  1. I developed an allergy to soy, oats, and corn (amongst other foods) soon after going gluten-free - it happens when the gut is still damaged from Celiac. You may wanna get a blood test for other food allergies so you can avoid the foods that hurt you. This will help you heal (yes, the other allergies can go away even if Celiac doesn't).
  2. I agree with Skylark - you're setting yourself up for trouble, and then what? Your problems can be so much worse; you're going to have to face them eventually, so why not now when you're young and can heal? I wish I could still be only gluten free, but now I have to follow a completely grain and dairy free diet because of all the damage Celiac did to my...
  3. Eggs & dairy seem to cause problems for people with a compromised intestine but this doesn't seem to have any link to gluten. After reading Elaine Gottschall's book Breaking the Vicious Cycle, I began to understand how and why other foods can bother us. Evidently, gluten is not inherently evil. You may want to check it out to learn more. I think Leaky...
  4. LoraW76 - I'm sorry you've had to enter the gluten-free world but it's not so terrible when you know what to do to take care of yourself. Definitely do some online research so you'll know what to look out for and maybe learn some tips for how to deal with Celiac. One of the basic laws of eating gluten-free is NEVER NEVER NEVER eat anything that has touched...
  5. Oreilly, Eggs are tricky boogers. I was eating them for breakfast this summer quite regularly with no problem until one day I got terrible cramps and burning, like acid reflux. I never have this problem with any of my many other allergies & sensitivities so I was confused. I did eventually give them up when I made the connection and all was well...
  6. Moms & Dads, Don't be discouraged! Digestive issues aren't black and white. When I discovered that I am Celiac ( I was almost 18 and am now getting closer to 20), I thought it'd be as simple as cutting out gluten. I was wrong! Gluten sensitivity and allergy can cause a number of other issues like leaky gut, as is my case, other allergies, as is...
  7. Hello everybody, I have a question about my GI Pro Health yogurt starter. I was going home from college on a break and had the probiotics in the car 5 hours with two frozen "ice"-like bags inside a container. When I got home, though, the bags were room temp. I immediately put the starter in the refrigerator and have made a batch of yogurt. The first...
  8. Hello there, I too suffer am Celiac and am a self diagnosed leaky gut sufferer. Dairy is the #1 place to start but if that doesnt work, check out the SCD or a rotation diet. I reccomend checking out the Breaking the Vicious Cycle website if it comes to this, whether or not you choose to do the diet. At least the home-made yogurt would probably still...
  9. Hey Jesse, I'm a student at Western Carolina University in NC and live in a dorm (without a kitchen!). One thing I have to say, you can do it! I don't know how restricted your diet already, or how much of a change this will be for you, but no worries. I want to encourage you to buy a yogurt maker (I use a EuroCuisine electric) with single serving jars...
  10. You may have a problem with a leaky gut, bacteria, yeast, allergy, or sensitivity. That's a list of not so great possibilities but you should know; I had problems with peanuts too after giving up gluten, along with other things like dairy, soy, corn, and oats. And the thing is, it took a long time for me to notice the reactions, so I would eat them long...
  11. Hello everybody! I just want to say that even though I am going through a rough patch with C, when first starting the diet (it hasn't been 2 months) I started having BMs like I hadnt since before all the troubles began, several years ago now. I believe I'm just going through either a relapse or I've encountered something that's upset my system. My...
  12. Wow! My problems sound just like the ones you were having. I'm trying to do the SCD and have desired for a while to do a rotation diet; it's hard in college without a kitchen but it sounds so much more promising to me now. Thank you for posting! Do you think if I don't get a sensitivity test, bad reactions to food will set me behind the healing schedule...
  13. First, the constipation could cause pressure on the bladder, making you have to urinate more often. I've had times, too, where I thought I had an infection but it would go away within a few days. However, you should treat it if that is indeed what it is, I just thought I'd say I can relate and my issues with that do come and go occasionally. You don...
  14. Hi there I was just wondering, a lot of the time with Leaky Gut, Celiac, and even in Breaking the Vicious Cycle, diarrhea is emphasized as a major problem, but seriously D would be sweet relief for me right now. Is there anyone else who has trouble with chronic C? I have been trying to do the SCD but have worse C than I've had in a while, though I don...
  15. Have you eaten quinoa before going gluten-free? If you haven't, it may be the culprit. I don't know if you get bloated with your C but if you do, pay attention to whatever makes you feel that way. Beans, grains, fruits - whatever causes discomfort. I used to tell myself it was just normal but it's not. After going gluten-free you will almost def...
  16. Hey lolo! I hate the walk you are going through, since I can relate. I used to practically starve myself early in highschool because at 5'7" 104 lbs I thought I was fat. It was running track along with my track coach that made me realize we are blessed to have bodies that can do so much, if we help them out. You eat to live. Otherwise, you die or...
  17. hey rob, do you know if you're celiac? I just read helgih's post and can also relate to many of the symptoms. I do have Celiac and think I have leaky gut and candida issues. How'd you find out you had leaky gut and candida? If you still have brain fog problems and do not know if you have celiac disease, you should totally get tested. I'm gluten...
  18. I LOVE JESUS!!! And I'm so glad you do too! I, too, have longed for Celiac brothers and sisters in Christ as a source of strength and accountability. YAY FOR YOU ALL! I know that God made me a Celiac for a reason, though I don't fully understand that yet. I know that He did like to teach using parables and is teaching me many lessons about receiving...
  19. I believe millet is its own grain, not just a rice product. It is very small and has been used since ancient times in the East. Of course, we never see it here in the wheat & corn eat'n West. I've never noticed any soapiness when cooking it but as with anything, you could be sensitive to it. I don't particularly like the taste of cooked millet though...
  20. Hey guys Sorry this response has to be so quick: I forgot to mention that before the GI did a blood test a couple of months ago, he had me eat gluten for a week before - like my first time in forever! So, I havent been completely gluten-free until now. He and the allergist did blood tests, and the GI did an endoscopy to be sure a few weeks ago...
  21. Whoa! I agree! And my sensitivities are even almost just the same as julirama. So do you all just eat on a rotation diet? I'm still so behind in understanding these complicated symptoms.
  22. Thank you Optimistic - I dont think figuring it out on my own is harsh at all. I'm glad to know so I don't waste more time waiting on the doc. I have not read up much on elimination/rotation diets but have heard of them & wondered about them. I'll def look more into the matter and give it a try. Thanks for your help & encouragement!
  23. Oh my! I feel so overwhelmed! I'm only nineteen and still just a baby in this celiac world. Even though I gave up gluten almost two years ago, I have problems and am thinking by the research I've done that I may be struggling with leaky gut and candida issues on top of other allergies/intolerances known and unknown. I have so many questions! What...
