  1. Oh you poor thing! Hashi's is a you-know-what. Celiac and other autoimmune stuff run together, so I would seriously just have them check you for EVERYTHING. Finding a doctor that will do that might be tough, but good luck. Having Hashimoto's myself, I can tell you that its rough. It makes you tired, crackly voice, enlarging thyroid, etc. I had...
  2. Hello Everyone! I have a dilema! I need a recipe for St. Lucia buns that are gluten-free. I used to live in Sweden where they actually sold gluten-free ones but here in the States I dont have such luck! St. Lucia buns are basically yeasted sweet buns that have saffron in them, so if anyone has a good sweet-bun recipe, I could probably add the saffron...
  3. wow! I had a similar experience... celiac test came negative but I didnt give the diet a try till several months later. My doctor had told me I could try the diet a while ago to see what happens but I was sloppy and didnt experience the relief I got until I made a real effort to be strictly gluten free. I know that a true diagnosis of Celiac would require...
  4. The book that saves me every time I have a craving is Carol Fenster's book 1000 Gluten-Free recipes. Lots of great information and encouragement. And also proof that you can make pretty much anything gluten free. I just made brownies out of this book and had to restrain myself so I didnt eat the batter. Yum. Also... may I reccomend Bard's Tale and...
  5. Thanks guys! I felt OK after it, a little headachey but that was all. Lesson learned!
  6. Aside from the gluten, I know that a few other things set me off... so listen to your body. Since you are a vegetarian, spinach has a certain acid in it that can bother your stomach unless you cook it a little. I know that I used to eat lots of raw spinach and had some problems with that. Other than that, I am also super duper lactose intolerant, so watch...
  7. Ok... so I just drank a Corona light because I have another celiac friend who also drinks it... and now that Im researching I cant find out if its actually brewed with barley or just corn as some people have told me. I usually get a tension headache when I drink non gluten-free beer, and I have a touch of tension building now, not as bad as usual though...
  8. Wow, I have similar symptoms, especially that of being really hungry during the first like week. I too have gained weight without gaining fatness! I am now eating my usual healthy diet (but gluten-free!) and feel a lot better, not so tired, not so much IBS anymore! Cool to hear that someone else has experienced something similar to me!
  9. Hi! Im in the exact same boat as you... IBS symptoms that wouldnt go away, botched celiac test (I was already gluten free) and gave my MD's advice to try gluten free some serious thought. I have heard from a woman whose daughter has had Celiac for a while that the longer you go gluten-free, the more sensitive you become. This may be true for you also...
  10. Anyone know of a place to dine in Leavenworth WA that has, like, gluten-free pancakes/pastries/cookies, etc? Going up there for oktoberfest soon and I would like to not have to pack around my own little cookies and stuff. LOL
  11. OMG story of my life. I have a similar story! My MD suspected celiac back in feb but blood tests were negative, so I didnt really give gluten free much thought until my symptoms became a bit much. When the you-know-what hit the fan with my symptoms and I had had enough, I decided to give my MD's advice to try the diet seriously a shot. Well, what...
  12. Hmmm... when I first started gluten free I remember having a weak moment and eating a peanut butter brownie (well, I guess of all things to gluten yourself on, that would be a good one LOL). I was OK that night but then I think the next day I was having some symptoms. Same for a time I had beer... OK that night but then kinda icky the next day. I think...
  13. Hello! Ive been feeling great now, but have had hip flexor pain and wierd menstrual (sp?) cramps that mimic the abdominal pain I once had before finding out I am gluten intolerant. I find myself constantly focusing on the little twinges and getting panicky and thinking... OK... what the heck? I must have really been tuned into my body before changing...
  14. Oh wow! my left hand looks exactly like yours!!!!!!
  15. Anyone ever have issues after having a pumpkin spice latte from starbucks. I drink soy, so I have a double short soy pumpkin spice latte with no whip. I had the exact thing a week earlier and was OK, but this time I got bloated! Any ideas? Is there malt extract in it?
  16. Yeah, go get it checked. I have Hashimotos and gluten intolerance. I got a lot of the spaciness resolved from taking thyroid replacement, so be sure to check it out.
  17. Thanks! I talked to my mom and she thought I was crazy!! Crazy that I thought she might not understand!!! She said that she TOTALLY has my back and that a its nothing to be ashamed about. Lots of people we know are gluten intolerant anyway and it makes no difference- they make spaghetti and hamburger buns and cookies and stuff! I appreciate all...
  18. Well I told my folks and they were **HAPPY FOR ME** that I found out what was bothering my tummy all this time! Thanks for the support, guys!
  19. Ive recently discovered that after a long time of crazy bowel symptoms, I eliminated gluten and feel WAY BETTER! Was tested for celiac a while ago and it was a negative blood test, but I am strongly suspect that it was a false negative. Im going to call my ARNP today and tell her what Ive found out, but... I am REALLY self conscious about telling my...
  20. Thank you soo much! Another thing too, that you may have insight into... I am REALLY self conscious about telling my family and friends about this... not ashamed but I just dont want them to feel that I am going to be a burden for them when I come visit, etc. I am single and live alone so its pretty easy for me when on my own, but...!!! Have you found...
  21. The fogging out is something I also really experienced when going through some thyroid issues, which tend to run along with gluten intolerances. Maybe have your thyroid checked as well- there may be a connection to thyroid function and gluten intake in sensitive people?
  22. Hello Everyone! I need some advice as to where to proceed. In March, my ARNP suspected me for celiac and did a blood test. I am not sure what exactly they tested for in terms of the type of celiac panel, but it came out negative. I do have autoimmune thyroid issues and recurring IBS type symptoms. I have been eating well for a while now but I have been...
  23. Hello! I was having my check up yesterday and to my suprise my MD ordered a celiac blood screening! I 23 and have an enlarged thyroid, have lost about 10 lbs mysteriously in the last month or so and have had a lot of tiredness and lethargy and hives (and bad adult acne) steadily getting worse for the last couple of months to year. Ive wondered about...
