  1. Yes, from what I have read it is possible for one type of turkey or ham or whatever to contain gluten and another does not. It depends on what they add to it to either preserve it, as a filler, or to make it taste better. Your best bet is to talk to the nutritionist at your grocery store to see if they have a listing of products their store sells that are...
  2. Just to build a bit on what Lisa said, too, at some point you have to not worry about whether you hurt someone else's feelings. When I first got diagnosed I was so worried about what everyone would think and whether I'd hurt my boyfriend's parents' feelings when they cooked dinner for us that I slipped up a few times just to be polite. After a couple times...
  3. That is really funny you mentioned this, because my doctor said that very same thing too! I personally have chosen not to follow that advice. I know how sick I get when I ingest something with gluten and it's just not worth it to me to be sick for 2 weeks for one beer or one cupcake. They may not taste as good, but they do make cupcakes and beer without...
  4. Just as a precaution for you, I was looking on the list of ingredients provided for McDonalds and their fries are NOT gluten free. They use a natural beef flavoring on their fries and that flavoring contains hydrolyzed wheat as a starting ingredient. Burger King's fries, on the other hand, do not have that flavoring on them and are gluten free (as long...
  5. Hey! I eat 6 meals a day since being diagnosed. Now, that doesn't mean I eat 6 BIG meals a day -- I eat three healthy meals and then I have decent sized snacks in between. I have found that I HAVE TO EAT breakfast now. I never ate breakfast before my diagnosis, but I've noticed that now if I skip that I feel really out of it and weak by the time lunch...
  6. ABSOLUTELY!!! My back pain used to be so bad prior to my diagnoses that my doctors were 100% certain I had some rare kidney condition but they just could not figure out what it was. I would get pains so bad in my lower back on both the right and left sides -- but mostly the right side -- that I could not walk, it hurt to sit. I felt sick to my stomach...
  7. I have had to deal with a very similar situation! The guy I dated prior to my current (completely wonderful and understanding and loving) boyfriend was just a complete jerk! He thought it was funny when I would get sick and would purposely try to give me foods he thought would make me sick. I dated him pre-diagnoses, so we didn't exactly know what the...
  8. Yep!! There are several different kinds depending on where you live. The ones I can get here in Nebraska are Redbridge (Which is an anheusur busch beer!) and New Grist (I believe that might be a New Belgium brewery?, but not sure). Now, they do not taste the same as regular beer as they are made generally out of rice or sorguhm instead of barley. They...
  9. I just bought some gluten free waffles for the first time a month ago (after being diagnosed in March 2009). I purchased som Kellog's Eggo syrup. It was AWESOME! It says right on the bottle it's gluten free, too!
  10. I can't be 100% sure without seeing the ingredients for the rice noodles, but my guess would be the rice noodles. I think from what I've heard, Chex is actually making quite an effort to make sure no cross contamination occurs with their gluten free rice chex mix. I have had several boxes of that lately and have not had any issues (although I'm sure they...
  11. Hello! I don't know when your husband was diagnosed, but probably for the first two months after my diagnosis, I was EXHAUSTED every day. I am a big runner -- I love running 4-5 miles a day probably 5 or 6 days a week and following my diagnosis, I had a hard time getting the energy to even walk a mile. I think it had something to do with my body trying...
  12. Cherie - I completely understand where you are coming from and don't worry, you're not alone! I was diagnosed in March of this year and I'll be honest, my first month was really really rough! I can promise you that it does get better from there though! I actually just found this board too and I wish I would have found it sooner! It's always nice to...
