  1. CGally - I got the papaya mixture because it has the enzymes in it that many told me help with digestion. I don't know if there is something out there to avoid all symptoms...otherwise, could we just eat wheat them? But I didn't feel bad on the pill, and it's very chewable and tastes decent...I'll let you know after I've used it for a week.
  2. Roda - you'll get there! And believe me - have cookies! That is the fun of the holidays. I scrimp on a meal here or there, and gorge on the good stuff. Ok, bad for me stuff, but awfully yummy. Have a good holiday - and enjoy it without guilt.
  3. Sometimes an accountability buddy can help. My best friend and I were not accountability partners per se, but she lost 80 lbs. over the least two years, and has been eating a lot healthier...so it just was normal for me to do it, too. I also journal my food (even more so now with the gluten issue and other intolerances, to keep up with anything that could...
  4. I can't promise you that they work just yet, but I just bought the chewable Super Papaya Enzyme Plus, and they taste good and so far (two days) I feel awesome on them. Worth checking out?
  5. I'm jonesing for some pork fried rice, with sprouts, white onion, and pork...however, there's a reason I always bought it! I don't have the first clue how to make it. Any ideas?
  6. Wow. Quasior - I'm so sorry to hear you are having all these issues. And you are right - you are scared for your kids and their health, and your S.O. isn't sympathetic at all, it seems. Just a couple of thoughts, from someone who has a psych degree and husband...which qualifies me to give crockpot advice for $0.05 per session! 1. If it is truly a budgeting...
  7. If it's any comfort - a friend of mine was 65, and ended up in the hospital with similar issues. He almost died. They discovered it was celiac, put him on the a gluten free diet (I think his was liquid in the beginning, too) and he's back to traveling all over the world 80% of the year for his job for the past year, now 67 years old. He's who convinced me...
  8. I just did a really yummy veggie dip. I'm dairy intolerant, so I picked up some tofutti "better than sour cream," added a ranch dressing packet, and voila - chip and veggie dip that tastes just like it should. super yummy.
  9. Amen, mushroom. Many in my family have severe GI problems, and I grew up with them. Since going gluten free, I feel amazing, and it's not worth it to me to worry about it further. I'm certainly not going to go back to feeling awful and publicly embarrassed simply to get a test to confirm what my body has already told me.
  10. Hey gang - thank you so much for your thoughts! Purple: that's what I want to try - but do I need to add extra xanthan gum for it? (The darn stuff is 12 bucks at the local store, so I'm trying to figure out if I want it that badly!) TS flour already has it in there. Also, should I do half and half? It's really makes a good cookie...and the grit doesn't...
  11. Natascha - good question! I've wondered the same thing. I went through all the tests about five years ago, and they could find nothing...so the answer was clearly to remove my gall bladder. I questioned the surgeon before the surgery, and he said I had a 70% chance that it was the issue...but it could just be IBS! So I declined the surgery, as he said there...
  12. Which kinnikinnick mix? I see an all purpose and a bread and bun mix, along with a cake mix on (Company Name Removed - They Spammed This Forum and are Banned).
  13. I made chocolate chip cookies with Tom Sawyers flour mix, and they came out quite yummy...a little gritty, but I didn't notice it once they were cool. However, there are some other cookies I would like to make: like sugar cookies, that would probably be noticeably gritty with just Tom Sawyers. Several people have recommended cutting it with Sorghum flour...
  14. Just substitute the flour and baking powder for gluten free options and see what happens.
  15. I feel you! I've been doing this for three weeks or so, and I didn't feel better at all the first week. But then I cut out dairy and nuts, and let me tell you - I felt great! I screwed it up the last two days with dairy: misery. I can't get over how much better I feel when I'm not eating gluten or dairy. Just give it some time. It feels amazing once you figure...
  16. I got news for ya, jackay - if you are cooking, he's not eating gluten! You know, my husband IS supportive, but only because he doesn't understand it. However I've made some awesome meals the last few weeks, and he doesn't know what is in them. Give him some time to adjust - let him have his snacks and his things in one area, and make your own space,...
  17. Wildwood - thanks for the suggestion of angelfood ministries. I used to buy from them over summer to feed the kids while they are home. I just assumed that was out. Jackay - I feel your pain. May I suggest...I got a biggest loser cookbook, a gluten free cookbook, and a low carb cookbook, all of which have few ingredients for meals. (The Gluten free is...
  18. Hang in there. I've been doing it three weeks, and I assure you...it's worth it. I feel amazing, and I'm eating better than ever. Be patient with yourself, and take your time when you shop. Go when you can relax, check your foodlists in peace, and slowly get used to a new side of the store: the healthy side. And you might have other food issues - I do - to...
  19. Good ol' Tollhouse, and I used Tom Sawyers blend, but I think anything that you have on hand might work. I made it according to the recipe, and just changed out the flour and used crisco bars instead of butter (I'm dairy intolerant). They are AWESOME. I'm told if you cut the rice/tapioca flour with sweet sorghum flour it cuts back on the gritty finish, but...
  20. I had a severe reaction immediately after ingesting their products. So yes, I agree - definitely something in those meals!
  21. Many years ago, there was a snow emergency here in PA, and we could not leave our homes. As it worked out, I was visiting a friend at her parent's house, and her parents were restaurant warriors, preferring never to cook if they could avoid it. After two days, we ate through the small amount of food in the house, and we were left with Spam. It was purchased...
  22. Since cutting out gluten, dairy, and nuts, I've noticed my body doesn't make noises. Besides the obvious ones (insert flatulence joke here), my stomach is quiet after I eat. No gurgles or rumbles. I feel like I went from a 1959 Chevy to a post-modern Lexus engine! I also noticed my inside feel...well, flatter. I always felt a bit round when I sat, like...
  23. Ravenwoodglass - thank you! I just started shopping at our Wegman's regularly, and I didn't know that! That's awesome! CecilyF - a friend of mine who also has celiac just said the same thing. This life of gluten free is an adventure, so it's going to have upside and downsides. Enjoy the ride.
  24. Yep - I eat chocolate every day too. I like the Lindt 73% (I think that is the percentage - it's an odd number), and Wegman's 70% is pretty good. But I only have two squares. I read some years ago that a sweet at the end of the meal marks the end of it in the brain...maybe that is just conditioning for this culture, but I'm not arguing! I just had a...
  25. You will do it! You have a great attitude, and you are willing to modify your behavior and habits - that is half the battle. My girlfriend just lost 80 lbs, and everyone we know asks, "How did you do it?" or "What did you use?" She said to me one day, "I have no idea what to tell people." And I told her to tell them the truth. Her secret: eat less, move more...
