ARCHIVED How About Oats?
KaitiUSA replied to CMCM's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you do get oats that would be the brand to get (McCanns) However, keep in mind that some celiacs actually do react to the actual protein in oats...even pure oats. I personally will not eat them. -
ARCHIVED How About Oats?
KaitiUSA replied to CMCM's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Some people actually react to the protein in oats called avenin and others do not. However, in the US pretty much all of the oats are highly contaminated with wheat so it would make them not safe for us. -
ARCHIVED Please Help Asap !
KaitiUSA replied to Judyin Philly's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
From talking to them previously, they told me that they are a 100% dedicated gluten free facility. They do not even allow people who work there to bring gluten containing foods into work for their lunch(that's what I was told) They seem to be very strict about it. I have no problems whatsoever with their products so I would look into other things that you... -
ARCHIVED When Do You React/how Soon?
KaitiUSA replied to CMCM's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I usually feel it instantly and the reactions usually last a good 2 weeks. Everyone is different though. -
ARCHIVED Am I gluten-free?
KaitiUSA replied to brice1401's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
None of those tests are used to detect celiac. Celiac has a separate panel of tests that are done to detect it. Now, the Complete Blood Counts can possibly show problems in certain areas that may or may not be caused by celiac. If you were diagnosed with a biopsy the way to find out if damage is healed is for another biopsy since he did not do blood work... -
ARCHIVED Are You Positive Or Negative About Having Cd?
KaitiUSA replied to Billygoat's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't see anyone on here as whiners. Everyone needs someone who understands to be able to talk to about good and bad experiences. We learn alot from each other on here. For the most part I consider myself a very optimistic person and think of the glass half full. I was very sick and didn't know what was wrong with me so finding out I had something that... -
ARCHIVED Could This Be Gluten?
KaitiUSA replied to aknapp1978's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your IgE came back high and that is for an actual allergy. IgA and IgG are completely different reactions. From what you are saying though it sounds like they did not run a full panel for celiac on you which would include the more accurate tests. The IgA and IgG are not the more specific ones. I have a wheat allergy in addition to celiac so it is possible... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Know
KaitiUSA replied to floridanative's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The tTG is a very accurate test for celiac but there are other things such as Crohns and IBD that have shown to also have elevated tTG levels. However, some doctors are using this test in place of biopsies for diagnosis of celiac(some do require a biopsy for diagnosis though) A test I see they didn't have run on you is the EMA which is another pretty accurate... -
ARCHIVED Am I gluten-free?
KaitiUSA replied to brice1401's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
What tests did you have done that came back high before you were diagnosed? Those same tests in the celiac panel should be done to see if the levels are down. WBC, RBC, etc will not indicate anything in regards to that though. You need a celiac panel done. You can do an Enterolab...some doctors consider it valid while others do not accept it. I would... -
ARCHIVED Does Everybody Have A Reaction When Eating Gluten?
KaitiUSA replied to lnr's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I get bad reactions that last a good 2 weeks and I feel it immediately. Some people never get symptoms with it so it varies from person to person. -
ARCHIVED My First Celaic Panel Lab Results
KaitiUSA replied to Random Guy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm saying that you can't just rely on the biopsy...there are very accurate blood tests that also play a key role in diagnosis and you just had those done..some doctors use certain blood tests in place of biopsies while others require them to be done. Basically, now if you have a biopsy that they say comes back negative you still most likely have celiac... -
ARCHIVED My First Celaic Panel Lab Results
KaitiUSA replied to Random Guy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, from those results it's like almost definite you have it. The EMA and tTG are the best tests for celiac ..very accurate and sensitive so...you have it. The tTG IgG was not performed but that does not matter because that is not as sensitive of a test as the tTG IgA If you go to the home page of this site and scroll to the bottom you have a link to... -
ARCHIVED Can You Become Severely Allergic To Bread?
KaitiUSA replied to Mo92109's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That sounds like an actual allergic reaction. Itchy, hot, and sneezy is usually what can accompany allergic reactions. I have a wheat allergy in addition to celiac and what you are describing sort of sounds like what happens to me. You should be getting allergy testing asap because as mentioned before severe cases can lead to anaphalactic shock which... -

ARCHIVED Is A Tiny Amount As Evil As A Pizza?
KaitiUSA replied to Random Guy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes-it is an all or nothing diet....maybe not what you wanted to hear but it's the truth. It's essential you are 100% gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Is A Tiny Amount As Evil As A Pizza?
KaitiUSA replied to Random Guy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Any amount of gluten is harmful. Even those small amounts cause damage. Small amounts even as frequent as once a month has the affect of not following the diet at all because you never give your intestines a chance to heal. Products need to be checked, cross contamination is a definite threat, and even kissing if the person just ate gluten can hurt you... -

ARCHIVED Who Do I Go To To Get Diagnosed?
KaitiUSA replied to Random Guy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Which tests were run...was the whole panel with 5 tests run(tTG,EMA,IgA,IgG, Total Serum IgA)? Do you know which ones came back positive? P.S:Oops guess I posted a few minutes too late...Vydor looks like we think alike lol...you beat me to it -
ARCHIVED Lipsticks
KaitiUSA replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, it is necessary for lipstick to be gluten free...it's right on your mouth. You will get glutened with that. With hair products and other makeups the chance for cross contamination to get into your mouth is so high. With perfumes and hairsprays it is airborne so traces get into your system. Nail polish can chip off when preparing food and if you... -
ARCHIVED Who Do I Go To To Get Diagnosed?
KaitiUSA replied to Random Guy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, I was diagnosed by blood tests alone and was able to get an official diagnosis that way without getting a biopsy.I had the full panel and a gene test done and the results came back positive and I have one of the main celiac genes (DQ2) so the GI doc. didn't even want to do a biopsy.Biopsies have been considered the "gold standard" however that can only... -

ARCHIVED How Accurate Is Blood Testing
KaitiUSA replied to lopo7883's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was diagnosed by bloodwork alone. My doctor used a full panel and a gene test and didn't think it was necessary for anything else. The full panel has some very accurate tests in there for celiac. Biopsies can only rule celiac in but not out. If you have beginning stages or have sporadic damage they can miss it. Some people may find it harder to stick... -
ARCHIVED Kraft "policy" To Not Tell gluten-free Or Not
KaitiUSA replied to discountshopper's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Kraft is one of quite a few mainstream companies that are very friendly to us celiacs. We love Kraft. They will clearly list gluten and if their Miracle Whip does not say wheat, rye, barley, oats right on it then it is safe. You probably just got a bad rep but this policy they have been well known for If Kraft had wheat in their modified food starch... -
ARCHIVED My Doctor Said He Would Do Biopsies
KaitiUSA replied to mightymorg's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Nope, a colonoscopy doesn't cut it for celiac. For biopsies with celiac they use the endoscopy. However, they can only rule celiac in, they can't rule celiac out...if it is in beginning stages or has sporadic damage they can easily miss it.
