  1. No a wheat allergy is different from celiac. Celiac has a separate panel that is run specifically for that. It would be a good idea to get him tested considering he has a known problem with one of the offending grains. I have a wheat allergy in addition to celiac...it is possible to have both..some people on here do. Good luck and you came to a great place...
  2. If a company emailed me and told me they ran a search on it to find out if it was gluten I would not buy anything from that company ever again..that's just insane. At least they put forth the effort to try to answer your question..I would be very leery of purchasing anything from them though. A simple I don't know from them would have been better. There...
  3. Lists are great to have and really make life alot easier but you can only use them as a guideline because policies and products change so you need to followup on the info as time goes on. Some of the lists I will send you have a section for alcoholic beverages and you can use that for a guideline.
  4. If you want to get the gene testing you can but in my opinion that is not needed. Your blood work and biopsies came back positive which means you have celiac. Many people in the general population have the genes but only some develop celiac so it really would not tell you much in those terms.
  5. Hey I am around your age..I am 18 and also in college. I live in MD. Feel free to email me anytime and welcome to the board
  6. The Ortho Evra patches are gluten free.
  7. No, some people do not get symptoms with celiac ever but damage will still be occurring. Eevryone is different when it comes to that. It's definitely not something to mess around with.
  8. Were blood tests positive? A biopsy can rule celiac in but not out so if you had positive blood results I would not rule celiac out just yet.
  9. Ok ...I could have sworn I just responded to this and now my reply is not there so I will add it again: I would not expect a change so soon. Most people do not see improvement that fast and if you do you are one of the few and lucky. Took me 8 months to get back to normal. Some people get better sooner and some longer...depends on many factors. Usually...
  10. Maltodextrin is fine in the U.S. They have to put if it is not safe on the label...that is for all brands. The diet gets so much easier..I was overwhelmed at first with everything but I found it is not as limited as you may think at first and there are great substitutes for things we can't have. If you need some lists that will make life a bit easier you...
  11. Your best bet would be to pack something along. I don't know of many things at fairs that would be safe.
  12. They are gluten free...I checked recently and drink it alot.
  13. That is so sweet I would love to if I am ever in that area..I live in Maryland as well so I know that will not be possible anytime soon.
  14. Some people do not get symptoms at all. I can tell you now, if you are celiac and still eating gluten you are still causing damage and you are not healing and will not be until you are completely gluten free. Cutting back on it may have helped some of your symptoms but it will catch up with you. Some people do not get symptoms ever and some only get it with...
  15. I do not consider it safe and would not even attempt to try..that is very very risky.
  16. Yes it is necessary. It's not a matter of it absorbing into your skin(unless there is an open cut)...it is a problem of getting traces into your mouth which can happen even if you are very careful. The things like lipsticks and toothpastes which are right on your lips and in your mouth is an obvious given. Soaps...if you wash your hands with gluten containing...
  17. This violates board rules and will be deleted
  18. It varies from person to person. Some people see improvement quick and for others it takes alot longer. It depends on damage and so forth.
  19. You should get testing on yourself for those kinds of allergens and get your house tested for mold, etc. I think that it is a possibility that something else can be contributing to your problems....especially since you feel better when you are away..there must be something that is irritating you. A wheat allergy is also possible...I have a severe wheat...
  20. The IgG is the least accurate test of them all. The tTG is the most accurate test. The full panel should be done which includes: IgG, IgA, total serum IgA, EMA, tTG
  21. Some people are just soo dumb. That would make me mad if they did not listen to my instructions either.
  22. Refractory celiac disease is very rare and that is when you are non responsive to the diet. I don't think 6 months is enough time to really conclude that though...some people with extensive damage can take a few years to heal. Have you been 100% gluten free with no cheating at all? Have you changed products like makeups, shampoos, soaps, lotions and stuff...
  23. I was diagnosed at 16...I am now 18
  24. I had the complete panel run on me(tTG,EMA,IgG,IgA, and total serum IgA) through Prometheus Labs which is a very good lab for celiac testing. Some of my levels were a weak positive and other levels were high positive. In addition to that,I got a gene test done by Prometheus as well that showed I have the DQ2 gene which is one of the main celiac genes. The...
  25. Yes,the Starbursts are gluten free
