  1. Some other ones that are gluten free are: Cookies BBQ sauce, Prego spaghetti sauce, Chex cereal has several flavors that are gluten free, a lot of the edy's ice cream flavors are gluten free, many of the dorito's flavors are gluten free, fresh fruit, veggies, and meats, there are these individual serving rice cups by Minute Rice, I believe, I've started...
  2. The other thing I do, too, is if I see a product that says "natural ingredients" or "natural flavorings" or whatever, I keep a list of those products. I usually do not buy them at the time, but when I get home I will either email the company that makes it or I will give them a call to double check for sure if it is in fact gluten free.
  3. I totally buy that! I know that in addition to having trouble falling asleep, on days when I accidently miss a meal (because there's not enough time or I'm to busy or whatever) or if I miss my snack before bed, or if my meals throughout the day are too small, I almost always wake up around 3 am absolutely starving. I feel so hungry that I feel like I might...
  4. I snack on popcorn a lot at work. I usually just throw a baggie full in my purse before I head off to work in the mornings. That way I have a snack to eat between breakfast and lunch. I also like the rice cakes. I keep a packagae of gluten free trail mix here at work too.
  5. I am a big cereal girl too! I used to LOVE golden grahms and honey comb. Well, I can't have those anymore, but I have definitely really started enjoying the cinnamon chex. It's mainstream and I LOVE it now. Also, the Envirokids peanut butter cereal (I think it has a gorilla on it) tastes really good too. It's kind of hard to stick to some mainstream...
  6. Well, you know how they always say pets are like their owners?? My two dogs definitely are! I actually noticed with them (before I even got diagnosed) that they always had problems with their stomachs when I would feed them foods with grains in them. They just simply don't do well with grains (ironic, I know!). Anyway, I have them on a grain free dog...
  7. I've made mac and cheese very successfully with DeBoles Gluten Free elbow style corn pasta. I personally tend to like the corn pasta better. From the spaghetti and mac and cheese I've made, I think for my tastebuds, the corn pasta has a better taste and consistency. The rice pasta I've made just seems to be a little less substantive and seems to just fall...
  8. Have you tried Deby's Gluten Free out of Denver, CO? I have had a couple of things from there and everything I've had was really good. I haven't tried the cookies yet, but I would imagine they are great as well!! Here is their website if you want to take a look: Open Original Shared Link
  9. Hi Emma! I eat a lot of pasta also, and I have noticed that the rice based gluten free pastas do tend to clump together when I am cooking them. I recently switched to the corn based gluten free pastas and I have not noticed that issue. As previously stated, I do stir pretty much the whole time they are cooking to make sure they don't stick together or...
  10. I know exactly what you mean about being excited to finally have a diagnosis! When I was diagnosed last March I was absolutely ECSTATIC that I it wasn't "all in my head" like a bunch of other doctors had told me the past 9 years! It's nice to know there was an actual issue and there is a way for me to improve my health and my life! As for the gluten...
  11. Ok, I found the website of those noodles. I was wrong, there is actually another ingredient in there, but I'm not sure what that ingredient is either -- its "organic durum semolina"... Here is the website: Open Original Shared Link I'm kind of assuming since they have a separate "Gluten Free" tab on the website page that this pasta probably...
  12. I wish I could learn how to bake bread!!! I'm sure it's MUCH better than the loaves of gluten free bread I buy at the store! Anyway, I have a couple suggestions: 1) Make sure you have two completely different prep areas for your bread making. One should be strictly your gluten free area and should never ever be used for making the other type of bread...
  13. I was grocery shopping yesterday and saw some lasagna noodles that were made out of artichoke flour. That was the ONLY ingredient listed on them. It didn't say gluten free on the box or anything. Does anyone know what in the world that stuff actually is?? Thanks!!
  14. Hey everyone. I was just googling "Celiac Disease" and came across this website from the University of Chicago. I think this page in particular was a great synopsis of a lot of the posts on this ingredient and food labeling forum. I think it did a great job giving a list of what ingredients on those horrid food labels are safe, which ones aren't, and explained...
  15. Here is the link to the Edy's website. This is the one that goes to their slow churned light products (because that is what I usually get) If you click on each type of ice cream, it has a list of all the ingredients at the top, below that is the nutritional info, and then right below the nutritional info it will tell you whether or not it is gluten...
  16. Yes, you can absolutely do it in college! If you found a college you really want to go to and think you'll really enjoy, by all means do not let this stupid gluten thing hold you back! I don't know what kind of housing accomodations your school has, but if you could find someplace to live where you have a kitchen to cook in -- like a small apartment by...
  17. I graduated from college a couple of years ago -- and I tell you this to give you hope! I was diagnosed last March with Celiac and have been on the gluten free diet since. I have always been an artistic, creative person. I love to draw, color, paint, write poetry, short stories, etc... There was a period of time for about 8 years I just could not do those...
  18. Hello! My mom and my little sister are just getting ready to start the gluten free diet. They live in Wilmington, which if I remember is around an hour away. I live in Nebraska, so I'm not much help, but I have given them a lot of information, meal plans, etc... to help them out. It's so hard when you're first starting off and you feel kind of isolated...
  19. Ok, sounds good! Thank you very much for the clarification!! There is just so much information out there that sometimes it is hard to figure out fact from fiction! That's why I love this board!
  20. I have heard and read that MSG is a source of gluten. I am just confused about whether it was one of those where it COULD be a potential source of gluten and so more checking would need to be done on the product (i.e. calling the manufacturer) or if MSG is ALWAYS a source of gluten. Anyone happen to know or can you tell me a little more about it? I'm just...
  21. I totally agree with that recommendation! The peanut butter ones are so good!! It even makes a great snake to throw in a baggie and take on the road with you!
  22. I've almost had an opposite reaction to going gluten free. I've been gluten free now for about 8 months. In the past 8 months I have caught EVERYTHING that anyone around me has gotten. Colds, sinus infections (yes I know those are not contagious), flus, etc... I have had it all! It's almost as if my immune system has take a little vacation from working...
  23. Hello! I actually love to cook -- but I'm all about easy, cheap, and fast when it comes to cooking dinner. One of my favorite meals is bbq pork sandwiches. Get some gluten free hamburger buns -- you keep them frozen and they take like 45 sec to a minute to defrost in the microwave. If you want them a little more crispy, throw them in the oven for a minute...
  24. Let me preface this by saying that I love my future mother in law to death! She has bent over backwards to make sure (to the best of her ability) that they try to make something for me (the Celiac) to eat at every meal we have. We eat a family dinner at my boyfriend's parents house almost every single Sunday, so there have been a lot of "special" dishes...
  25. I get like that too just a few hours after being glutened. It took me a few times to realize that was the connection. Not only do I get the depression and sadness part of it, but I overreact, I become very irrational, and very irritable. I'm very lucky my boyfriend understands and loves me so much because there have been a couple times where I've accidently...
