ARCHIVED Going Gluten-free
OptimisticMom42 replied to rebe09's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
About the constipation....I found several posts about magnesium/potassium/calcium, tried it and it works for me. Banana and calcium with breakfast, magnesium before bed. Also my withdrawals were a bit like PMS. Very emotional, cried over ice cream (I had to give up dairy, soy and gluten all at once). It went away and I've been fine since then. -

You could just go for the genetic testing. Your genes are your genes regardless of what you eat! And for your own peace of mind go off gluten for a few days and then have a peice of toast and ruin your day off of work! Sorry, I was kidding. Have a gluten free brownie, they're pretty good! -

ARCHIVED "in Defense Of Food" By Michael Pollan
OptimisticMom42 replied to Miss Emily's topic in Publications & Publicity
I've been putting my food right on the counter at work so it's easy for me to see when some one brings in that box of doughnuts or pk of dollar store cookies. So my co-workers have been checking the price stickers on my food and commenting on it. Yes, juice costs more than corn syrup. Yes, peanut butter costs more than soy butter. I've started taking the... -
ARCHIVED How Do I Know I've Succeded
OptimisticMom42 replied to Googles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You shouldn't be tired and hungry. Are you eating enough? Protien? multi-vitamin? enough fluids? You can only do the best you can. The absence of illness is the only way I know. After that it's just keeping things simple so I don't have to second guess myself. -
ARCHIVED Ellen Degeneres - Gluten Free!
OptimisticMom42 replied to JustCan's topic in Publications & Publicity
Maybe Ellen just doesn't want to be as open on national TV as we are on this site about poop I hadn't thought about the fad diet/contamination issue. I can just see a greedy manufacturer laughing and saying, "It's not really gluten free, we just write that on the box so they'll buy it. Gluten doesn't really make anyone sick. It's all in thier heads... -
ARCHIVED Before Dx Did You Have More C Or D
OptimisticMom42 replied to mindyandy420's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was constantlypated (constantley constipated) until I had enough damage to keep me from digesting milk and soy. The undigested milk and soy gave me "D". After removing those from my diet it was cement in the intestines until I removed all gluten. Now I'm daily for the first time in my life that I can remember. -
Good Morning All, I'm wondering if anyone else has had an experience like the one I had this morning. I took my 18yr old son into our local Dr.'s office to request a letter stating that DS needs to maintain a gluten free diet. I took two books and a ziplock container of old pill bottles to prove our case. The P.A. said, "No need, The Dr. already suspected...

ARCHIVED Omg! I Can't Do This.. :(
OptimisticMom42 replied to Vlo1980's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Flavored coffee can have gluten in it. My favorite replacement for mocha capp so far is large black coffee 2 marshmellows enjoylife chocolate chips to taste (I like lots!) The marshmellows keep the chocolate from sinking to the bottom of the cup. -
ARCHIVED Omg! I Can't Do This.. :(
OptimisticMom42 replied to Vlo1980's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Vlo1980, Can you take a few minutes to make a menu for yourself? Include three meals and two snacks for each day even if you never eat that much. Do the menu as if you are not gluten free and then modify it. If you would normally have a sandwich have a salad and few gluten free pretzels. If you would normally have a bowl of cereal have gluten free cereal... -

Hello, I just wanted to say that many of us celiacs who are not tolerant of dairy don't tolerate soy either. Almond Breeze, Coconut milk and Rice milk have been pretty easy for me to use on cereal and in recipes. The coconut milk, undiluted, can also be used in place of butter in recipes. There is soy lecithin in the Almond Breeze. Some of us react to... -
First you have to decide if you are going to wait until the testing is done or dive right in and see what happens. If you're going to dive in, start with a simple menu and shopping list. OptimisticMom42 replied to hex's topic in Sports and Fitness
My supplements all say gluten, dairy, soy free on the label, nothing special, picked them up at the Rite Aid. As for protein powder and bars......aren't these all made from wheat protein? I think I would just try eating steak and fries! And a big fruit smoothie with almond milk. Yum -
ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed - Weight Loss?
OptimisticMom42 replied to LiveLoveLaugh3's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm 42 yrs old, 5'6". My weight went from 163lbs to 150lbs and has stayed there. I haven't been trying to lose weight. I still feel tired but I think it's because I'm dealing with yeast and other food intolerances (mostly corn). I really didn't want to give up corn but it's gone now. And the aches, pains and constipation went with it. So the healing... -

ARCHIVED Vinegar Again
OptimisticMom42 replied to lovegrov's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Richard, Glad to hear that gluten is not one of the things I have to worry about with vinegar. Do you know if treating systemic yeast by taking acidophilus can reduce or eliminate my mold allergy reaction to vinegar?
