ARCHIVED Think I Am Ready For The "looney Bin"!gf-soph replied to psawyer's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Hello I am not a psychologist but I work in the area, and what you are describing are obsessive thoughts. These sorts of thoughts (if they continue over time, take up lots of your time, and are distressing to you) are characteristic of obsessive compulsive disorder. Try not to panic about the situation, but do be aware of it. If these intrusive, distressing...

I thought the grief aspect of going gluten free was trite at first, but like a lot of people I ended up going through it any way! I am a lifelong vegetarian so I am used to having fewer choices when eating out, but at least it was a genuine choice that I was happy to make. I was so sick when going gluten free that I was happy to do it initially, I hadn't...

ARCHIVED White Blood Cell Countgf-soph replied to Black Sheep's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease when they're just out of range it could be any number of minor things - e.g. a recent cold, small infection, slight inflammation. Nothing to worry about in itself, i've had ones that are a bit elevated and they have gone down by the next blood test. Your doctor will be able to give you a better idea of they want to follow up on it later or not.

ARCHIVED Pain Upper Left/ct Scan/small Bowel Studygf-soph replied to deesmith's topic in Related Issues & Disorders The small bowel test gives them an idea of how the material can move through your small bowel, the CT gives them a picture of how it is at the moment of the scan only. They can't use an endoscpy or colonoscopy to get to most of the small bowel so they have to visualise it by getting you to swallow the contrast, and seeing how it moves down. They may suspect...

ARCHIVED Hi, I'm New From Australiagf-soph replied to snapdragon's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Hi there I think the other posts have said pretty much everything I would have, except to ask where in Aus you live? I live in Sydney and have a very supportive and informed GP, if you find yours isn't so great then I can give you the details. If you're not in Sydney I'm pretty sure if you contact your state celaic society they may be able to point you...

ARCHIVED Ferritin Levels Vs. Rbc Countgf-soph replied to Laura9's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease I would recommend getting full iron studies (iron, ferratin, saturation and TIBC), B12 and folate tested, as they can all cause anaemia if they are too low. Drs can use the full blood count because the average size of the blood cells can indicate different types of deficiency. From memory B12 deficiency can make the red cells larger. The problem is that...

ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerance & Neurological Problemsgf-soph replied to Link's topic in Related Issues & Disorders I wanted to second the B12 suggestion - has your son had his levels checked? I was quite low at one point and I had an uncontrolable tremor in my feet (amongst other symptoms). It resolved quickly with B12 injections (now maintaining with sublingual tablets), though I also have some clumsiness that hasn't gone away yet which may be due to general exhaustion...

ARCHIVED Is This Celiac Or Sensitivity To Gluten?gf-soph replied to michelley65's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms What it comes down to is that you don't have to have a diagnosis of celiac in order to go gluten free. I can understand wanting the tests to come back positive so you are sure, but you have to listen to your body. Assuming these tests come back negative, why not try the diet, strictly, for at least a few months. NO cheating. If you feel better, keep going...

ARCHIVED I'm Always Worried Something Else Is Going On!gf-soph replied to DonaldandAlanda Evans's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease I can sympathise with how you feel. I got some useful advice when I was at a celiac society exhibition shortly after going gluten free - the expert gastroenterologist there told me it would be at least 6 months until my body was back to normal after giving up all gluten. That allowed me to relax a bit and not be oversensitive to everything. Unfortunately...

ARCHIVED Gluten Challengegf-soph replied to misskatie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I hope you are able to get some answers. A good idea is to keep a food and symptom journal over the next few months, it may help you to identify symptoms directly relted to gluten. It can be very useful to look back over when you are gluten free again, it can be a great motivator to track all the changes. It may also be that your fatigue is related to...

ARCHIVED I Found Bread! (australia)gf-soph replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff I've posted about how much I love choices in the past, but I've found another bread that I like even more! Zehnder bread - stocked in IGA stores mostly. I had the wholemeal, it was amazing! It does have more ingredients than choices, I think it includes soy and yeast so it won't agree with as many people, but it really was delicious. It had that bounciness...

ARCHIVED Appetite Loss And Celiac Diseasegf-soph replied to echopants's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I just wanted to add that you aren't thinking of your nutrition at all. You may be able to continue for a while eating gluten, happy with having little appetite, but eventually it will catch up with you. I had a lot of symptoms for a couple of years, and 18 months after going gluten free I am still having to work really hard to get my nutrient levels...

