The genetic testing wont tell you if you have celiac, but it will tell you if you have one or both of the two identified genes that cause celiac.

Hello. I have had to deal with this with my therapist. I have a new therapist now than I did when I was diagnosed. It was months for me between the blood tests and the endoscopy so my first therapist got to learn all about celiac as I was learning. It seemed for a while I was talking with everyone about what I was learning as a way to cope. However...

I will be traveling to Chicago with family in 2 weeks. I was wondering if people had recommendations on good Restaurants there. I will be there for 3 days. We will have a car to get around. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm meeting up in Chicago with my family. None of us live there. I was wondering if people have suggestions for restaurants there that are good. I will be there for 3 days. Any recommendations would be wonderful. Thx.

I've been gluten free for 6 years this month from the day after I got my diagnosis. It is hard to believe that it has been that long. I knew I needed to go gluten free immediately or I would keep putting it off. I've learned so much. I'm so glad that I am feeling better. I am still emotionally coping with having to give up dairy about 2 months ago but I...

ARCHIVED Acid Reflux Contuinues... Help!
Googles replied to Tigercat17's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I found my cat's food was causing me problems. I transferred them over to gluten free food and it helped cut down my gluten cc a lot. Even thought I washed after feeding them and before cooking, they liked to clean themselves after eating and I think that it was then transferring to me and things they moved around to in the house. I also second that... -
Thanks everyone. My supervisor went in and wiped everything down and vacuumed. I'm hoping that does the trick. I was in the room for a couple hours the other day and it was okay (whereas before the cleaning I got really sick before the cleaning.) So i'm hoping it is better. I'm just waiting to go into the other office to make sure it has been cleaned. It...

I started having intermittent problems with D and it ended up being dairy that was causing problems. I removed that and things got better. Good luck.- 6 replies

I drive for work too and have to find foods that I can eat while between jobs. I use sting cheese (well used to before having to go dairy free), carrots (i buy baby carrots and throw them into a bag), chips (I find corn chips work best), beef jerky (oberto brand original is gluten free), pepperoni (I just use sliced pizza pepperoni), there are these crackers...

They did construction at work last week. I spent a couple hours in the room where it was done last Friday and then was sooo sick on Friday night. I have asked my supervisor to have everything wiped down and the room vacuumed. While this wasn't at my main site, they are also doing construction at my main site where I work. What else needs to be done to make...

ARCHIVED Good News And Bad News And Need Some Help
Googles replied to Googles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This giving up dairy thing is ending up being so much harder emotionally than giving up gluten was. I'm sure if I was just giving up dairy and could still have gluten it wouldn't be this hard. It is really both of them on top of each other. One of my clients was talking about pizza today and it made me so sad. When I was first diagnosed with celiac I reminded... -
ARCHIVED Good News And Bad News And Need Some Help

I didn't actually know about the inflammation in the colon from the first time until my new GI was looking at my records. My new GI mentioned that it was in the same place this time as the first time I got scoped. I moved right after my initial dx so this is really the first time I've done much to follow up medically except for being gluten free as the first... -

ARCHIVED Good News And Bad News And Need Some Help
Googles replied to Googles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My digestive tract is much happier now that I am dairy free. But I'm definitely feeling some depression about it. I tried some Silk milk, but didn't like the thickness of it. So I will be trying something else soon. I was happy to find out that my donuts don't have dairy. Does anyone know what I can substitute for butter in baking? Thanks. -
ARCHIVED Good News And Bad News And Need Some Help

Thank you both. My doctor wants me to be really strict at first. Ugh. So much stuff has dairy in it. I feel like I'm back to the figuring out what is gluten free again. I'm just trying to figure out what for now I can have for meals. As all my easy go tos have diary. -
ARCHIVED Good News And Bad News And Need Some Help
Googles posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The good news: The biopsy of my small intestine and blood work show no sign of celiac. Yay for the gluten free diet working and all my careful eating. Yes I will continue to eat gluten free, but nice to know the hard work is paying off. The bad news: They don't know what is causing the inflammation in my colon (which apparently .is in the exact same... -
ARCHIVED Chef That Wants To Borrow Your Shoes...i'm Taking A Walk
Googles replied to allergiescooked's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
If you wear makeup you are going to have to check with the makeup companies to make sure that the makeup you are wearing is gluten free. Also check out your soaps and conditioner and facial products, lotions etc. Most of the information lines are only open 9-5. Check any over the counter medication that you take for gluten. Good Luck. -
ARCHIVED Halloween Celiac Stereotypes
Googles replied to kenlove's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't think it is funny. While we can see it as a comment on the larger aspects of society, kids with celiac (and other medical conditions) are bullied by other kids enough. They don't need to be made fun of by adults too. Even if it is social commentary. A kid who sees this isn't going to see the social commentary, just another thing that shows it is okay... -
ARCHIVED Chef That Wants Your Feedback
Googles replied to allergiescooked's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Hi, I just saw this thread. I have a number of issues. 1) Trust: Being able to trust the restaurant that I want to eat at. That they aren't going to make me sick because they are doing stupid things. The one that blew me the way the most and has kept me from eating anything at their restaurant was when I went and they had their french fries on their gluten... -
I found I was getting glutened when I ate at shared computers at work. It forced me to take a break to actually eat lunch.
-
Thank you everyone. This is the first time I've had to deal with this as most people stopped giving me food once I was diagnosed. This relative being the exception.
-
I got food as gifts from my extended relatives. They often give food as gifts. Last year my relative searched a lot for a baking mix that went with a cookbook and was gluten free. But I don't think they really understand what gluten free means. This year everything she sent me food wise contained gluten. I am very thankful for the gifts that they gave me...

ARCHIVED Depression Went Away After 5 Months?
Googles replied to xrisx's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Depressive episodes are one of my symptoms of being glutened. I had horrid depression growing up and was hospitalized because of suicidal ideation. Now I only get suicidal like that after being glutened. Sometimes I still get depressed, but not nearly so bad. So yes depression can clear up because of being gluten free.
