  2. I have what was diagnosed as a herniated muscle just under my lowest left rib. Don't know if its related but it makes it hard to to sit ups . If it gets moved the wrong way it will hurt for a week.
  3. I finally had gone to my regular doctor after having diarhea for about six months. Up several times a night. I was losing weight dramatically. She did some bloodwork (not for celiac) and my results were incredibly screwd up. I had very low calcium levels, anemia, skewed liver enzymes and very low protein levels. She sent me to a GI who started with a...
  4. One of the reasons that many more people don't get the flu is because the people who have been vaccinated are not spreading it around.
  5. I was the same way before finding out I had celiac. It was so bad my hands cramped into one shape and I could barely hold on to anything (I'm an optician so this was a HUGE problem.) Also, my feet were so big I couldn't wear my regular shoes. A few a the medical people I saw actually started to think I had a heart problem because of them. After going...
  6. I thought I was the only one who has developed a problem with alcohol since going gluten-free. I used to be able to drink my fair share and then some and only have a mild hangover. Now, forget it, I had a glass and a half of wine the other night and it felt like someone had dropped an anvil on my head the next day! I give up!
  7. The company I work for leases space in a Walmart- I'm there four - five days a week. I have yet to see any of their products labeled gluten-free. (I'm in upstate New York)
  8. I can't help you make a cake but I can tell you that some of the best cakes I've ever had have been gluten free. My mother made me a chocolate cake that had lentils in it-- I know that sounds weird but it was rich and fudgy and moist. Also, around the holidays I make a cake from Nigella Lawson that is made from clemantines and ground almonds. That...
  9. I know I'm a celiac because I laughed all the way through this thread. I have one ... You burst into tears because your friends go out of there way to prepare you a safe meal
  10. Lots of Irish and Italian. Also, a little German and English thrown in. I'm the only one diagnosed so far but I'm sure there are more! I had a similar experience. The "healthier" I ate the sicker I became.
  11. It's scary to see your mom suffer when you know what's wrong. It seems a lot of people here are familiar with not being taken seriously. How many times have we heard "It's al in your head." Good Luck
  12. I thought the better whiskeys were okay. Ihaven't tried any though, I'm happy with a margarita!
  13. Not all extracts are gluten free-try Mccormack,s. Also check your yogurt brand-not all are gluten-free.

    ARCHIVED Nuvaring

Ihave used the nuvaring for over a year and it is the easiest method for me. I have had no irritation and it's been perfectly unnoticeable. I had previously used bcp's and suffered with mood swings and pms. I have virtually no side effects to the nuvaring. I plan on keeping it for as long as necessary!
  15. Broccoli for me too! The weirdest thing though, is that before I went gluten free I hated -and I mean HATED broccoli. After started the gluten-free diet I had the biggest cravings for broccoli. I am now at the point where it is just a regular part of my diet.
  16. I remember when I was first diagnosed I was so relieved to find out that it was not "all in my head." This is by far the best place to start, the people here know far more than most Drs. do and they will always offer their support. This sites lists of gluten-free foods is also a great resource.
  17. My ancestry is mostly Irish and Italian but with a little English and German too. So far I've been the only diagnosed celiac but I suspect that there are a lot more.
  18. I used to have problems with asthma but I haven't used my inhaler since going gluten-free. It's been just about a year for me and the differences are amazing. It will be worth the effort! Good Luck!
  19. My tastebuds have changed dramatically since going gluten free. I used to not be able to be in the same room as broccoli and now I crave it. I also like beans more than I did before. I still love potatoes pretty much in any form thank God they're gluten-free!
