ARCHIVED Where Do You Buy Your Almonds, Cashews, Etc?
MKat replied to taweavmo3's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I buy mine at Trader Joes. Nuts are listed on their gluten free list to I'm assuming. Prices seem good too I think -
ARCHIVED Whole Food Favorites
MKat posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm venturing out to Whole Foods for my first gluten free shopping tirp since going gluten-free 2 months ago. I'd love to hear about people's favorite foods and some things you bought that were duds. I'm sure I'll be overwhelemd...but I'm looking forward to the trip! -
Where do you buy individual packets?? I've been looking and can't find them!

ARCHIVED Synthyroid?
MKat replied to Tigercat17's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I took Armour for years - this spring my thryoid was totally out of whack so I went back on synthroid (tried generic and broke out in a rash). I feel so much better now thyroid wise but I'm afraid of it not being gluten free. Why, when SO many celiacs have thryoid issues wouldn't the #1 thyroid medicine company make a gluten-free drug!!! And because of... -
ARCHIVED Bread Machine Vs Kitchenaid Mixer
MKat posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
If I was going to invest in a Bread Maching or KitchenAid Mixer for most of my gluten free baking (mostly bread) which one of the 2 do you think I would get more use out of in general?? Can only afford 1 -
ARCHIVED Walmart Great Value Brand Moving Away From gluten-free
MKat replied to JayinUT's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My walmart finally had the Betty Crocker mixes. I bought a few, went back 2 days later and they were GONE. I was hoping that would make walmart realize the demand! -
ARCHIVED Alexia Crunch Snacks
MKat posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I can't believe I haven't been able to find a post about these yet! I bought Alexia Crunch Snacks Waffle Fries Classic Ranch at my Wal Mart today. The ingredients seem gluten-free but I wondered if anyone else had tried them?? Here is what their website says about their regular waffle fries Question : Are any of your products gluten free? Answer... -

ARCHIVED Resources For Family Members To Understand X-contamination?
MKat replied to StephanieM's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had my first gluten free weekend with family last weekend. I took much of my own food and got tired explaining - especially since I don't have a celiac diagnosis, just a self-diagnosis gluten intolerance. We had icecream cake from Coldstone creamery - I asked if there was any plain vanilla at home in her fridge. She said that I could just take the cake... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerant...still Have To Be Carefule W/cc?
MKat replied to MKat's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know I'm not eating gluten food, but I found out that my sendodyne toothpaste (which I use because it's SLS free and better for canker sores) probably contains gluten....and perhaps Walmart brand ibuprofen?? Couldn't find direct answers to either of those questions. I don't eat many processed/boxed foods anyway and I've done SO MUCH research on gluten... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerant...still Have To Be Carefule W/cc?
MKat posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I couldn't get a positive Celiac Diagnosis w/blood work or endoscopy but I've gone gluten-free 2 times now and feel MUCH better so I'm just saying I have an intolerance I guess (a diagnosis sure would be easier!!) Anyway, do intolerant folks still need to be as careful w/all the cross contamination as a true Celiac would? So far I haven't been ultra careful... -

ARCHIVED Synthroid
MKat replied to wowzer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was on synthroid years ago, switched to armour because it was more "natural". For 6 years it worked great then all of a sudden I couldn't get my levels under control. The doc perscribed Levoxyl and I had a bad reaction to is. I begged to switch back to Syntrhoid and it got me stabalized again. Nothing feels worse than when your thyroid is really out... -
Another question to add to this is where do you buy little individual packets of safe salad dressings that don't need refrigerated?

This might be too broad of a question - but what spices are usually bad because of gluten?

The first time I went mostly gluten free for 3 weeks my stomach felt great!! It started going downhill as I didn't completely eliminate all gluten. I went back on gluten for 2 months to be tested - I was miserable w/D and bloating....lost like 7 lbs. I have tested negative w/blood and biopsy. Here and there during my gluten challenge I would go a...

ARCHIVED Go Slowly Off Gluten Vs. Cold Turkey?
MKat posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've been reading about gluten withdrawal symptoms (like fatigue and depression). When I did a mostly gluten free test for 3 weeks this spring I was extremely exhausted. I was also having thyroid issues - so it was one or the other or a combination of the 2 but I was a mess. BUT, my stomach was GREAT!! I went back on gluten for about 2 months to be tested... -
ARCHIVED Sometimes Ok Eating Gluten?
MKat posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have had stomach and thryoid issues for years. I've had several celiac blood tests and recently had a biopsy that came back normal. I went pretty much gluten free for 3 weeks and felt great - all stomach problems disappeared, which prompted me to ask for a biopsy. I went back to eating gluten for 2 months before the biopsy and had diarrhea 10-15 times... -
ARCHIVED Exhaustion
MKat replied to BeautifulDay's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes!! I'm still waiting on biopsy reports. My blood tests have always come back negative. I was mostly gluten free for 3 weeks and my stomach has never felt better!!! My one complaint was the fatigue. I didn't know if it was because I wasn't getting my normal carbs....I also really cut back on the sugar so I wondered if I was going thru sugar withdrawal... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy - Got Some Questions
MKat replied to Sparkle1988's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had my endoscopy yesterday and it was a piece of cake...although I'm still groggy today - but I'm groggy a lot anyway. He said he thought he saw some damage then he wasn't sure so we'll wait on the biopsy report next week. He also said he'd be interested in doing genetics testing...so now I need to read up on that I would be gonig gluten free (again... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy - Got Some Questions
MKat replied to Sparkle1988's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had negative blood work too and I'm having the endoscopy tomorrow! It was helpful to have this info today! I've always tested negative w/blood work and am desperately hoping for a positive biopsy (doesn't it wound weird to hope for a disease!) I went mostly gluten free back in the spring and felt worlds better...until I ate barley. I've been eating gluten... -
Thanks for sharing. And, yes, I did begin to think about how my gall bladder would have felt if I had done this before I had it removed. I'm so bummed I had it taken out! I was tested for Celiac about 6 months before I had it removed, but I thought since it was negative it meant just that....negative. I have decided to start eating some gluten again...
