  1. Oh Jason! You CAN go out to eat; there are many chains with gluten-free menus....PFChangs, Outback, Lonestar, Wendy's (not that you'd take a girl or clients there); I saw another poster say Applebees was her fav place to eat. You need to get the Essential Gluten Free Restaurant Guide; it has lots of tips on how to speak to the waitstaff when you go to ensure...
  2. OK-so I'm already a mom of 4; just started gluten-free 2 months ago, as it improved my 3 month old's health whom I am nursing.......I've had this "feeling" the last few days that starting to remind me of something else I've experienced with each of my pregnancies. Can someone please inform me of some type of vitamin deficiency with these symptoms..........
  3. blistovmhz- To qualify myself, I am an optometrist.......what you are describing and those posters from 2 years ago is a severe allergic conjunctivitis caused by exposure to whatever you're allergic to. The best treatment is, of course, first to limit exposure but also there are a couple of really good anti-allergy eyedrops. 1. Is an Rx so you'd...
  4. Sorry, lawspike, to here about your troubles. Maybe it wasn't the tannins, you should call the company on the craisins......I have a friend who said she got glutened by craisins due to a coating process or something.
  5. I'm not trying to worry you or make you overly paranoid, I know a lot of people's sensitivities vary greatly. My daughter seems so far to maybe be one of the sensitive types-so I tend to be overly cautious. We are still trying to get her antibodies to a normal range after a year and a half of being gluten free (or so we thought) so I am very precautious...
  6. I wasn't really concerned about dye being in the syrup, but rather gluten possibly in the "artificial flavor". I didn't mean to confuse the issue by mentioning dye; I was just making the point that she is recurrently moody, and I thought I had it nailed eliminating the dye-until today when she consumed the syrup (among other things, but this was the only...
  7. I think such a situation would be something like this....you take kiddies to the park, they play, climb on the equipment and have lots of fun. You brought along a gluten-free picnic basket and want young celiac to "wash hands" before touching her gluten-free sandwich. You never know what other kids have slimed onto the insides of those slides! Wipes are...
  8. I have called hershey's regarding their chocolate syrup and gotten what I consider an inconclusive answer.....no ingredients, but no guarantee either basically. What I'm wondering is does anyone, from experience, have an opinion. We tried in 4yo dd's milk this am and she is severely devilish, according to my hubby, who is home with her today. This...
  9. For me it was always hungry before starting the gluten-free diet.....only been two months, but much less feelings of starvation.
  10. Good question Tim86, I am wondering the same thing. If a "gluten-intolerant" person cannot be detected by antibodies or endoscopy, even though they have symptoms, wouldn't it stand to reason that simply lowering the gluten intake enough to alleviate symptoms would be OK, since there isn't an actual autoimmune component harming their intestines? Does anyone...
  11. elliebelle-i meant to write this in my first post to you, but forgot; but it goes along with what everyone else is saying about needing the protein-my favorite is a big mixed green salad (you can by it by the bad alread pre-cleaned and mixed in the produce section at walmart) with hard-boiled eggs, nuts (any type, i like pecans), & raisins; you can also...
  12. YES, I felt the same way when I first made it too! FYI I also had the same reaction to Kinnikinnick donuts-they are soooooo yummy and gluten-free/dairy free.
  13. I was just wondering about this same topic last night! I was reading about how celiacs are often vit B12 deficient and THOUGHT that was what they had told me to take to help my terrible morning sickness (didn't stick in my mind because it never really touched my nausea). It turned out that it was B6......so I just though oh I guess not. I will be very...
  14. elliebelle-oh you poor thing, can you come to live at my house??? how hard it must be when all your old foods are staring you in the face.... maybe you can go do your own shopping/or even shop for foods online? do you have a job or even your own money to buy gluten-free foods? maybe you can ask your doctor or dietician to help educate your parents on...
  15. I would also like to hear many answers to this same question. My now 4 yo dd was diagnosed at age 2 1/2 and her IgAtTG was over 1000 (yes, that's 3 zeros!) initially. At 3 months, they were down to the 300 range. I was scared to get them checked again due to them still being so high. I thought we must be doing something wrong. After 17 months on...
  16. Megan, I don't think there are any DEFINITE items that you can always assume are gluten-free. It seems like refried beans and corn tortilla chips would be fine, but I guess you never know about cross contamination. FYI our local Mexican rest. adds "just a little bit" of flour to their ground beef to thicken it. . . . I think you need to ask about...
  17. I continue to be grateful that her classmate's mother recognized the symptoms in my child as possible Celiac's - her daughter was diagnosed at age 2 - and pointed us in the right direction. God knows how much more my gal could have suffered.
  18. It does sound like a lot of your daughter's symptoms do point to celiac. My daughter is a diagnosed celiac (through IgA ttG and endoscopy) so my other children are screened annually. My son was recently diagnosed as IgA deficient, so the blood screenings won't show the antibodies. I'm not sure if they never checked the total IgA the first time he was screened...
  19. Our whole family just had gluten-free pizza for dinner tonight....we love the "Kinnikinnick" brand and it's super-easy. It's a frozen crust, you just put on your fav toppings then bake for 15 minutes. You can order it directly from their website, or I get it from our local health food store. Kinnikinnick also has IMHO the best gluten-free white sandwhich...
  20. I am also curious how you all found out about all your additional food sensitivities...testing or symptoms alone??? My daughter is celiac and I am trying to figure out if something else is also bothering her. We tackled the gluten alright, but now I'm reading all these posters' signatures that list other food sensitivities-I'm not sure how to figure it...
  21. My daughter is diagnosed celiac and I am still learning what I need to know. I have been reading a lot and notice sometimes celiac is classified as a gluten intolerance, but then other times gluten intolerance seems like it's referring to something altogether different, in its own category. Does anyone have a medical explanation for what the difference...
  22. Your poor little ones! I think it's easy to see a pattern lloking back after the fact, but sometimes when it's happening it's more difficult unless you're actually graphing it and can see the downward trend. My #2DD (the first and only one in our family actually diagnosed) showed a much more gradual path going down in the %tiles; she didn't REALLY start...
  23. Hi everyone- I have recently been reading and learning a lot about celiac and dh, since two of my children have been on a gluten-free diet-only one child is officially diagnosed as celiac-but I'm pretty sure the other one has it too and I am nursing her so I'm on the diet too. Anyway, what I'm wondering is DH would respond at all to antibiotics? Does...
  24. Ithere a way to group all of the topic which you have posted or replied to from all the different rooms into one spot? So far I have had to read through each one at a time; very time consuming.
