  1. If my memory serves me right, I believe that Fritos are one of the things that is made on a dedicated gluten free line. Could it be something besides gluten? Like another food or additive you are having a problem with? I know alot of the Centrum Vitamins are gluten free but did you check on them to make sure?
  2. Has your husband been tested for celiac? Celiac is commonly misdiagnosed for things such as Crohns. Now I am not saying he does not have Crohns because he very well could just have that. However, considering that your daughter has celiac and he has a history of digestive problems it might make sense to have him at least screened for it. Some people do actually...
  3. IgA and IgG are more towards detecting a problem with gluten in the body. Total Serum IgA will rule out IgA deficiency...if you are IgA deficient then the IgA testing would not be accurate so this rules that out. tTG and EMA are more towards damage and are the more specific tests for celiac. All of those tests should be done. I would not rule out...
  4. The Amy's Mac and Cheese that is safe says it right on the box...same with all that brands products that are gluten free. Amy's does have a non gluten free version as well so just look for the gluten free on the box.
  5. Welcome to the board You will love it here...the people on here are so knowledgeable and supportive. Feel free to contact me anytime...you don't live to far away from me...there are quite a few celiacs I know that also live around here There should be like a gluten free state where all the celiacs live in the U.S ..that would be cool.
  6. I was diagnosed at 16(am 18 now) and it took me about 8 months to get back to normal. I did see improvement after a few months on the diet though. Everyone varies with the time it takes...some people can take within a few weeks and for others it can take up to a few years. It depends on the amount of damage done, age, etc. Right now she is so new to the diet...
  7. Pillsbury has some premade frosting that is gluten free.
  8. This only applies if you are in the US.....Skittles, Snickers, M&M's(all except Krispy), Bubble Yum(all flavors), Airheads, Charms blow pops, Tootsie pops,Jolly Rancher lollipops and hard candy, Starbursts, 3 Muskateers, Smarties
  9. Only some of McDonalds foods are gluten free...most are actually not. Same with Wendy's but you can check out their site to find more info about that with the link Laura provided. Anywhere you go where they serve gluten containing foods is a risk for cross contamination though.
  10. MSG is fine from a gluten perspective..however, it is bad for everyone from a health perspective.
  11. I am very sensitive to the smallest amount and I feel it right away. My reactions usually last 2 weeks but I am usually about 3 weeks to a month before really getting back to 100% again. The 7th day is usually when I feel the worst..I'm not sure why. My symptoms are: nausea, anxiety, fatigue, weight loss, irritability, constipation, depression, brain...
  12. I would not expect a change so soon. I was 16 when I went on the diet (I am 18 now)and it took me 8 months to get back to normal. I saw major improvements after just the 3rd month or so but I had many up and down days until about month 8. Some people may feel better very soon after eliminating gluten while others may take a very long time...it varies. At...
  13. I have always seemed to run on the low side with my temperature too.
  14. Welcome Well there is alot of mainstream things we can have and alot of good brands of gluten free specialty foods(there are alot of bad ones but you'll find the good ones with help from this site) Also, there are some lists that will be helpful..if you would like them you are welcome to email me(email is at the bottom of my signature) and I can send...
  15. Usually when they do an endoscopy they will do a biopsy and take samples to see if there is damage. However, endoscopies and biopsies can rule celiac in but not out. You see if there is sporadic damage they can easily miss it and if you are in early stages and there is no damage yet then it can also show negative. An endoscopy usually only looks at the...
  16. Wow that was one close call...you probably got some in you because when its in your mouth it gets in your saliva so you probably swallowed traces but good thing is you did not get a reaction Just another example on how important it is to read the labels. It happens to the best of us though. That happened to me a while ago too except I swallowed it and ended...
  17. I drop maybe 3-4 pounds over the span of the whole reaction. Does not usually all come off overnight or anything though. After the reaction is over all the weight I lost comes back and sometimes even a few extra pounds(which is alright with me)
  18. That is a brand that should not hide anything. It should be safe even if there are otherwise questionable ingredients unless it says wheat, rye, barley, oats clearly on the label.
  19. Aww that was so sweet of that little girl. Simple things like that - that people do to show they care really are special.
  20. I sometimes will say that it is an autoimmune disorder and my body will damage itself if I have any gluten. It is NOT an allergy..that produces a different reaction.
  21. Most doctors are not up to speed about celiac and your doctor is missing alot when it comes to celiac if he is saying to just start eating and then give him a call. Your test will most likely not come back positive if you have been gluten free for that long and just getting on gluten for a short period of time. Yes, you have to eat alot of gluten for an extended...
  22. Yes, you should eat equal to 2-3 pieces of bread for 3 months prior to testing. Biopsies can rule celiac in but not out. If you had sporadic damage they can easily miss it or if you were in beginnning stages with no damage it would also show negative. Some blood tests are very accurate. It also takes time for symptoms to go away after being gluten free...
  23. Cocoa and Fruity Pebbles are mainstream brands that you can find at Walmart and are gluten free. Betty Crocker fruit roll ups are gluten free and found there as well. Alot of candy is gluten free as well. If you would like I can give you a list of brands that won't hide anything and another big list that might help as well. Just email me so I can email...
  24. Kraft dressings won't hide anything...so if their label does not have wheat, rye, barley, oats then they will be safe. Do you have a list of the brands that won't hide anything? Newman's Own has some gluten free dressings and so does Drews.
  25. Your symptoms are ones that are associated with celiac. There are over 200 symptoms and they are very broad so it can be hard to tell by symptoms alone. To make things even harder, some people don't get any symptoms and symptoms can vary greatly among individuals. If you suspect a problem than you should get tested. Many doctors are clueless about celiac...
