  1. I'm not sure I'm posting this in the right section, but I have a quick question re: lactose intolerance. If you are just starting out in the gluten free experience, and should avoid dairy, does that mean you can't have lactose items at all? What about lactose free, like some milk and cheese? How about taking lactaid with items with lactose? I'm not sure I...
  2. Thank you for your responses. It's a bit...much, that's all. I went to a healthy grocery store who said they had a great big section of gluten free foods...only to find they had less than the local grocery store (Wegmans). I tried one of their gluten free muffins...blech! The Red Mill cake mix tastes much, much better. But I think I'm also having issue with...
  3. I know - that's a broad and extreme question. But as I read more and more about people's experiences with this issue, I'm wondering what on earth is left to enjoy when it comes to food? I'm evaluating every bite I take, every meal possibility, and I'm just baffled at this point. How on earth do you get a menu, and how do you make food for your family? I'm...
  4. I posted this in the wrong spot! Sorry!!
  5. This does sound awesome! I can't wait to try it, too! On a side note but still applicable, I drove by our local pizza joint, and they had a sign hanging outside their front door: Whole Wheat Pizza Gluten Free. I'm hoping it means that they have both, not that they think whole wheat pizza is gluten free!!
  6. Hmm, here's what happened to me in a different setting, so maybe this will shed some light. I went to a cookout with some friends, and we all provided items of food to share. I knew most of these people, but not the one girl's sister. As it worked out, the girl was vegetarian. Strictly vegetarian, bordering on Vegan. So guess what we all brought: egg salad...
  7. Yes, yes, I've figured the "no cheating" part out now that I've spent the day doing more research. It just stinks! If I'd have known my love affair with Oreos was going to end so abruptly, I would have downed a few more before this debacle! It's just such a change, and hard to accept that you can't be like "everyone else." I'm hoping, though, since...
  8. Wow - passionfruit - I get the same reaction when I have "too much bread." I just recently approached the gluten-free option after some serious embarrassment and I am tired of feeling "ick." But when I eat a lot of grains, especially pizza or bread, I get this really sick feeling in my stomach, and the feeling of a bubble in my throat that I can't swallow...
  9. Just a suggestion to maybe fix this for the next time: Suggest that everyone attach their recipe to their dish or set it nearby, so others can share recipes. It would allow you to see the ingredients and decide what is worth the risk, and make the idea sound fun and social instead of like a special interest. You'd be surprised how changing the wording can...
  10. I'm new to this world, and am researching some of my common, every day products to see if they contain gluten in any form. The foundation, veil and eye shadows that I'm partial to are Signature Minerals, and they are COMPLETELY organic, and their ingredient list is three to four items. That's not to say CCing can't occur, and I've emailed them to find out...
  11. Hello - I am new to this world of gluten-free, and terrified that it is unfortunately my digestive requirement. I have had many years of digestion problems, most of which I chalked up to a sensitive stomach, lactose intolerance, and food poisoning. Almost two years ago, a friend of mine almost died, only to discover what he had was celiac disease which had...
