  1. I understand where you are coming from, I sometimes see things and wish I could have them one last time. Then I think even if I ate it again I'd still be thinking that I wish it wasn't the last time. I'm not even sure I could enjoy it because I'd be so miserable thinking about never having it again!

  2. I have gotten lots of those comments before. The weird thing is a really carry most of my weight in my hips and thighs so my waist is my smaller area! I used to bloat terrible when I ate gluten and one day I was doing a tax return and the receptionist came in to ask if I had gotten one of the donuts they were handing out...well the client decides to speak up and tell me that "donut aren't good for the baby". So I had to tell him I was NOT preggo. I had another incident at a museum where a lady was trying to get my husband to sign up for a membership and asked when we were due. But instead of just saying sorry and dropping it she kept saying over and over "are you sure you aren't pregnant? You look it, really you do". I wanted to die. I cried and cried.

My most recent insulting remark was when I saw an old friend out and as we were saying goodbye he said I look great to have just had a baby. My "baby" is 15!

  3. So far over the past 32 years I've never gotten poison ivy or oak. In fact when I was a child, as ploy to extend spring break my cousin and I rolled in it...I was fine, she was so miserable she would've liked to die! lol! I know I've been exposed to it many times because my husband and daughter get it all the time. Fingers crossed my immunity to it lasts!

  4. I have gastritis and sometimes if I eat something I shouldn't have or take too much Advil it will cause that to flare up and I'll get heartburn. It takes several days for the heartburn to go away. I would guess given the severity of your symptoms that the dairy irritated your entire GI tract and the heartburn is a lingering symptom. Definately tell your doctor how severe your reaction was!

  5. My immune system is so much better now that I'm not eating gluten. Last year I had the flu, mono, four bouts of strep throat, five outbreaks of shingles, a UTI, and several sinus infections. This year so far I have had one upper respiratory infection and the whole family caught it so I wasn't alone! Also twice my husband has caught a cold and I didn't. That never used to happen! So I think my immune system is about normal now!

  6. 90% of the time I am cool with being gluten free and just accept it. Every once in awhile (seems to be hormonal in my case) I freak out. I only crave gluten foods, I don't want to cook, everytime someone eats a cookie I feel like they've slapped me in the face, ect. I just get really depressed and throw quite the pity party! So I don't really have any groundbreaking advice, but I do know where you are at right now!

  7. I've tried to get my husband to see if he could be celiac because he occassionally has elevated liver enzymes, acid reflux, and D. He won't make an appointment but often says it would be a good idea to try the diet but then he never does.

I don't say much to my friends. I suggested to one friend that a gluten free diet was shown to help PCOS which she suffers from and she got very defensive and said gluten was my problem not hers. I leave her alone but I am very worried about her health. She has an extreme amount of abdominal fat and her blood pressure is very high. She takes handfuls of pills daily and she is only 25. She eats an insane number of carbs, usually gluten containing ones which is bad for her blood sugar issues as is.

  9. I am so sorry to hear about George! I can't imagine what you are going through. Thoughts and prayers to you!

Definately try the crackers and see what happens. If you have any sort of reaction I would stay with the gluten-free diet. My bloodwork was negative as well (my doctor didn't tell me I needed to be eating gluten at the time of the test!) and I know I have a serious issue with gluten so I avoid it.

  10. I used to see a doctor who could not accept that eating gluten free solved my problems. He said I was "taking the easy way out" and that I was probably reacting to fructose and not gluten. Well he ordered the fructose testing and none of the four labs in town had the solution to drink. They all said I would probably have to go to a pediatric hospital because the test isn't commonly given to adults. So I just said forget it, I was only humoring him as it was!

  11. Well yesterday I went to the allergy doctor because after I posted this topic my issues started getting stranger in that I was having tingling around my lips and gums and a strong metallic taste in my mouth after drinking coffee. Turns out I have developed a coffee allergy. I just thought I should update it so if anyone searched the forums they wouldn't be scared to drink coffee.

I still think the information about the mass packaging plants and home roasting was good advice!

  12. I was tested for a coffee allergy today actually. I've been having weird tingling in my lips and mouth when I drink it, turns out I did show a reaction. I'm in WV so maybe there is a difference between what they can test for here as opposed to KY.

  13. That teacher is a scary situation! I read a news article several years ago where a teacher gave a boy a cookie telling him it was okay after he told her he wasn't supposed to have it. He died as he was allegeric to peanuts. Luckily adults can ignore that kind of behavior but kids may honestly believe this teacher when she says a little bit won't hurt! They are authority figures to kids and kids trust them! Let's hope all her students are free of food allergies, which is unlikely in this day and age.
