  1. If you have eliminated Gluten, then additional food intolerances could be exacerbating your conditions. Pinning down a food intolerance is hard to do since there can be a delay between eating the food, and a variable time that the symptoms persist. I would say talk with your doctor, but some doctors are more receptive to helping you with food intolerances...
  2. I do not believe either rice or corn contain gluten, unless it has been added or is cross contaminated.
  3. It would make sense if they *can*. Not many other substances are as ubiquitous in the typical modern diet as wheat however. Since someone with a gluten intolerance can not subconsciously avoid gluten it might do more damage to the intestine. Just my supposition there. No scientific backing or proof.
  4. It could have to do with Histamine levels. Several of the problems associated with Celiac's disease are also associated with either low or high histamine levels in the blood. I haven't been gluten free for all that long, but I have not had a headache since I started, nor joint pain...
  5. My sister has been diagnosed with Hemochromatosis. She has been very ill for some time. They have also scheduled her for a test for celiac. Her blood tests came back normal. She has already started to remove gluten from her diet to see if she feels better. It has made so many of my problems better that she is going to give it a try. She of course...
  6. There seems to be a genetic component to Celiac's Disease. It is well within reason that you could have it as well. There can be a withdrawal period when starting a gluten free diet. If you notice some things bothering you more, and others bothering you less, this could be what is happening.
  7. I would be concerned with the body switching off the immune response without some research going into why the body is reacting negatively to the gluten. Are the related autoimmune problems related to the bodies immune response or is it related to the bodies inability to process gluten? For example if the body is not digesting and breaking down the Gliadin...
  8. Have you noticed it getting any better or worse after taking a histamine blocker such as Benadryl? I have not had near the pain around my eye area since going gluten free (although that hasn't been that long) I have always had pain in and around my eyes. Including acute attacks of it where the only way I can describe it is a strobe flash behind my eye...
  9. Part of what has been happening to my sister is seizures. More over sticking with a gluten free diet has helped me with my restless leg syndrome, insomnia, and the general thrashing I used to do at night. The benefits of maintaining a gluten free diet go way beyond any intestinal discomfort. If you know you have it I would stick to the diet.
  10. I apparently do, although I never knew what it was. Many people in my family also have it. Is there a link between this and Celiac's?
  11. I am certainly going to stick with it. My withdrawal seems to be expressed as rotating through my various problems. They are both more intense and different than normal. Right now my fingers are exploding with little blister like bumps. I typically get one or two, and occasionally little collonies of them. But they are all over my hands right now,...
  12. It certainly makes more sense to me that this would be an underlying factor, and that all of the co-morbid conditions, disease and other problems all have a common underlying reason. This view point has wide ranging implications not only in the way some medical conditions are approached but also in way that the Human species has developed. It is generally...
  13. The highly unreliable wikipedea has produced the following article. Open Original Shared Link Which would suggest to me that the protein gliadin may be a mild neurotoxin, of which some people can metabolize while others can't. This would make sense as to how it effects different people differently based not only on how well your body breaks gliadin...
  14. Have your symptoms resolved? While researching my family of ailments in my recent self diagnosis... I found that a lot of my symptoms match up to Lupus. I don't want my doctor to think I am a hypochondriac so I am thinking I will just wait and see if the symptoms get better with a gluten free diet.
  15. It certainly makes sense that it would effect you more the longer you have gone without. Eating something everyday makes you build up an immunity to it. In the absence of that item the immunity will go away and a slight exposure will have full impact. Think of how someone with a drinking problem isn't that effected by one drink, if they stop drinking...
  16. I greatly reduced my gluten intake on the 3rd, and quit completely about mid day on the 5th. With the possible exception of when I ate out at a restaurant have not had any gluten. I seem to be rotating through various chronic problems, but am having them one at a time rather than together. As a whole though I feel much better. My muscle fatigue and...
  17. There is a tendency in medicine to look at specific criteria categorize it, slap a label on it and call it a disease. It could be that the terms Celiac Disease, Gluten Intolerance, and Wheat Allergy are all the same basic problem. An inability of the body to process wheat gluten. The specific criteria of Celiac's Disease as I understand it is an autoimmune...
  18. It seems like a certified diagnosis is some what superfluous. After all the end result will be that you stop eating gluten. Seems a contradictory concept to eat gluten, so that the doctor can tell you not to eat gluten. I am actually extremely new to this myself. I stopped eating gluten last Friday. Three days into it I feel better than I have felt...
  19. I just started a gluten free diet, but for the last couple days I have been having periods where I feel a lot worse. Especially with having confusion and brain fog. I am actually experiencing it right now, so forgive me if this has already been answered (my ability to google might be impaired.) I would make sense to me that there would be a period of...
