ARCHIVED So Frustrated Not Better Yet
BlessedMommy replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
About 7 months ago, after suffering through 2 bouts of bronchitis back to back, catching nearly every bug that went around, and having debilitating environmental allergies (year around) that were only getting worse year after year, and reading lots of material on the subject, I hesitatingly decided to go sugar free. (including honey, maple syrup, etc.) Frankly... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cat Food
BlessedMommy replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It was very easy to find gluten free cat food! They had a lot of it at the pet store. So...it looks like a stray tomcat is adopting us and I went to the Petco store today and picked up a bag of Nature's Recipe dry cat food and some Wellness brand cat treats. I also got some canned cat food that is 9 Lives brand and it has just stuff like meat, meat... -
ARCHIVED New Research On Ncgs
BlessedMommy replied to Pegleg84's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Okay, another thought that occurred to me about this study.... I know that a lot of folks on this forum take days to recover from one glutening. So, how does a few days on each day and then rapidly switching between a high gluten and a gluten free diet prove anything? In other words, participants could be still recovering from the prior glutenings, days... -
ARCHIVED When Do I Start gluten-free?
BlessedMommy replied to afitgirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, it's okay to wait. -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Results
BlessedMommy replied to Lisalee1211's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Congratulations on getting the positive bloodwork! Though it seems shocking now, it's a blessing to know what's really going on. You know, with your back story, it makes me wonder how many folks who think they are gluten sensitive are actually celiacs. It's up to you, but if you have the insurance coverage and the opportunity to do the biopsy, it's a... -
ARCHIVED Sit Down Dinner Wedding Reception Help!
BlessedMommy replied to GFDonna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So, mamaw, you find that the caterer typically has a good grasp of cooking without any cross contamination? -
ARCHIVED So Frustrated Not Better Yet
BlessedMommy replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm so sorry. You have put so much effort into getting well and I know that it's frustrating when things don't work as planned. And it's so hard when going gluten free doesn't take care of your health issues. I know for me, I had additional issues besides gluten, and it's been a somewhat challenging road to wellness. You have certainly done your part... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
BlessedMommy replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I made the tater tot taco bake tonight, it was so good! Between 2 adults and 3 kids, we ate up the whole pan! For Memorial Day picnic, I'm making a potato salad and having veggie burgers with Udi's buns. What's on the menu for everybody else? -
ARCHIVED When Do I Start gluten-free?
BlessedMommy replied to afitgirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would wait until after biopsy to go gluten free. They may also refer you to a nutritionist. -
ARCHIVED Contamination Anxiety- Help!
BlessedMommy replied to afitgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Take a deep breath! You are just starting out. Everything is going to be okay. Take it one day at a time. You will learn how to manage things, it just takes time and practice. And this forum is a great support for that! -
ARCHIVED Teaching A Cooking Class
BlessedMommy replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Plus, I won't be the only one not eating or not eating much, because my MIL went to 2 meals a day at her doctor's advice, so she doesn't eat supper but will be coming to the class. -
ARCHIVED Teaching A Cooking Class
BlessedMommy replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Since there's so little time before I get up to teach anyway, I might just have fruit beforehand. -
ARCHIVED Sit Down Dinner Wedding Reception Help!
BlessedMommy replied to GFDonna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would not eat the food without researching beforehand. Personally, at the last reception that I went to, I carried snacks in my purse and ate only my own food. But the reception was privately handled, so I didn't feel confident that much of anything would be safe. -
I lead out in coordinating certain events for our church. Periodically, we have nutrition/cooking seminars that we make available to the public. In the past, I did a lot more of the cooking, but as time has gone on, I've outsourced a lot of that to church members. While that is great for my stress level, it means that very little there is gluten free...

ARCHIVED Is This A Good Idea?
BlessedMommy replied to sidelined's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A gluten challenge can work for many people. Be sure to listen to your body, though and don't overdo the gluten. I made a mistake of not being careful during my gluten challenge and had to cease it early, so as not to go on and have a full blown stroke. (I had a TIA after experiencing severe headaches) So I'm not diagnosed and I will never do a gluten... -
ARCHIVED Making Homemade Food For Cats
BlessedMommy replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
We don't have a microwave. I did pick up a 12 pack of canned cat food though. The 9 lives brand appears to be gluten free. We are strongly leaning towards letting the cat stay, he really seems to be adapting to us well. -

Would your co-parent be swayed by University of Chicago research? They are the experts afterall. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Frustrated With Co-Parent
BlessedMommy replied to Christina.V's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That is not true. It's a fact that celiac can present in many ways other than GI symptoms. Some celiacs have no symptoms and end up slowly and silently dying. -
ARCHIVED "how Sensitive Are You?"
BlessedMommy replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think that people just do not understand how ridiculous it is to mess around with something that could destroy your ability to function independently and speak correctly. Of course, in this society, almost everybody seems to subscribe to the "a little won't hurt" mentality. -
ARCHIVED "how Sensitive Are You?"
BlessedMommy replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I love it! That really gets the point across. -
ARCHIVED A Little Bit Confused...
BlessedMommy replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That site looks great! I might eventually order the nutrient test. Looks like they use labs all over the U.S. Thanks for sharing the link! -
ARCHIVED "how Sensitive Are You?"
BlessedMommy replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My cousin once asked me that question, when referring to a restaurant that stated as a disclaimer that cross contamination may occur. I sort of bumbled through an answer which boiled down to, "I use my common sense, ask questions, ask for accomodations, and avoid the chips made in the shared frier." On another occasion, I refused to eat my own dish... -
ARCHIVED "how Sensitive Are You?"
BlessedMommy replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So pretty much treat it like a dumb question? -
ARCHIVED "how Sensitive Are You?"
BlessedMommy replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I read your testimony, and yes, I agree that any person who would ask you a question like that, would be pretty silly. If it would be like asking someone if they would eat rat poison on purpose. -
ARCHIVED Glutino Crackers
BlessedMommy replied to orlandoiam's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So does their final product test down to 5 PPM or less or 10 PPM or less?
