ARCHIVED Is This Progress?
KaitiUSA replied to Nikki~Nathan&Danielle's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, it is very encouraging to see even the slightest amount of positive change. It took me many months to feel better. Looks like he is definitely on the right track -
I used to love Olive Garden but they really are not celiac friendly so I don't go there now.

ARCHIVED It's Official... We Can Eat Oats!
KaitiUSA replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would also hesitate to encourage oats because a portion of celiacs do get intestinal damage from pure oats and all the oats in the US have had problems with contamination. -
ARCHIVED What Happens When U Get Contaminated?
KaitiUSA replied to Moongirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Every slip up causes damage, even if you do not get symptoms. Some people just do not get symptoms but others can feel it. Some people get more sensitive to gluten(I certainly did) but others do not and some never get symptoms, some get symptoms with large amounts only, some get sick from the smallest amount so it all varies from person to person. They... -

This brand has been known to clearly identify gluten and I consider them a celiac friendly brand. -

ARCHIVED Oh My Tummy!
KaitiUSA replied to VydorScope's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry to hear you have been feeling bad...since you know you have a problem with it and see even some improvement on the diet what is keeping you from following it? You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by it. Even if it's just an intolerance and not celiac you definitely seem to have an issue...I hope you get feeling better here soon -
Ok well on Thanksgiving night I went to my aunts house. Some of my cousins and I were playing a game and while we were my younger cousin who is like 6 was behind me. Unknown to me at the time she was spraying some hairspray conditioner stuff in her hair right behind me. She brought it over to where I could see her and started to spray it again so I told her...

ARCHIVED New To Site- Looking For Advice- Long Post!
KaitiUSA replied to chaddwell's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board Your sympoms sound like ones that can be associated with celiac. Also, the EMA is a pretty specific test so that being high my red flag just went up. Also, biopsies can only rule celiac in but not out...if you have beginning stages with little or no damage or sporadic damage they can easily miss it. Was the full panel run on... -
ARCHIVED Glutened In A Small Dose?
KaitiUSA replied to nobeer4me's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
First, there are no degrees of celiac. Some people may react to it and some may not but in both cases the damage is being done even with that small amount of gluten. I get very bad reactions even to the smallest amount but I know people that don't have any symptoms. You have celiac or you don't and if you have it you have to be 100% gluten free. The... -
I like the more natural kinds of brands with not so many chemicals added but I do use alot of the Dove brand and have not had a problem with it at all.

ARCHIVED What Is The "real Deal" With Oats?
KaitiUSA replied to frustratedneicey's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oats are not safe in the US because they are contaminated with wheat. Quaker might as well = wheat. A small portion of celiacs even react to the protein in even pure oats called avenin. If you do try oats make sure they are pure. Pure= grown by themselves, transported by themselves, in a facility by themselves....no chance for contamination. Keep in... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Panel Results
KaitiUSA replied to lovetoeat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I ditto Tiffany. The total serum IgA needs to be done because that rules out IgA deficiency and if you have IgA deficiency then those tests were not accurate. -
ARCHIVED New Here And Need Help With Diagnosis
KaitiUSA replied to Amanda70's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Do you know which tests were run for celiac? Celiac has a separate panel that needs to be done but all of them really need to be done to see the full picture...and some are more accurate than others. There can be false negatives especially if it has just been triggered. If you plan on getting more testing for celiac you need to wait to go gluten free... -
ARCHIVED A Doc Just Told S.o. It Doesn't Matter If He's Eating Wheat
KaitiUSA replied to Merika's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No, you have to be on gluten in order to get testing...they use these tests to monitor compliance with the diet. The doctor sounds like he made something up thinking he could get away with it. -
ARCHIVED My Husband Is The Problem Help
KaitiUSA replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am sorry to hear that. I am not sure what his mind set is but he may be feeling guilty that she has it and wants to be a hero of some sort. The reason I said that is because when I was first diagnosed my dad would let me have stuff I was not supposed to have either. If I was good following the diet I figured that eating something once in a while would not... -
ARCHIVED Oats, Are They Ok To Eat?
KaitiUSA replied to nobeer4me's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oats in the US are contaminated with wheat so are not ok. Pure oats-meaning ones that are grow separately, transported separately, and in a facility of their own are tolerated by some celiacs but a small portion do react to the protein called avenin. I stay away from oats and would not recommend them at all. -
ARCHIVED Round 2 In gluten-free Product Realizations
KaitiUSA replied to carriecraig's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yep, I did not change my products at first because I really had no clue. I was improving but not really like I should have been. I then found out about my products and all that stuff and it all started to come together. I got all gluten free products from perfumes to hairsprays to makeup to cleaners and more...I can't tell you how much improvement I have... -
ARCHIVED Can You Be Gluten Intolerant And Not Cd
KaitiUSA replied to GUSSLER9's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If they did a biopsy and said that it sure sounds like celiac. I am curious to why they never said celiac though. Were they specifically looking for celiac when they did the biopsy. Obviously, by what you are saying it sounds like the biopsy came back showing damage which then means she should be on the diet 100%. A positive biopsy has been the "gold standard... -
ARCHIVED Are Digestive Enzymes Ok To Take?

ARCHIVED This Is So Infuriating!
KaitiUSA replied to CMCM's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Alot of specialty brands have gluten free foods processed in the same facilities as wheat but have machines cleaned in between. Not many brands you will find are dedicated to 100% gluten free facilities. I am sensitive and I eat products that are gluten free but processed in facilities that also process wheat and have not had a problem with many, if any... -
ARCHIVED Are Digestive Enzymes Ok To Take?
KaitiUSA replied to agearl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

I still take supplements to try to keep my immune system high and always try to stay one step ahead of the game I use alot of the Enzymatic Therapy brand-I found this to be a great brand-I also use their probiotics, sublingual B12's and more. If you are accidentally glutened I would think they would...
