ARCHIVED Who Is Responsible For Making Sure There's Something Safe To Eat?
Googles replied to maria714's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It is hard to deal with someone when they are angry. But remember that this mom is probably overwhelmed. She may be reacting to her child's stress at not being able to eat what her friends are eating. I'm an adult and provide my own food, but still sometimes get frustrated with having to bring my own food. I don't expect others to provide food for me, but... -
This isn't from any blood testing. I know I need to get that done. This is from effects on my body: insomnia, digestive trouble, muscle and joint pain, irritability, trouble concentrating. I'm guessing that I'm going to need to do a diet record. I know I should go to the doctor to get blood tests done, but I HATE going to the doctor as a kid we only went...

Thank you for the answer. I'm not trying to over think it. I'm just trying to figure out where there is gluten getting into my body. It is definitely getting in and I have gone over again and again to try and find ingredients that might contain gluten, but everything is coming back clean. So trying to find other ways it might be sneaking in. And my kitchen...

ARCHIVED Best Medication For Coping With D?
Googles replied to I-want-nachos's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I use Immodium too. I use the liquid when able to because I feel like it calms my stomach faster than the tablet and it is tolerable taste wise. And I hate swallowing pills. -
Hi. I was wondering about labeling laws in the US. I was wondering if products that are processed in the same facilities or on the same lines as products that contain wheat are required to be labeled as such. I was looking at dried fruit the other day and was glad I looked at the ingredient list because even though it didn't have wheat in it, it did say...

I've been having recurrent nightmares about not having anything that I can eat. My dream is that I'm in college (I haven't been in undergrad for almost 10 years, but am thinking about going back to grad school). I wasn't diagnosed with celiac in college (though I'm pretty sure I've had it since child hood). The food is all buffet style and in my dream every...

ARCHIVED Most Ridiculous Gluten Comment I've Heard
Googles replied to C-Girl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had two doosies in the last couple of weeks, both from work. I had a colleague ask me if I could eat fruit salad (only had fruit in it, no toppings). Another situation: I had a supervisor (who has a MA) ask me if I could have white bread because she wasn't sure if it had wheat in it. -
ARCHIVED Ocd/gad And Ncgi/celiac?
Googles replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My worst symptoms aren't the digestive ones (though those do suck) they are my ones related to depression and anxiety and insomnia that happen when I get glutened. As the others have said, they can make these symptoms worse. -
Thank you everyone for your support. It helps to know that other people don't think I'm over sensitive. That has always been used to minimize how I'm feeling. It makes it hard to know if I'm over reacting. I hate having at share computers at work. Because I drive so much for work, I don't actually have my own computer at work, instead it is a number of shared...

It seems to me in the last couple weeks there have been multiple times when gluten free has been made a joke of by friiends and/or co-workers. It really makes me angry when this happens. That people seem to think it is somethng that it is okay to make jokes about it. it doesn't seem like people would make fun of other illnesses. But it is okay to make fun...

ARCHIVED Boy Did I Throw The Hospital For A Loop!
Googles replied to sarahdea's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm so glad you are home now. That sounds like an awful experience. I am terrified of having to go to the hospital and being admitted at some point. I don't have anyone who lives near me who understands what it means to be gluten free. I have friends, but no significant other and I live alone. I better stay healthy and not end up in the hospital. -
I am outside my regular reaction time. So I'm going to assume that the processing got rid of the gluten. The bag that I had only said that the syrup was made from wheat (didn't give corn as an option.) But I feel like I got safe by the skin of my teeth. A good reminder to always check labels.

It was mini rollos. I was half asleep and didn't realize they were mini until after I started eating them. Thanks for all your help.
-
Yes I wish it was just me worrying over nothing. When it tasted weird I checked the label. It said it had wheat. I forgot the first rule always check the label. I was half asleep and still had 2 more hours of work. I didn't realize these went the regular size until I started eating them. Please don't yell at me. I am kicking myself enough already...

I'm waiting to get sick. I accidentily ate something with gluten tonight. I forgot to check. The full size candy was gluten free, but not the minis. So Ii guess I will be able to check my exact reaction time. I hate gluten!!!!!!!!!!! I was so exhausted when this happened and it is just going to get worse before it gets better. Anything I should do between...

Thanks everyone. I have trouble being assertive. I know that I am a people pleaser which makes this harder. I don't want to make other people uncomfrotable. This is the first time I've actually had someone specifically say it makkes them uncomfortable, but it was all my work colleagues could talk about every time we went out to eat. I think I've got my work...

ARCHIVED Glutened Myself How Long Will This Take
Googles replied to langone7's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't want to depress you, but my symptoms can last 3-4 months if I actually eat something with gluten in it rather than just something that is cross contaminated. Last time I ate something I was able to identify as having gluten as an ingredient (after being told it was gluten free) I had digestive problems for a month or so and emotional problems for... -
I need some advice on how to deal with social issues with friends. So a little history. I've never been easy with social situations. I've always had social anxiety and depression (which the worst of it was probably secondary to celiac anyway.) When I was in school I really couldn't do much socially because I had absolutely no spare money even to do things...

ARCHIVED Taking This Too Seriously, Or Not Seriously Enough? Get Rid Of Pets Too?
Googles replied to GFAnnie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would suggest getting a gluten free dog food for your dog. I know that when the cat food I feed my cats changed their formula and had gluten in it I started geting gllutened and had to figure out where it came from. Even though you aren't eating the dog food, if your dog likes to lick you or you pet it, you have the chance for cross contamination or from... -

ARCHIVED Need Help With Education To Give To Others.
Googles posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was wondering if there are any pamphlets or educational materials that people know of from reputable sources (ie not blog posts as those can be seen as opinion and not fact not that a lot of them aren't wonderful) about the dangers of cross contamination when cooking. I'm trying to educate my therapist on how careful I have to be as she doesn't understand... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cat Food Help.
Googles replied to Googles's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks. I hadn't even thought about trying to take the bag back. I got it at petco so hopefully they will take it back even though I already opened it. Yeah, one of my kitties is a little piggy too, the other one is really skinny. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cat Food Help.
Googles posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hello. I'm not sure if this is the right forum, so please move it if necessary. So Hills Science Diet just changed their food formulation for their cat food and it is no longer gluten free (dry foood). I could not figure out what it was that was getting me until I was goiing back over what was new in my home. I bought a new bag of cat food. So I was wondering... -
ARCHIVED Post Here To Join Celiac.com's Online Support Group With Live Chat Meetings! (Free)
Googles replied to Scott Adams's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I am interested. I would be able to make the on line chat as long as it isn't when I'm working (which is way too many hours.) -
Thanks everyone. My family has a long history of being verbally/emotionally abusive towards me. So it just continues the family pastime.
