ARCHIVED My Parents Are Asking How To Prepare gluten-free Meals...
Wenmin replied to GlutenGalAZ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Barbeques are usually O.K. as long as the meats and sauce are gluten free: chicken marinated in Italian salad dressing with seasoning, chops, and ribs. Oscar Mayer beef hot dogs and Hilshire Farm beef smoked sausage are both gluten free. Barbeque sauce Cattleman's. My parents cook for the whole family every weekend. I am the only celiac in the family... -
ARCHIVED 5 Days In A House With Gluten Everywhere?
Wenmin replied to hhdavid's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Bring lots of canned goods, like green beans, carrots, peas, red beans, Baked beans, fruits, etc. Also, you might want to bring your own peanut butter/jellies, ham, vienna sausage, etc. and your own can opener and bowl to pop it in the microwave..... I did this when we went on vacation last summer for a week with a beach house full of gluten eating relatives... -
I didn't say it wasn't gluten free. I just had issues with it. I avoid Jif Peanut Butter becasue it does not sit well with me. Instead I use Reese's Peanut Butter. No difference in the taste at all....

Most of the products on the "Mainstream" list are safe. Use the safe and unsafe list posted on this forum to check any ingredients you are unsure of. I really did not have any problems with any food product listed on this site, except Jif Peanut Butter. But, I did find an alternative to use. (Reese's Peanut Butter). Good Luck! Wenmin

Sorry my question wasn't clear. I am asking if it is a wise decision to donate a kidney now to my mother? Will I be at risk later to develop renal failure due to Celiac? Thanks for your help,
-
I am a self diagnosed celiac and I am in the process of going through testing to donate a kidney to my mother. My family has a history of polycystic kidneys and we have had 3 family members that have already had kidney transplants (2 were living donors and 1 cadaver). I am my mothers' last hope because my brother already donated a kidney to a relative and...

ARCHIVED So New To This Celiac Thing
Wenmin replied to Bethe444's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Here is a partial listing of Gluten Free Mainstream food products that was very helpful to me. It is quite outdated but was my "bible" when I was diagnosed back in July 2008. I still refer to it today in some cases. Please don't try to find "all" of these items at once, it will make you crazy. Instead, pick 2-3 items a week that you are craving and find... -
I just visited Cracker Barrel in Baton Rouge last week. Their new menu choices included low carb options. They offered naked chicken strips, baked fish, hamburger without the bun, etc. The chicken strips with honey mustard dipping sauce was awesome. With each entree they offered 3 side items. The hashbrown casserole and baby carrots were great. Did...

I have the same issues, but at work! We get a 20 minute lunch period and I always tend to pack leftovers from the night before in microwavable containers. My colleagues tend to eat those pre-prepared boxed lunches (Healthy Choice, Lean Cuisine, etc). I never ate those when I wasn't eating gluten free. YUK! Everyday one colleague in particular oogles...

ARCHIVED Sweet Rice As A Thickener?
Wenmin replied to doodle's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I am looking for a gluten-free flour to make a roux with. I've been told to use sweet rice flour. This might be a stupid question, but where do you buy this stuff? I've looked at my local grocery store and at Whole Foods. I have yet to find something called sweet rice flour. (Is it white rice flour/brown rice flour?) Would appreciate any help. Thanks... -
