfreeda.com are...
  5. These posts made me homesick! I live in Ohio, now,but I went to Oshkosh high, my firstborn was born in Oconomowoc,, and I moved here from Lake Kegonsa ( near Stoughton, just south of Madison). I miss Wisconsin- I don't miss the weather! Have a great day. Part of my heart is still there! susan
  6. Last Oct., my doc did a needle biopsy on my liver. When the procedure was over, he informed me that he cound't find my liver and that he would have to perform a surgical biopsy at a later date. Being under anastesia, I just said whatever. He never mentioned it again and ,by this time I was so sick of being poked and prodded, niether did I. I did wonder...
  7. Sounds like you have a great garden. Iv'e never been able to start plants in my house- too dark, too small. Don't much like it , but I love the property. I've got a lot of the plants that you have, and am itching to get out there and work in the garden. I hope it goes better this year.
  8. The tree is an ancient tart red cherry tree. We lost half of it last year in a bad windstorm, but it still survives. I'm going to confess- I don't use the cherries! Maybe I'm to lazy to pit them all but, never mind that, the birds eat them before I can even get to them. But thats allright. The birds need to eat. This year, I may ask the birds if I can...
  9. I thaught Lake Wobegone was a fictional place! I'm from Wisconsin, and thaught that I lived in Lake Wobegon, but only in my head! I now live in Ohio. Big fan of Garrison Keelor and gardening. Could it be true? Is Lake Wobegone real, or just wishful thinking? Susan
  10. I have a pretty good sized garden (40 by 60 yds.) that last year wnt to %&*#. Its kind of far away from the house and I was tied to the bathroom last summer, so am really looking forward to spring.I grow mostly potatoes, corn, beans, peas, salad stuff, herbs, and od course, tomatoes. I think that between my new diet and the economy, the gardens success...
  11. Iv'e been gluten free for 2 months now, and just finished eating a gluten-free snickerdoodle. Can't remember were I got the recipe, but it would be easy to find on the net. Are you a "foodie" as your name implies? I am, so it was devastating to find out that I would have to relinquish what I thaught was such an intrikle part of my diet But, I practiced...
  12. I don't know if this is part of ciliac or not, but sometimes at night painfull foot and leg cramps will wake me up. I used to have to get up and walk around to get rid of them, but found this on Dr. Gott. Now, I throw a bar of soap between the sheets near my feet, and I never get them. The origial article said to put a piece in your sock, but I can't sleep...
  13. I had to do a gluten challenge for an endo. Doc advised me to eat wheat once a day for three weeks. Endo turned out negative, but I was so sick! Now I know that I should have eaten more gluten for a longer time, but I will never, ever attempt it again! I know my body, and no Doc can tell me that I'm not celiac. And, no way will I go through that again...

  15. Went to daughters house for cookout Sat. night. They both made gluten-free appetizers just for me. Got gluttened! It just must be that the gluten in thier homes just gets into everything. I'm going to have to tell them not to bother- it isn't worth being sick to not hurt thier feelins, and I cannot expect them to have gluten-free homes. Oh, family....
  16. 211 is very high, especially if it is a fasting bg. I am a diabetic, and could not get my blood sugar under control. My doc kept wanting to up my meds or even put me on insulin. I started on metformin, but that didn't really help much (blood sugar still about 300) and it made me sick. So, I switched to glyburide. It brought my blood sugar down to the 2...
  17. I'm sure you're sick of hearing this, but it takes time. I'm 2 months gluten light, and 2 months gluten free, and still have bouts with D. But, since going gluten free, I have gained 10 lbs. (yeah!) and my symptoms are 75% reduced. I am regaining strenth, and feeling better everyday. I did change my diet. I eat more protien, vegetables, and fruit than...
  18. Thanks. They have been minor, thank God! I hate being glutened!
  19. the box of rice cripies was marked gluten free, and all the other stuff I eat with no problem. Mystery.
  20. I used rice crispies, almonds, dried pineapple, craisens, brown sugar, butter, and frozen pineapple juice concentrate. I've eaten all the other ingrediants alone and have had no problems. Can't figure it out, but another woman in my celiac support group had the same experience.
  21. I just finished eating a half cup serving of trail mix using gluten-free rice crispies and all gluten-free ingrediants, and am yet running to the bathroom. This is not the first time this has happened. Anyone else have this experience? Please let me know.

I'm new here, but my advice is to quit dairy, AND GET YOUR BLOOD SUGAR CHECKED! I am also diabetic and its nothing to fool with. Although I will tell you that, since going on the gluten-free diet, my blood sugar readings ( which I take daily) have gone from very high to normal. Kind of a miracle. But some of your symptoms could also indicate diabetes...
  23. dear val, Im pretty new to this, too. Best advice is to keep it simple at first. Do you have time to cook? Early on, I bought bread, pizza crust, ect. They were really bad! And, even though I was a good cook, my first attemps at gluten-free baking were really bad! The gluten-free flours just didnt act like flour. It took me a few attemps, but finally...
  24. help! I'v used excess wallpaper to line my kitchen cupboards and drawers. Could this be causing me problems? You seem to be so helpful to so many. Susan