ARCHIVED Gluten-Free In Australia Or England!?gf-soph replied to sarahd047's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff I live in Sydney, and the major supermarkets stock a good range of gluten free products. According to google, Townsville has a coles, woolworths and IGA, which all stock a good range of products. I think you'll be fine For dining out, I'm not sure about Townsville specifically, but if you google the queensland celiac society I'm sure they can give you...

For me they are definietly related to gluten exposure. I can get them if I get tired and hit my mouth while brushing, but I only ever get unexplaned ones from gluten. I know some people (without gluten problems) that get them more often because of stress, but for you I would strongly suspect gluten. It may be time to check over all foods and medications...

ARCHIVED Elevated Cholesterol And Celiac Diseasegf-soph replied to cblack's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Hi I'm not sure whether high cholesterol has a recognised link to celiac, but I have had above normal cholesterol for a couple of years. I am 25, a lifelong vegetarian, can't tolerate fatty food, and am within the normal weight range (though slightly on the higher end). I've never been able to figure out where it came from, but it did decline slightly...

ARCHIVED Trauma Triggergf-soph replied to DonaldandAlanda Evans's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease It worked that way for me - I started having occasional GI symtpoms after catching a flu when I was overseas in 2005. I would have periodic problems but overall health seemed ok. I know now I was starting to malabsorb, but that took a while to show up. Mid 2007 I caught another full on flu, and my system went haywire after that, could harldy eat, major...

ARCHIVED I Found Bread! (australia)gf-soph replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff I'm a choices devotee, I don't eat any other bread as have been majorly disappointed by the others. I treated myself to the brownies the other day, they were pretty good but more of a muffin I suppose. Still worth having though, much better than their biscuts. I'm with Aussie peg - I love their fruit bread, it's so lovely. I use the wholemeal for...

ARCHIVED Using Tetracyclines To Help Bring Immune System Under Controlgf-soph replied to gf-soph's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Once again thanks for replies. gemini - I know that my GP doesn't want me on them forever, so no worries there. I too don't like taking medications in the long run, so I will discuss with her how long to stay on them. I have been on a totally strict gluten-free diet for about 18 months, so it is not a matter of non-compliance. I know that there is something...

ARCHIVED Gluten And Acne - Is There A Topical Connection?gf-soph replied to gibbler's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms From what I've learnt - there is a lot of flour in the air - you breathe it in. Some of it sits in the lining of your nose and sinuses. Some of this finds it's way down into your stomach via swallowing mucous, therefore it is sabotaging your otherwise gluten free diet. I will not go inside a bakery for this reason. I do think you are getting glutened this...

ARCHIVED Using Tetracyclines To Help Bring Immune System Under Controlgf-soph replied to gf-soph's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease I thought some of you may be interested in an update. I have been on the tetracycline (50mg daily) now for about 2 months, and it is definitely helping. Within about 2 weeks it totally cleared up the painful breakout on my scalp, neck and back. I forgot to take them for about a week and it came back, then went away again after resuming the meds. My...

ARCHIVED Stuck In A Rutgf-soph replied to passionfruit877's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I have been pretty much diagnosed as gluten intolerant, in that my Dr was the one to tell me to go gluten free if I ever wanted to get better! I had gluten antibodies several times higher than the normal range, severe D and malabsorption, as well as a clear early response to the gluten free diet. She often refers to me as celiac in referral letters,...

ARCHIVED Heart Palpatations/Shortness Of Breathgf-soph replied to kampingal's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms It's extremely common for people with celiac/gluten intolerance to have deficiencies that can make you very unwell. As others have pointed out, some type of anaemia is a good place to look first. It can be related to low iron, B12 or folate. It is important to get all 3 checked thorougly as well as a full blood count. The blood count shows the red blood...

ARCHIVED Reactive Hypoglycemia A Result Of Celiac?gf-soph replied to Katie B's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Hi I'm not sure if it's exactly the same thing, and I may be just telling you things you already know but... I have been gluten free over a year. Over the last few months I have felt worse and worse after eating - dizziness, headaches, weakness, confusion, tingling lips etc. At first I thought there was something in my diet I was sensitive to, but after...

I have a question about liver problems. I am 24 and almost never drink, but have just had an ultrasound showing a fatty liver, 2 calcified spots and a 1 cm dark spot which may be nothing (but they want to rescan in 2 months to see if it

ARCHIVED Negative Celiac Dna Resultgf-soph replied to beebs's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms hi beebs i was going to pm the drs details but it didn't work, so details are... The Dr I go to is moving practice, her name is Dr Margaret Hardy, and the practice will be at 3A pittwater rd (near intersection with victoria rd), gladesville. She will start working there after the 14th of Jan. Hope that's not too far away from you, but it's worth a bit...
