((SGWhiskers)) I soooo hope you called that restaurant employee's manager and reported her. They offer a gluten-free menu and how cruel of her to make any customer feel bad for needing to eat this way. If that is her attitude she does not need to be working there. How rude, uncaring and unprofessional. Also, I have had a co-worker tell me that because...

I just feel like any guy that would not date me because I have to eat gluten-free should get lost. Most of the men I have dated have been sooooo supportive and actually seemed to enjoy the challenge of finding restaurants and things we could eat. One guy would actually make me "love offerings" of gluten-free strawberry shortcake, gluten-free cheesecake, and...

I used Beth's AP gluten-free Flour (gluten-free Pantry) for the carob brownies and they came out great! I bought another box and made the biscuit recipe on the back to go with my pot roast last night. I added shredded cheese and garlic salt and after they were cooked, brushed melted butter and garlic salt on top. Very nice!! Everything was just a wee more...

Hi all! Last night I attempted a green bean casserole dish. I used 1 can of Progresso Creamy Mushroom soup and it thickened right up when I added 2 tbsp cornstarch to 1/4 cup cold water, which I then slowly stirred into the boiling soup. It was super-thick when I added it to my casserole. But after it was cooked, it was water-thin. It did not thicken...

ARCHIVED Victoria's Secret Makeup Is Gluten Free
Jeanniebug replied to Jeanniebug's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wow conflicting information...it drives me nuts! I had emailed them several times and for whatever reason could never get a reply. Their statement is interesting...how would my physician know if their 2nd or 3rd generation by-product ingredients contained gluten? Precisely the reason for asking... ugh!! -

True if you're avoiding parabens they are not paraben-free that I know of. Gluten-free yes. -
ARCHIVED Chemical Peels Safe?
Jeanniebug replied to kristinnella's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm a licensed Esthetician and I still call the manufacturer of anything I put on my skin. I'm prone to topical reactions as well as internal. If I'm applying product I'm not sure about to a client I use vinyl gloves. I'm extremely sensitive Celiac and do not feel comfortable about having gluten absorbed into my skin or possible cross-contamination. ... -
ARCHIVED Victoria's Secret Makeup Is Gluten Free
Jeanniebug posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just wanted to let everyone know, I called Victoria's Secret at 800-411-5116 (just keep hitting "zero" until you get a consultant) to inquire about gluten in their makeup. The rep put me on hold and called their makeup developers. They said their entire makeup line is gluten-free. I asked if there were possible cross-contamination issues. She called... -
ARCHIVED Emergen-c All Flavors gluten-free
Jeanniebug replied to wschmucks's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This is correct. I had not seen this post when I just happened to call them today. I called because last year their raspberry flavor said "contains: Wheat" on the ingredient lable. I was told they thought at that time one of the ingredients was wheat-derived and therefore were required to post it on the ingredient information. They found out they were... -

I called Udi's in Denver, they're not in the Southeast yet. I called my local Whole Foods and they don't carry it yet. Udi's said they are working on a site as we speak so we can order online, but right now their gluten-free line is not set up for online ordering. You can order over the phone by calling 303-657-6366. They do have a very hefty shipping fee... -
ARCHIVED Looking For A Face Lotion That Is Gluten Free.
Jeanniebug replied to Emily888's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Check out gfsoap.com they have several products that are really good. Also all Body Drench lotions are gluten free, many are made for face and body. If you have a Cosmetics Market nearby they have a couple of product lines that say "gluten free" right on the product boxes, I apologize but I can't remember the name of the product lines right now. I personally... -
ARCHIVED Finally Cracked The Cosmetic Ingredients Code :)
Jeanniebug posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have been having one heck of a time coming up with a good list of unsafe makeup and product ingredients. I've also been having a hard time finding the ingredients listings for Rimmel makeup. I received an email from Rimmel and they advised if wheat, oats, rye or barley are in their ingredients it will clearly say on the packaging and not be hidden. However... -
ARCHIVED "gluten Free" Items That "got You"
Jeanniebug replied to NorthernElf's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Here are mine: Bonefish Grill - Caesar Salad - chef in error tossed my salad in same bowl as other salads containing croutons. He didn't catch the error till after I'd eaten it. The manager came out and told me what happened before we left. We hoped for the best but I woke up super sick...on a roadtrip, while out of town, for a funeral. It was miserable... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cosmetics And Toiletries
Jeanniebug replied to Lisa79's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks Wurlitzer1, your email listing the products was very very helpful. It was an unfortunate incident because I've definitely tried to be very very careful about my lip products. I thought it was ok, I went into the store and the sales person said it was gluten-free lipstick, one way after another I was mis-informed and wound up getting sick. What turned... -
ARCHIVED I'm Potato Starch Challenged
Jeanniebug replied to Jeanniebug's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I wasn't using it as a sub, the recipe just called for 2 tsp of potato starch. This confirms what I suspected...I need to whisk whisk whisk super-fast next time!! Thank you all for your replies. -
ARCHIVED I'm Potato Starch Challenged

There has to be a trick to getting it to mix, right? I'm going to research online, if I figure it out I'll post it here. -
ARCHIVED I'm Potato Starch Challenged
Jeanniebug posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
So I was following a recipe that called for potato starch for the first time. I was to mix 1 tbsp potato starch with some chicken broth. It mixed up great all nice and normal looking. Then I had to add it to a broth mixture I had simmering on the stove. When I did this, the starch immediately gummed up into these large gloppy groups of...I don't-know... -
ARCHIVED Are Canned Vegetables Ok? Progresso Soups?
Jeanniebug posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was wondering if most canned vegetables are ok, such as corn, green beans, etc., as long as there aren't any suspicious ingredients on the label? Do I need to worry about CC issues if it just lists the vegetable, water, salt and/or sugar for instance? I need to buy green beans tonight. Also...the Progresso Creamy Mushroom soup...I'd like to try cooking... -
ARCHIVED Free Coupon For gluten-free Betty Crocker Mix!
Jeanniebug replied to digmom1014's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I just called and the recording still says they're out of the coupons. However the rep I spoke to was very nice. She took my address and email addy for updates on their gluten-free lines. I'm allergic to chocolate so she advised the gluten-free cake mix I could try. She also said they are coming out with a line of gluten-free frostings....hopefully by this... -
ARCHIVED How Essential Is Diagnosis?
Jeanniebug replied to KathiSharpe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For me and my doctor it all came down to red tape with the insurance company. They wanted my doctor to follow a certain protocol for diagnosis or they would not cover anything related to Celiac's i.e. future complications, medications etc. I called the insurance company to confirm this, and then I went ahead and got the bloodwork (positive for the gene),... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cosmetics And Toiletries
Jeanniebug replied to Lisa79's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I bought some Bare Minerals 100% natural lipgloss AND lipstick this weekend thinking it was fine. I got really sick as of yesterday and could not figure out why. The above response from Bare Essentuals/Minerals says these DO contain gluten. I called the customer service number to confirm this and read them the email. They put me on hold to consult with a... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Unemployed Or Divorced Because Of Celiac?
Jeanniebug replied to mrmachinist's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I was married to a soldier for 6 1/2 years. I was the textbook "good" Army wife, supported my soldier, stood by him, everything was all about his career. I started having major reproductive problems about 2 years after we got married. After my hysterectomy that's when things went downhill fast with my health. Anyway he was stationed in Korea for 8 months...
