  1. Bump! Looking for gluten-free sushi place for tonight - preferably near downtown
  2. I'd say yes and yes I had a very similar experience: two weeks of feeling amazing, followed by a bit of a roller-coaster before things leveled out. The body goes through a process of adjusting to the new diet, but things will improve and stay improved if you stick to the diet. I also gained a good 10-15 lbs of muscle from working out in the first two years...
  3. If it's the prescription-strength (Rx formula), then the Pharmacy should have that info or be able to get it for you
  4. Hi maldo, Yes, I play competitive women's soccer and had very painful tendinitis in both my achilles and in my knees. Physiotherapy and muscle strengthening helped, but the next season, after going gluten-free, I had much less pain and the injuries continued to improve. I'm not sure exactly what contributed - probably a combination of everything, but celiac...
  5. I was just in hospital overnight Tuesday to Wednesday and got a gluten-free breakfast Wednesday morning. It sucked, but it was gluten-free. It was krispy rice cereal (I think envirokidz), a gluten-free muffin, and coffee and orange juice. No fruit, no protein, just carbs, but I did not get sick from it. For the big day (I'm due Nov. 6), I will definitely...
  6. I'm 31w & 4d pregnant and I'm fairly certain I got glutened Wednesday at lunch. My stomach has been unhappy ever since and I feel so lethargic and weak, I have no energy. I've been trying to rest and drink lots of water, but I have so much to do to get ready for baby and we're also hosting a BBQ here tomorrow and I have lots to get ready for that. Hubby...
  7. Glad you brought this up - and congrats! We're due in early November! We're fortunate that we have a chest freezer in our basement, so we can pre-make and freeze a lot of meals. It's helpful to hear other suggestions for people who want to help out though. We don't have any family here, so if friends want to help out I like the idea of asking...
  8. I have celiac disease and am currently 29 1/2 weeks pregnant and very healthy, and there are lots of other moms on the board your daughter may or may not pass it on, but she can certainly have healthy children in her future if she so desires. There is a leaning curve, but living gluten-free is fairly easy once you get used to it. Good luck to you and your...
  9. I was there last year for a conference and had a good time I was staying in a hotel with a mini fridge (I recommend that if you can). I went down to a Whole Foods and stocked up and had a little stash of food at the hotel room for whenever I needed it. There's a Whole Foods on University ave. in Hillcrest, only 5 mins. from the Zoo. Kitty-corner to the...
  10. Thanks Kate!! We'll be staying only one block away from the Maubert - Mutualité Metro, I'm sure we can make the trip up to Goncourt station (I think that's the closest). I looked it up and it's only about a 20-minute Metro ride. French gluten-free pastry, that would be wonderful!
  11. We are in Lyon for the week, and then to Paris for our last couple of days. Food has been definitely challenging, and at times frustrating. Each time I go to the hotel restaurant, I get different answers about what I can and cannot eat, even though I can speak french and also have a card printed out in french. There is no market close by and I'm hungry...
  12. Hey folks, we are here in Lyon. We are in a hotel because my hubby's work is paying for it as he is here attending a conference. The hotel restaurant was great last night providing a delicious, gluten-free meal. However the area around the hotel has no supermarket, so I will be venturing out today to learn the metro and find some places to get food to...
  13. The best and most recommended post-exercise drink is chocolate milk. It has protein to help your muscles recover and repair, and has carbs and sugar to help replace electrolytes. The best is just to drink lots of water and eat a healthy post-workout meal. If you feel you need an electrolyte replacer, Gatorade is better imo, as it has more potassium, uses...
  14. Hello fellow Celiac travelers! Hubby & I are going to Europe for the first time and are leaving this Saturday. We will be staying most of the time in South-Western Lyon, and then will spend our last 2 nights in Central Paris I am 6 months pregnant. I was dx with celiac disease in July 2009 and have been strictly gluten-free ever since. I am printing...
  15. Hi and welcome every body heals at a different rate, and it depends on what kinds of deficiencies you may or may not have. In general, it takes 6 months to a year of iron supplements to get iron levels up to normal if you're anemic. I would talk to your doctor, tell him/her that you want to start trying soon, and ask for regular blood panels so you...
  16. Have you had all of your vitamin levels checked to ensure you have no deficiencies? I had a missed miscarriage (sometimes called a "chemical" pregnancy) in January, and I was already gluten-free for over four years when we started trying. It took us 6 months to have a successful pregnancy (I'm 3 1/2 months now) and I was completely healthy at the time...
  17. Hi there, Glucosamine can help with joint health and pain. I'd recommend talking to your DR about physiotherapy as well. The best thing for healing injured joints is to strengthen the muscles around those joints to provide them more support. Swimming and other low-impact exercises can help strengthen without causing more pain or injury. Good luck!
  18. I hate ginger, even while preggers! Sharp cheese seems to work, as well as cranberry juice and sprite. Any other healthier suggestions? Apples help sometimes, and I put peanut butter on apple slices when I can stomach the p.b. I haven't had avocado yet, think I might try that
  19. I've been reading that sucking on a sour candy or hard candy can help. I'm going to try it. My nausea is at its worst today!!
  20. Just to share, I was gluten-free for 2 1/2 years when I got pregnant the first time. I was in excellent health and still had a miscarriage. Many perfectly healthy people have unexplained m/c, sadly it is just a part of TTC. I'm happy to say, that I'm now 6 weeks and 2 days along and so far everything is going well I agree with keeping your DR in...
  21. hi JD, I am on Jamieson vitamins and not having any issues, just to maybe put your mind at ease about the gluten content I've heard a lot of people had issues with the iron content. I was on a high dose of iron supplements for a full year, so perhaps my system is quite used to it, which is why I'm not having a problem? Hopefully the folic...
  22. Thanks for sharing! These items are a little more difficult to find here in Canada, but I'll keep an eye out!
  23. Congratulations!!! I am 5 weeks and 2 days today, so we'll be moving along at the same time! Happy & healthy 9 months to you!
  24. Thanks! My hubby bought me a humidifier/vaporizer last night and it helped a lot with the sinus pain. Still have the yucky cold, but it does provide some relief. If you don't have one, I recommend it! Hope you feel better soon
  25. Hi all, I am only a month & 3 days pregnant, and I have a terrible head cold. The sinus pressure is very painful. I've tried a saline nose spray, acetaminophen, hot soup, hot tea, hot shower... nothing has helped yet. I keep finding conflicting information about what cold medicines are safe to take during pregnancy. I don't see my DR until Thursday...
