  1. hi myfathersaKING i struggle with reflux too. i have a hiatal hernia, which i believe is because my intestines swell and get hardened/damaged when i eat something i'm intolerant to and the top part of the stomach gets pushed up past the diaphragm. anyway u may or may not have that, but mine goes away when the rest of my GI system is calm for enough time...
  2. wow this is great thank you guys. i'm especially grateful for delettandtesteph's story because i hope to run distance again one day! i've lost so much weight and have pretty bad GERD issues right now, but i think i will do what you did and just go super strict and safe with my diet - it's so hard because i travel for a living but i think i'm just going to...
  3. wow that's a lot to deal with! i admire you you for being diligent with all the right tests. sometimes reading people's health struggles on here it seems like it goes from one thing to another. i'm not sure why the body does other things after going gluten-free?? do you think a lot of us are still getting microglutened? or does our immune system switch...
  4. janie- thanks!! i'm an hour north but sounds like it might be worth the drive as i can't find anyone in my area. part of me is so resistant to going to more doctor visits. it's so draining to have to explain everything and catch someone up, plus it adds to my schedule which i'm trying to clear out so i can HEAL. plus, i've gotten so much conflicting info...
  5. wow that's great and i hope the nightshades come back for you too! i'm trying to rotate things every 4 days - i was told that would help prevent more intolerances? but then if i do the SCD i'll have to eat the same stuff every day for a little while... what do you think
  6. ya and they could put that chicken powder flavoring stuff in it thinking it's just chicken but sometimes that stuff has wheat and they dont know - happened to me when i ate pho but yeah the rice noodles thing is a little scary cause they dont know if they supplier dusts them with wheat or not...
  7. ok no one answered me about the vigorous washing so i tried it - no good. unless i react to walnuts themselves but i think it was c.c. (they were diamond walnuts). buying in the shell next time!! but wouldn't that still be risky if they ran on a line with grains or anything? i guess i'll go with poindexter or somewhere that's gluten-free facility aaahhhh
  8. i've been gluten free and lots-of-other-things-free for 4 months. but i live at a hotel in asia at the moment and think i keep getting cross-contam'd. so i've decided to fly home early, move in with my folks and heal my tummy - i'm thinking SCD... anyway i'm looking for some people who've been on the diet for a long time and had success. or, someone who's...
  9. hi Wolicki who is your doc what did you go in for?? i've been going it alone for the past year besides an endoscopy (obviously couldn't do that myself) and a visit or two to some non-helpful GI's thanks!
  10. ni hao! i'm happy to read this post. i was diagnosed in aug and still wanted to keep my commitment to come to vietnam. unfortunately i've been sick a lot here and think it might be due to cross contamination issues with the restaurant (i live at a hotel). i've been making my own food this week, but still decided to go home early and heal my leaky gut in...
  11. i think those are common grains to become intolerant too, i'm glad to hear someone can have rice again - how did you swing that?? i've been gluten free for 3 months, but before that i discovered my nightshade intolerance first- about a year ago. since going off gluten, i've recently had to go off soy and dairy because of my enterolab results, eggs nuts...
  12. after removing gluten i kept a food diary and here is my intolerance list: gluten (duh) nightshades corn dairy rice!! as of this week! i'm so mad! anyway- and according to enterolabs, SOY. my calcium supplement has soy listed and i emailed the company, here's what they said: Thanks for your inquiry. We do not add soy to the product. However,...
  13. i just talked to the 5th cook about it- we've all been trying to figure it out- and he said if one of the cooks decided to put this dried up chicken flavoring stuff into the pho that they sometimes use then that probably contains wheat. so it was the meal i threw up directly after. i think.
  14. ok, i'm living at a hotel and the chef makes the same soup for me all the time - beef, rice noodle, safe spices. this time i threw up an hour or so after lunch. BUT last night i had an accidental bite of some undisclosed dressing (could have been safe but they didn't know what kind of vinegar was in it) with no immediate reaction. so, was today a delayed...
  15. i took a blood test for food intolerance and came up very high for cow and goat milk (and egg). should i try to make the yogurt? also i dont have a source for goats milk anywhere near where i live. can i make the yogurt with store-bought goat yogurt? or can you not re-yogurt yogurt... (i could get goat yogurt at trader joes)
  16. did you ask specifically if they had MSG?? also did they put fish sauce in the broth, usually they don't but there is ONE brand of cheap fish sauce that uses wheat, the rest are just fermented fish and salt i'm in vietnam right now for work and got the enterolab results email right when i got here. i'm pretty lucky to go gluten-free in this country...
  17. i have a possibly silly question: would a vigorous washing of the purchased nuts reduce the risk of cross contamination? thanks (ps please let me know of any companies that are nut-only facility and sell macadamia, pecan, or pine nuts as those are the only ones i can eat!)
  18. i emailed p and g about some hairspray (i know most hairspray has gluten because of the alcohol) and got a letter back that i'll paste below. i was less than satisfied with their effort so i wrote them back and will paste my response below that. did i give them correct info? i just wanted to get feedback if what i said was ok or not, i hope i represented...
