I had a skin prick test done today, or at least part of one. My blood pressure crashed in the middle of the test. I got light headed, dizzy, and nauseated. Although my blood pressure went back up after a short period of time, I felt bad for hours afterward. My scalp was flushed, my hands cold, and I felt shaky and confused. Has anyone had a similar...

After going gluten free I have noticed a significant change in my moods. My anxiety, wild mood swings, depression, mania and mild ocd tendencies have all resolved. I have also read that magnesium helps with relieving anxiety symptoms.

You may also try eating more gelatin and or taking vitamin E supplements. Now that you can actually absorb it -
ARCHIVED Does The Neuropathy Go Away
TotalKnowledge replied to dream77's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Mine has all but gone away (that I can tell) except for a persistent swelling sensation. My mother who on my advice has started a gluten free diet has also noticed improvement and hers is more advanced then mine. Time will tell if that is just an immediate response or being on the tract toward resolution of the symptoms. -
ARCHIVED Vitamin D Deficiency?
TotalKnowledge replied to Seamuskitty's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You must be close to me. Very hot, and the sun can be brutal. I thought living near the beach would be fun, nope just really hot, and now I never make it out to the beach anymore. I went more when I lived further away. Thanks for the thread. I had not put much though into what vitamin deficiencies I might have. I have been taking a multi vitamin... -
ARCHIVED Restless Leg When I'm Tired
TotalKnowledge replied to glutenfreejenny's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Right after going gluten free my restless leg got immediately better. Then has started to creep back in from time to time (although not to the levels pre gluten free) I am wondering if mine isn't tied to some form of mineral deficiency. I am making a concerted effort to make sure I get a wider range of minerals throughout the day. -
ARCHIVED Ugh Must Go Back To The Gluten Free Life Again
TotalKnowledge replied to dally099's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You can always try eating more of the gluten free foods that are not substitutes for "normal foods". Fruits, vegetables, meats... and there are lots of grain/tuber dishes that are gluten free without resorting to Gluten free pizza. Sometimes the devil can be in the details as well. The gluten free pizza is much better if cooked without anything under... -
ARCHIVED Any Fellow Cd's In Nc
TotalKnowledge replied to Lisa's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
There is a relatively new support group that is held and Lovey's once a month. I have only been to one meeting, but there were a several people there. They have a sign-up sheet there at the information table right when you come in next to the cafe seating. -
ARCHIVED Just Lucky Or Are The Doctors Coming Around?
TotalKnowledge replied to OptimisticMom42's topic in Doctors
I think you are just lucky. After asking my doctor about testing, and opting to try gluten free, he seems completely unimpressed with my improved condition and told me I should still get tested to "make sure" since a gluten free diet is more expensive and hard to follow. -
ARCHIVED What Is The Point Of Diagnosis?
TotalKnowledge replied to TotalKnowledge's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I personally don't like gluten sensitivity. It seems to underemphasis what is a very serious condition. I guess the same could be said for the intolerance label, but I think that one is to a lesser degree. I also think disease is a misnomer. I don't really have a suggestion to fill the gap. Perhaps Celiac Spectrum. It works better than the others. -
ARCHIVED How Many People Are Actually Self-diagnosed?
TotalKnowledge replied to no-more-muffins's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have learned to pay more attention to my cravings lately. Having been deprived of many nutrients for a long time, I have found that I crave certain foods and feel better after eating them. Bananas for example make me feel much better. I have some nutritional catching up to do. -
Its different, people don't like to try different stuff. I was always adventurous in my cuisine choices, it is probably one of the things that has kept this all a lot easier for me. I for one like to try and spread the word about Celiac Disease so that other who may not have thought to otherwise will take a serious look at their diet and may help to...

