  1. Made the choc chip cookie mix yesterday... quite good. Nice texture, light -- I made the larger cookies, 1T of mix, and got 14. Should be a crowd and kid pleaser. Will try their cake when it's in the store, not there yet.
  2. Thank you for sharing your experiences. Ahorsesoul: Does the Tietelbaum protocol involve guaifenesin. I never heard of that doctor. Sixtytwo: I've chatted with/gotten to know women from all over the country through the internet, and every one of them struggles with winter. It's tough on the body and the mind. And to think I really want to move...
  3. Thanks for the tips! I did not know that about the taste of soy flour. Regarding the blend, is this something you can purchase or do you need to buy the three then make it up?
  4. What about mocha frappucino, anyone happen to know?
  5. Now that you're celiac disease/GI, have your FM symptoms gone away? Just improved? Do you still think you have FM or was that a false dx. As you might guess I'm asking because that was dx'd along with SLE. The SLE can be in remission and now I may or may not have FM, guess if my symptoms fade in the next months it will bring that dx into question. ...
  6. Congratulations on your joyful news! That must make it so worth it that you persisted. Regarding vitamin testing, why not go to a nutritionist? With all your symptoms I would think your insurance would cover food allergy and vit. deficiency testing, and especially now that you're pregnant you can justify making sure all bases are covered. In meantime...
  7. Where do they have A taste of Thai? I don't recall seeing that and was wondering if it's frozen or in the packaged international aisle of the store. Something to look forward to!
  8. Does anyone have this ... or is it sufficient to let your doctors know you have a gluten allergy?
  9. There is a "light" chicken piccata recipe (less butter) on the Foodnetwork dot com site today. Open Original Shared Link I want to adapt it, and it calls for flour twice, once for dredging the chicken and another portion for thickening the sauce. What do you all think about soy flour for dredging and cornstarch/water for thickening the sauce? Any better...
  10. I'm sorry I don't have much help to offer... the only gluten-free-menu restaurant I know of is Outback. I ate there Sunday with a friend and really enjoyed not having to worry about it. I also like California Wok. If you google them you can find their locales in L.A. area. They don't have a special menu but will make a lot of their dishes w/simple sauce...
  11. Well your periods being normal is pretty significant esp. if you want to have kids someday (given celiac disease's impact on women's fertility). It sounds like you're very disciplined with the diet and supplements, and I know discipline feels like a yoke sometimes. As to examples of asymptomatic celiac disease... There are quite a few of us on the boards...
  12. Thank you for the input everybody! I'm going to get new items little by little in the meantime just use my non-porous items.
  13. This is a tough problem and I can relate to your wanting to know 100%. It is expensive and a pain on the behind to be on the diet if you don't need to be. First, a couple questions which are just to get you thinking about what's really going on. If I'm reading you right, you still have depression and irregular periods? Have you had any follow up testing...
  14. Hi, sorry to ask these constant questions. Obviously I'm on the steep part of the learning curve. I tagged this question onto an existing thread I started about vitamins but now I can't find that thread so... I've been searching old B12 threads cuz I suspected I might have a deficiency. First I've been on prevacid 30mg for 6 years now for bad reflux...
  15. Follow up ? about b12 for you RiceGuy or whomever... I read here somewhere that Now is a gluten-free brand, I got some liquid B12 today (all the sub. lozenges at my local health food store had lactose in them). Question about the dose... I haven't been tested but what is the "normal" dose for someone who needs it? It says a tspn but there are only 23 tspns...
  16. FWIW, salads (like one meal salad a day) and a couple pieces of fruit/day and 8 glasses of water never failed for me in general. If you are in a bad patch, try "smooth move" tea from Traditional Medicinals. (double check to be gluten-free, as far as I can figure out it is). It's in health food stores and many grocers. It gives overnight relief but it...
  17. This is beyond my budget. Is this really necessary, and why when I've run everything through the dishwasher to sterilize it? Is gluten really that pernicious or ubiquitous or whatever? If we are unable to afford this will repeated washing get rid of the gluten gremlins?
  18. Well the timing for this question was pretty good. Here's a line from the Harvard health newsletter (link in the publications category): One major difference between celiac disease and grain-related digestion problems is that when it's just a digestion problem it typically doesn't lead to malabsorption and nutritional deficiencies. So there it is...
  19. Hi OM, I'm sorry you lost your Aunt Susan. She sounds very special in your life. I lost my dad when he was just53 to lung cancer. He did smoke, but not everyone who smokes gets lc. He had a lot of the same symptoms I've had ... indigestion, joint pain etc. (temper lol) He even had a thing like me where he could lay on one side but not the other b...
  20. Last night I took the same vitamins I've taken for the past 6 months and felt light-headed and nauseous. Took w/food of course. They're gluten-free and have had no bad reaction prior, no stomach pains like when I get gluttened. Is it possible my absorption is improving hence the reaction? Second question, have read here that sublingual b12 or shots...
  21. Thank you both. Yeah that's what I'm trying to figure out is whether it was a false neg. I'm already seeing hints that there's more than just digestive improvements which from what I gather points to celiac disease not GI. A health diary is a good idea, I actually keep one per my attorney's instructions. It's a bit surprising that more doctors are...
  22. When I read your story, before I got to your brother's age, from his behavior he sounded about 10 years old. Your dad's right, now if I had a 15 year old acting like that I'd have a private chat with him, but for whatever reason that's not happening. So it's a chance for you to practice dealing with the not-so-nice people in the world which are in no small...
  23. Open Original Shared Link Going to try, thought to share in case anyone else wants to try.
  24. This may be a question with no clear answer but here goes. What is the difference, if any, between the healing/recovery of someone who is GI vs. someone who actually has celiac disease? Of course, I'm aware that GI may really be undiagnosed celiac disease, so that's the caveat. I'm reading these articles and posts about celiac disease and doctor...
  25. Korie, you articulated that process so well. I've noticed that my stomach symptoms come first, then there's a whole unfolding thing with various problems. I've noticed several bad temper flares that I haven't felt for so long -- think I got too tired to feel any strong emotions. (lupus and maybe gluten as well, as I'm undiagnosed w/r/to gluten) A couple...
