ARCHIVED For Those Of You With Physician Diagnosis
Karrin replied to JBaby's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think I've lost a pound or two after starting the diet, just because toward the end (before I was diagnosed) I was so sick to my stomach I was eating nothing but bread and crackers, which I thought would ease my nausea (ouch!). I have noticed things taste good again and I am hungry more, probably because I'm not sick to my stomach anymore and my appetite... -
ARCHIVED Is It Really Best To Just Avoid Restaurants?
Karrin replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm one of those that gets severely ill for weeks after even the smallest single crumb of gluten, but I've still been able to eat out!! The trick is to be extra careful and do your research. I believe there is even a website online where you can look for local places that have gluten free menus. I'm sure a google search would bring it up. I love mexican... -
About a week into the diet I felt 100%, and then about a week later, felt as bad as I had before going gluten free (a cross contamination contributed, no doubt). It's been about 2 months and I still am very on and off. This week has been quite good again - if I were a gas tank I'd say I'm about 35-45% at the start of the day where before I was at a 5, and...

ARCHIVED What Are Your "glutened" Symptoms?
Karrin replied to LauraZ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think I have something like this, though with all my other problems I've not really thought to bring it up to a doctor again (the first and only time I did he treated me like I was nuts and decided I had anxiety disorder - needless to say he was dropped for a new doc). It has gotten better since I quit all caffeine, but my heart will, on occasion, go from... -
ARCHIVED What Are Your "glutened" Symptoms?
Karrin replied to LauraZ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm still relatively newly diagnosed (2 months), but the last time I was cross contaminated it took me out for at least 2 weeks, with other symptoms persisting close to a month or more (mostly joint pain and bloating). When I'm glutened severe fatigue is the worst, I'm bedridden until it passes. Lower back pain, constipation (usually, sometimes I have... -
I'm very sorry to hear that. Has your doctor ordered blood tests to check your hormone levels? I hope it turns out okay for you! Try to stay optimistic dear.

ARCHIVED Purging The Gluten From My House/kitchen - Tips?
Karrin replied to ruhbehka's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I react to lotions and shampoos/conditioners, hand soaps, sunblock etc as well as food. I've also read to toss any wooden spoons in the kitchen as the wood holds onto the gluten even after a wash. Check her vitamins (if she takes them) and cold medicines. I've set aside two special pots and pans just for gluten free cooking and that has seemed to help as... -
Thanks everybody! I've jotted down your suggestions. I just hope my local shops carry most of them!

I've stumbled through and wasted so much money (and time writing very unhelpful companies) in search of a body & facial lotion I can use without having a reaction. I find the chemical names for wheat overwhelming and I'm already super annoyed label reading everything else when I shop (I HATE shopping!!) and even then I think it must be hiding in the fragrance...

Thank you everyone. My doctor ran some blood tests and confirmed what I already knew. I miscarried. I'm trying to remain optimistic. I hope the miracle will happen again. Dream77 - I'm not sure what my test results were, but I recall the doctor talking about 3 different things - antibodies I believe, and the first of the three were what tested the most...

Thanks for the help everyone, but I'm pretty sure I lost the baby last night. I woke up with horrible cramps and have been passing large clots since. It isn't as heavy as my regular periods, but I think it's heavy enough that it is headed that way.

Thank you! I'm still pretty bewildered! I've been tested for anemia many times in the past and am always normal. I believe that one at least was an iron level test. I do feel anemic often though. The iron supplement I've been taking is a calcium combo (or vitamin c I'd have to double check). I don't see my obgyn for another 3 1/2 weeks. Ugh! I'm still waiting...

I just found out I'm pregnant (took the test this morning!!). This was unexpected to say the least. My husband and I had been trying to conceive for quite some time before I was diagnosed with endometriosis and was told my tubes seemed, for unknown reasons, blocked. We were told we would likely need IVF if we wanted children. Years went by, I was becoming...

ARCHIVED Coeliacs Reversed?
Karrin replied to Saffy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have you looked into other immunological problems? Had a full thyroid & parathyroid workup recently? They're all worth a look into if your still experiences lots of fatigue and adhering to the diet (though of course, I'd keep an eye out for other food intolerances as everyone here has advised). I was recently diagnosed as having celiacs and I also have... -
ARCHIVED Exhaustion
Karrin replied to BeautifulDay's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm having the same trouble, but in the past I've had my thyroid tested and it's always been reported back to me as being normal. I'm curious if you ever had yours tested prior to your celiac diagnosis and had a normal result? -
I took a look and I actually eat very similar to the guidelines they have posted! Lots of fresh fruit for snacks and veggies and fresh meat like chicken for meals, natural decaff teas (I have a sensitivity to caffeine). It's a rare thing that I eat processed foods, especially after being diagnosed. I did have a little breakdown a week or two back and I got...

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I might eventually look into some of them, but right now I find the nightshade family remote as being the culprit. I've had maybe one tomato the whole month of June and one hot dog - and its been awhile. My spices have been basic (salt & pepper - if any) and I've not had any eggplants etc. Right now nothing and...

ARCHIVED The Ups And Downs Of Recovery
Karrin replied to no-more-muffins's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I began my gluten free diet about a month ago now and I've had a pretty similar experience as you. I too had a few sluggish days, followed by five incredible ones, followed and still continuing return of my symptoms. Today is one of my worst, but I was happy to see my belly bloat had finally disappeared this morning, though after eating lunch it has returned... -
More responses from various companies. Colgate has been the most helpful thus far. The rest are disappointing, to say the least: Thank you for contacting us with your question. We appreciate the opportunity to provide information regarding grain derived ingredients in Colgate Palmolive products. We do not intentionally add gluten to the following Colgate...

I used to love Garnier, but a year or so ago I noticed it started leaving this strange film in my hair no matter how long I sat under the spout - almost like I hadn't washed all of the product out. I actually was worried it was another bizarre symptom of what was wrong with me, which at that time I had no idea what that was. I was pretty bummed though. I...

I've had so many of the symptoms you've described. The head fog has yet to return in force, but at my worst I couldn't even concentrate long enough to read a sentence. I understand completely. It's absolute torment having all your faculties stripped away until your little more than a vegetable. I had to quit my job about four years back because I just hadn...

I've written a few companies and will be posting their responses here for all of you as they come in. Hope this helps... looks like I need to find a new deodorant. (I don't know about the rest of you, but the second paragraph is extremely disturbing to me. A lot of what we put on our skin is absorbed through it into our bloodstream!!) ------ ...