ARCHIVED Bad Mood... Really Discouraged.
TotalKnowledge replied to Newbie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Bake up a big batch of gluten free brownies with exlax in them. The results will be similar without all the extra damage. Seriously eating gluten will only make you feel worse. If you wouldn't do the above, why would you eat gluten? -

PT's Grill? I work across the road from PT's grill. Well the one near Wrightsville anyway. There is a new one in Porter's Neck. There is also a Cook Out on College road that I am sure is biting into their profit margin. None of which I can eat I might point out lol. I also stopped eating pork No NC BBQ for me. -
ARCHIVED What Is The Point Of Diagnosis?
TotalKnowledge replied to TotalKnowledge's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with what you are saying here. Early on in my readings of gluten intolerance, it seemed to be more like that gluten/gliadin was acting like a toxin. Many of the Celiac response seems like what would happen if someone were exposed to a mild toxin over a long period of time. If you look at what would happen if you took a test group of mice, and introduced... -
ARCHIVED What Is The Point Of Diagnosis?
TotalKnowledge replied to TotalKnowledge's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I personally feel that Celiac Disease and Gluten Intolerance are the same thing. Not even with Celiac being on the sever end. There are plenty of other problems that are just as sever as the villus atrophy. I also think it is a much broader problem than certainly the medical community is treating it as. If we had not been eating wheat since recorded... -
ARCHIVED How Many People Are Actually Self-diagnosed?
TotalKnowledge replied to no-more-muffins's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am self diagnosed. I also have no desire what so ever to confirm that diagnosis. As far back as I can remember I have always been in pain, suffered depression/anxiety/mania, had tummy problems, muscle fatigue, insomnia, and the list goes on. After going gluten free I feel better than I have felt in a long time. My peripheral neuropathy has been... -
ARCHIVED What Is The Point Of Diagnosis?
TotalKnowledge replied to TotalKnowledge's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have also seen an overwhelming amount of literature that states that Celiac disease is defined by villus atrophy. Take for example this site: Open Original Shared Link I have also seen what you are referring to described as non-celiac gluten intolerance. For example in the book "Healthier Without Wheat" the author describes gluten intolerance as... -

The post you are linking to talks about the lady that is suing Hasselbeck. If the Celiac Foundation to which that reference is made means the website that these boards are on, then I would incorage you to read this. https://www.celiac.com/blogs/153/Did-Elisab...-Free-Diet.html That doesn't sound like any sort of admonishment over her book. -
ARCHIVED What Is The Point Of Diagnosis?
TotalKnowledge replied to TotalKnowledge's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
While I personally would agree with you about being gluten intolerant, I have read many times (and had my doctor tell me) that the "definitive diagnosis" is through biopsy. Many of the problems associated seem to go way beyond the villi however and extend to most systems in the body. Gluten intolerance seems like the actual parent problem. Villus atrophy... -
ARCHIVED When Does The Constant Hunger Go Away?
TotalKnowledge replied to River*'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have been gluten free for about a month and a half. I did experience a little bit of extra hunger in the beginning, but it doesn't bother me any more. I do eat a little different from most people however. I eat many small meals throughout the day instead of a few large meals. Six ~300 to ~335 calorie meals in a day = 1800 to 2010 calories per day... -
ARCHIVED Glutened....myself To See...i Dont Understand?
TotalKnowledge replied to mindyandy420's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You can always try not eating gluten for a while and see if you feel better. If you do there may not be so strong a reason to get tested. If you know something effects you badly it is easier to cut it out. If at some point you want to get tested for piece of mind you can do a challenge. A challenge while eating gluten isn't really going to tell you... -
ARCHIVED How Long To Expose Child That Has Not Been Exposed
TotalKnowledge replied to marmar's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would think it would be safer to assume she has it. There really is no reason that I can think of that a child that young *should* eat wheat. It can be avoided much easier than adults can avoid it. Right now she can't tell you how the introduction of gluten is effecting her. An older child can more easily express their discomfort with any of the problems... -
ARCHIVED What Is The Point Of Diagnosis?
TotalKnowledge posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I see many threads that discus getting diagnosed. Some people assuredly want a diagnosis, and want to know if it is wheat allergy, gluten intolerance, or some other condition. Others like myself just assume that they have it and go from there. If not eating gluten makes you feel better, what if any benefit do you get from a diagnosis? If... -
ARCHIVED Sudden Pain In The Back Of The Head
TotalKnowledge posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have always had times when I get a sudden sharp burning pain in the back of my head when move my head quickly. I used to get it a lot when I sneezed, but I learned to not move my head when sneezing. I always associated it with a pressure that I felt at the base of the skull. The pressure has subsided with the gluten free diet, but this morning I had...
